I used holidaycity.com to arrange my stay in Melbourne at the 3 star Kingsgate Hotel. I was only staying 2 days so I just looked for an inexpensive place that was centrally located. I also chose the Kingsgate because of it's proximity to the Spencer Street station.

The rate I received was 69 AUD ($51 USD) per night for a bare bones single without a bathroom. The community bathroom was located down the hall.

Since I was only a few blocks from the train station and had light luggage, I walked. The cost from the airport to the train station was 13 AUD ($10 USD) for the Skybus.
