Camaro in Mao Synopsis November 2014
Gentleman I have just completed my most recent excursion throughout the Dominican Republic. This trip will include separate synopsis reports on Mao, La Romana & Puerto Plata, although I made 2 day trips to Santiago I have nothing new to report there.
The aforementioned reports will include anecdotes and my observations of the conditions and activities on the ground of each of the locations. This trip includes 5 days in Sosua, 2 days in Mao, 2 days in La Romana and closes with 3 days in Sosua.
Below I have listed my notes on Mao for your review.
Camaro es un pensianado
I approached this trip with a different mentality because I am retired after 29 years of working in the same place and now I am ready for the next phase of life. The north coast continues to be my number one pick for a retirement destination; it is in an area close to an international airport, fine beaches, and an affordable cost of living. It is a community with enough Americans that I can speak English and share our culture, but it is Dominican enough for me to enjoy the Dominican experience also.
Although I prefer the north coast as a place to live in retirement the interior of the Island has much to offer in terms of experiencing life and culture in the Dominican Republic therefore an excursion to Mao is right up my alley.
Beyond Sosua
Going to Sosua and saying you have been to the Dominican Republic is on a much smaller scale like going to Las Vegas and saying you have been to the United States. I have not travelled the entire Dominican Republic but from what I have seen there is no place on the Island like it not even Boca Chica can compare; I know this not because I read it somewhere but because I have experienced it. Mongers are different with different objectives but for those who want more than point and click should consider their alternatives.
It is my intention to continue to travel the Island and have new and different experiences.
Mao
One of the goals of this trip was to visit Mao & Esperanza below I have listed a few facts about both locations.
Mao is the largest city in the northwestern part of the Dominican Republic and the capital city of Valverde Province. It gets its name from the River Mao which runs near the city. The city has a population of approximately 60,000 people and traveling north-west is about 40 minutes from Santiago. Although it is a very dry region in comparison to the rest of the country it remains an agricultural based economy with rice bananas and plantains.
Esperanza
Esperanza is a small city in the Valverde Province that is about 10 miles north east of Mao. The city has a population of approximately 40,000 people.
Enroute to Mao
A group of mongers rented a car and made the 2 hour trek from Sosua-Puerto Plata to Mao. The original intention of the Mao segment of this trip was to spend time in both Mao and Esperanza. Esperanza is a smaller town right outside Mao and is considered to be dangerous with a wild-wild west reputation. It is notable for its myriad of PFP venues however we did not make it Esperanza and spend all of our time in Mao.
Hotel La Linea
Originally I was going to stay in Mao’s premier hotel, Hotel Novus but it was about $75.00 a night and Hotel La Linea was 1000DOP per night. In addition it was convenient since other mongers were staying in the same hotel so I thought oh well might as well.
Hotel La Linea reminded me of Hotel Aquarius in Bonao because it was located on a major street with the typical street noise and it had a bar attached to the hotel. Linea Café was a small bar attached to the hotel where locals would gather to drink; it had a very chill atmosphere.
The rooms were very basic with no luxuries. I did not check the WIFI because my computer was down but WIFI was available with strong air-conditioning. My room was basic with a bed desk and TV. My first night I only had 1 towel which was inconvenient I will address that issue later.
Although Hotel La Linea was very basic it was comfortable and the staff was very cordial and friendly.
Prospero Cambio
I used Prospero Cambio to get change which was located downtown right across the street from the Carribe Tours bus station. I got 44DOP-1US exchange rate the best in the Dominican Republic at the time, even better than Western Union. It is reported that Carribe Tours also offers a 44DOP-1US exchange rate.
Aqua Azul
Aqua Azul is one of the social centers of Mao. Different groups of people gather there on a regular basis from children to teenagers to adults all enjoy the activities offered there. It is a pool, amphitheater with dance floor stage and restaurant.
We spent time at the pool hanging out and eating. This is where I originally met Ms. Mao and we would later meet again.
Rio Mao or Rio La Presa
Rio Mao is a major river about 40 minutes outside Mao it is a social gathering place for swimming and there is a ranch where you can stay overnight or grill out and hang.
Ms. Mao part 1
I met Ms. Mao my first afternoon at Agua Azul. In my opinion she had one of the tightest bodies in the pool her hips to waist ratio was almost perfect she looked absolutely incredible in a bathing suit.
We chit chatted at the pool and she was very polite and cordial but I couldn’t tell if she liked me. She left with some friends without me getting her number. Later that night we had a get together at the parada de gua gua that was close to Parque Central. Tgunz knew someone who was acquainted with her so he called her and she came over. We talked and once again she was polite but I couldn’t tell if she was interested.
