PART 5: MISCELLANEOUS & SUMMARY
Civilian girls just have a totally different mindset than our gringa countrywomen here. On the flight down, I sat with a 23 year old Peruana; she practiced her English and I butchered some Spanish. We hit it off, and it was all that I could do not to ask her out. The signals were clearly there. I had just finished dating a 23-year-old and I wasn’t looking to get involved with another one, but it was a total no-brainer.
One of my American friends that I met up with and shared a lunch commented to me (he was at the end of his visit) that he thought that he heard ‘more’ English spoken this trip than on previous visits. He wanted to know my impressions. I’m not sure, because I spent more time in Miraflores than I normally do, but he may be right… I’m going to have to pay more attention on my next trip.
As usual, I came home with some prescription drugs this trip. I picked up some antibiotics (tetracycline and cipro), as well as some sildenafil. For some reason, I got a prescription lecture from the lady at the drug store on the tetracycline. My least favorite part of shopping at these stores is trying to get the cheap stuff. Historically, anything I ask for is responded with the name brand first, then I have to say, “no… generic… cheaper” three times until I get the cheap stuff. Well, this time, the B&S chain of drugstores had a computer for customers to use, where you could figure out WHICH of the twenty choices you want before you speak to the clerk… you just tell her the item number and how many, and there you are. It was a pleasure for me, but I didn’t see anyone else using them.
Manicures are cheap in Lima. I usually pay between eight and 10 soles, and they can be had for as low as five in Lince. If you are interested in hitting on regular girls, the manicuristas are ripe for the taking. By definition, they don’t have much money, so a nice dinner somewhere sounds very attractive, and you’ve had a half hour or so to win them over with your charms. If you’re looking for a date, this is a sector that’s worth looking at further.
One other fertile ground for the civilian hunter could very well be the drink girls at the casinos. For the most part, they’re young, pretty, and once again – don’t make much money. There was one night, I was sitting at a slot machine, and the same pretty girl served me a lot of times. I always thanked her with “Gracias.” One time, I said, “Thank you, er, I mean gracias.” Her panties just about dropped right to the floor, as she was standing there. It was like I took off the mask, and she discovered I was Brad Pitt. It was a couple of days before going home time, so I didn’t follow up. But it would have been a slam-dunk.
On my last night, after Angela left, I headed back to the Hacienda. I was sitting at a blackjack table, when who walks in, with another girl and two boys, but Andrea from the night before (a Kassandra Agency girl). She looked at me with (in rapid order) big surprise, horror that I would give her up to her friends, and then, relaxation when she realized that I wasn’t going to say anything. Of course, her date decided to sit at my table. After that, I flirted shamelessly with her, pissing the guy off to no end.
SUMMARY
I did not spend a lot of money this trip, for many reasons. Not having a girlfriend cut the cost of eating in restaurants in half, and I didn’t have to entertain her. I only saw five girls on this trip, two of them cheap outcalls. And last, I won a little at the blackjack tables and slot machines, and only wound up losing $43 betting on the basketball games… that took up a lot of time and was virtually free, so my entertainment budget was lower than normal.
When I left Miami, I had US$2,700, plus $550 in soles, for a total of $3,250. Back at home, I did an inventory, and I had US$1,733, plus $465 in soles, for a total $2,198. Surprisingly, I only spent $1,052 in the 8 (or 6, depending on how you look at it) days, plus airfare and housing costs. The exchange rate held steady at 2.76 (2.78 in the casinos) the entire week.
I stayed out late every night, never getting home before 1:30, and some nights, as late as 3:00. I’m getting a little old to be running around that late, especially considering that I would spend some time in the morning working. It seems that the concept of blackout curtains has not reached many places in Lima… that’s the one selling point of some hotels.
Did I have fun? Sure I did. Was it a little weird being on my own, and not having to rush home at 5:30 to meet my girlfriend when she got out of work? Sure it was. Was I able to acclimate myself to the new, single, circumstances? Of course. Am I going back? Fuck, yeah.
