I guess this is a trip report!

The Background.-- This is my penultimate (or possibly anti penultimate) trip to Medellin. With any luck at all, next one is one way south. I have been coming here since 2004, and enhanced my first passionate love affair with Colombia and Medellin.

I am on a 6 month trip, the purpose of which was to get to know some of the other countries in South America, and make sure this is where I where I want to be. I have visited Ecuador and Peru, where I was fortunate enough to hook up with the legendary RTGouch, epicurean extraordinaire and generally nice guy . My eternal thanks to him for showing me the ropes in Peru. I am back in Medellin for the next two months. I will try to keep this updated as a kind of blog.

The City and its People.-- Much has been written about Medellin and los paisas. I can only add that it is all true, and include a few notes from my personal observations. The Valley of Aburra is a place where climate, history, and genetics have come together to create some of the most beautiful women in the world.

Las Paisas.-- The genetic pool has coalesced to produce a valley full of large breasted women with killer figures and great, substantial asses, lovely faces, white teeth, and killer smiles. If your ideal lady is an tiny spinner without these features, you would be well advised to look elsewhere. The range in color from pale European to absolute black. One lady I met last trip was not even slightly brown. Most are varying shades of brown, with dark, straight hair. They tend to stay beautiful well beyond their 30's. They live in a warm climate, which places a premium on dressing to keep cool. Not sure if it is genes or culture, but they love showing off their bodies.

My experience in North America is that a good looking woman tends to discourage any appreciation of here physical attributes. Here, if one is caught staring (drooling ?) at a young lovely, he is likely to get a smile saying “Yes, I am lovely, don't you love it!” They tend to wear blouses which keep the tops of their well filled brasseries exposed. This makes sitting next to one of them on a bus, and watching the competing forces of gravity and inertia interact as the bus jolts down the street quite a treat. What a way to teach wave mechanics to high school students! (at least the male half). Walking down the street can also be wonderful fun.

Los Paisas.-- Fortunately for us, a goodly percentage of them are macho assholes. They refuse to acknowledge their children, and leave poorly educated mothers on their own.

Today, I found my ideal apartment in Laureles, next to the park. Neighborhood is great, with good restaurants, shops, bakeries, etc next door. It is only a few blocks to a really great supermarket, has a great view, etc. It is about a 10 minute walk from Energy (CH Link), my all time favorite. Just before going to look at the apartment, I had treated myself to an hour with a beautiful, intelligent, and passionate lady (Danella) at Energy, so I was very mellow.

After I had looked at the apartment, and decided to rent it, I walked out the front door, and walked 20 meters, and there, to my wondering eyes, was a number 180 bus, henceforth to be known as the magic bus. Ten minutes after boarding, I was on Carrera 45 (ave Sucre), surrounded by brothels. I tend to like to hobby in the afternoon or evening, as I am usually studying in the evening, so I feel like I won the lottery.

I will try to keep this up to date, and I plan to update the Central Casas Google map, if I can figure out how to save a copy and edit it. I know a number of places have closed, and a number of new places have opened.

Hey Sandy, how much does the apartment rent for? Is it close to the metro station? I walked around looking at some of the hotels in this area in late May. The Lincoln impressed me the most, maybe for my next trip. This site can be helpful if anyone else is so inclined. http://www.hoteleslaurelesestadio.com/
Madonna will be in concert in the area at the end of November.

CUP 1.500.000 for the apartment. It is a few blocks over from La Setenta, so is about 8 blocks from the Metro (I use the metro a lot). I like the Lincoln a lot, mostly for the staff, but a room on the street is hugely noisy. There is a sports court across the street that is used pretty late at night, and a lot of clubs with way loud music nearby. My last stay (Last Saturday night), there was a chiva parked outside, running music until about 4. I am currently in the Casa Blanca for one night till I get the apt., which I walked by last trip. Not as nice a room, but quiet.

With so much Paisa talent, I will pass on Madonna!

How did you find the apartment for rent? So that's about 50K a night? Do you have to share or the whole apartment is yours? How much for maid service? It is certainly an effective way to go for long trips.

I only mentioned Madonna because if you had tickets you could probably score with any non-pro you'd want plus the area will be jumping with after-parties with possibly lots of sexy chicas borrachas!

About the Lincoln, there are no rooms on an upper floor facing away from the avenue that is less noisy?

I don't think thats such a great deal especially being near the estadio and la 70. It get extremely rowdy around that area after Nacional games, especially when they lose the young punks are looking for fight and would love to fuck with a gringo.

I have a lady who rents me a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath in poblado for 100k a night or 2 mil for the month, all the usual building amenities included. Pool, gym etc etc

I got this by asking porteros of random buildings if they know of anybody in the building who rents apartments. Then they will usually walk me over to the building bulletin board with that particular buildings classified adds on it and I would write down any numbers I saw.

I don't know if all of these buildings will accommodate gringos though. Even though I'm American I don't look gringo and I speak fluent Spanish. It's purely the luck of the draw.

I know there are plenty of beautiful women in Colombia. I've visited Cali and Bogota. I've seen it with my own two eyes on the street and in the bars.

Funny thing though, generally the pictures posted from Medellin on the CH board don't do a lot for me, as compared to other locales.

I never like to slam anybody for posting pictures of what I consider ugly chicks, although I have to hold back sometimes. It's just strange how lately the pix that have been posted from Medellin not so hot...

The rooms not on the street are on the air shaft. This is an opening covered by a roof to keep the rain out, but open for ventilation, which runs from the roof to the lobby. Unfortunately, it takes in the dining room and kitchen, which open pretty early. The staff tend to turn on a TV or radio at normal Colombia volume (as loud as it will go). If you are an early riser, great, no problem.

Sobe9ball.

I am glad that you like El Poblado. I don't. It is my experience that the football crowd gets turned back toward la setenta pretty quickly, and I have never had a problem. Your apartment is much larger than I want or need, and you are paying $250/month more than I am, which is a factor currently. There are many El Poblado apartments available for this price, just google Apartment in Medellin. Moreover, you are talking about a deal which is not available to the average member of this board. My impression is that we are about sharing our experiences to help others out in their adventures. Therefore, comments like "I went to a private casa" are outside the spirit of the board. Moreover, my post is about my tastes, and things that I like to do.

Your posts are about YOU and things YOU like to do? Then why don't start your very own blog where you can write about your philanthropic ways.
Then you wont have to worry about replies in the general MDE forum? People will be forced to comment all the way at the bottom of your blog. Granted you enable that function. Lol

Quilombo - Agreed, been awhile since I've seen anything compelling in the Latin TR's.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed members posting in the Trip Report section when the content is irrelevant? Sandy, while we’re all happy you had a good day and this post is slightly informative however you guessed wrong, these are topics, renting in Columbia and bus routes. TR's of significance cover mongering, contain club or bar details, pricing and lots of sexy photos of all those hot gals you're touting.

Here's where you should have posted. ClubHombre.com: South America: Colombia: Advice/Questions/Commentary

With all due respect, whom else am I going to write about? If you like, send me your password, and I will post about you and your friends. Else, I will write about what I am doing, and my friends!

No intention in starting a flame war, but the idea is to pass on info.

RT, thanks again for your help! It was an awesome lunch!
