I visited the show lounge in the Americana Hotel in Guadalajara, Mexico earlier this year. This hotel in on San Lopez Mateus strret, in the richer district of town. After being seated in a comfortable booth, I ordered a cold Pacifico for 30 pesos, which is reasonable enough.
Minutes later a young lady was brought to my table by the bouncer, and I was told that she spoke English and I should buy her a drink. She was friendly enough, but her looks were about 5 on a scale of 10. She proceeded to drink rum and cokes at the rate of one drink per 5 minutes, at 90 pesos per drink. Ouch.
Meanwhile, an older gentleman was conversing with another young lady that rated much higher the woman at my side, but my "companion" told me that she only goes with guys that speak the lingo. Oh well.
Three drinks later she informed me that she would join me back at my hotel for 2,000 pesos for 2 hours of company. That's nearly $200 per hour for mediocre company. I said no thanks, paid the bill, and left.
I came back for a solo drink later that week, just to catch some live music. This time they charged me a 100 peso cover fee, since I wasn't buying any lady drinks.