I pulled her away from the crowd had a heart to heart talk and we agreed to spend some time together. We arrived at the hotel and there was only 1 towel so she showered first then I followed. Let me say this chica is nobodies pro! She was nervous and everything went slow. It took me almost 30 minutes to get her engine started but once she got going I enjoyed myself. She began giving it back to me strong and we had good rhythm together.
Ms. Mao part 2
I saw her again my last night and although the sex was okay although it was much better the first night. I plan to return to Mao sometime in the future but frankly I do not know if I would repeat. She is a young 19 year old who is very inexperienced and not accustomed to gringos. In addition we didn’t communicate well because I could hardly understand anything she said.
Do I cultivate a sweet young thing who knows little about life and sex or do I find a more mature woman who I can talk with go to dinner with and have a more balanced relationship with?????
She did whatsapp me after she knew I left Mao sending me saludos so I have no idea what that means therefore when I return to Mao I will decide what to do with her at that time.
Age disparity in Dominican Relationships
My experience with Ms. Mao has caused me to reflect once again on age disparity relationships. I have yet to become accustomed to the acceptance of age disparity relationships which is often considered to be unacceptable in the US. When I was in Bonao I met the family of my date there and I was older than her parents however I was accepted and treated with respect.
Ms. Mao likewise was young enough to be my granddaughter but open to a relationship with me. I have to be careful not to create artificial boundaries and to bring my unwarranted cultural values to the Dominican Republic.
IMHO it’s best to start at 21 and move forward from there. I know I will receive the side eye from many mongers but I am leaning heavily towards women in their late 20’s and early 30’s as I seem to have more in common and a greater connection with them. For you guys who don’t do mature women I will say don’t sleep on Dominican women in their 30’s I have seen some that are absolutely beautiful and carry themselves with excellence and grace.
Mao Sex Venues
Mao is the typical Dominican town with sex venues like car washes, and bars that double as sex venues along with casas de citas. These venues in Mao are primarily for locals and I would not recommend tourist visit these venues solo unless they are confident in their Spanish and understanding of Dominican culture.
Below I have listed the following venues:
• El Bosque Calle 27
El Bosque is a “Drink” which is a pseudo bar with dance floor music, tables ect. but the waitresses and some of the women in attendance are available for take out. In this case you pay the house 400DOP for salida and negotiate with the chica individually for services.
This venue was unique because once you walked inside there was a space inside the venue for motos a bar dance floor and tables. None of the talent was more than a 6.
• El Malecon Bar Calle Sierra
El Malecaon Bar was a different type of casa de cita, there was a bar with tables and the chicas wondering around and talking with their clients. In the rear of the bar there was a separate building with rooms. The chicas went for 800DOP and the room went for 150DOP. I did not sample so I cannot speak to the quality of the rooms or if they offered take out.
I did see some 7’s and I was surprised because the joint was definitely a hole in the wall.
• El Drunko Car Wash Calle Benito Mansion
El Drunko Car Wash had live entertainment the night I visited and since they wanted a cover and I wasn’t tasting I decided not to go in therefore I can offer no details on this venue.
Mao’s sex venues do not have the best of Dominican talent, however if you look hard enough it is possible to find something that is palatable. It is reported that the best sex venues are in Esperanza which is the next town east of Mao; I was only in the area for 2 days so I did not get a chance to sample any of what Esperanza had to offer.
Mao closing thoughts
I had a great time in Mao and I especially enjoyed the vista view of the country side to include the mountains and Rio Mao. Below I listed my other thoughts about Mao:
• My visit to Mao came after my last visit to Bonao, the cities have some similarities in appearance but their personalities are different. Basically Bonao is a little larger in terms of population and geography but more importantly Bonao is more of a lively community with more night life and sex venues than Mao.
• Mao like Bonao represents what I would call the interior of the Dominican Republic. This is a place for those who desire true Dominican culture. Mao is not a tourist town like Sosua. Mao is not a big city like Santo Domingo or Santiago. Mao is a small Dominican town where Spanish is absolutely necessary and the presence of gringos is the exception to the rule.
• The people of Mao in general are not accustomed to seeing gringos so you will get stares of curiosity however at no time did I sense hostility fear or a sense that I was not welcome.
• Mao is not the monger’s paradise if all he desires to do is bounce around to different sex venues; however there are beautiful women in Mao just like any other Dominican town they just have to be searched out.
Conclusion
Mao is a laid back place where you can take your time and nobody is in a rush. I found the people of Mao to be curious but polite and respectful. IMHO Mao is not a place to go looking for PFP however there are many beautiful women in Mao who are looking for someone willing to help them go through school or with their children. Of course there are many women in Mao who are open to traditional relationships.
Sometime in the future I plan to return to Mao however I will be in date mode more so than monger mode because I believe that Mao is more enjoyable with a special someone than on the hunt as a monger would be in Sosua.
Finally, I recommend Mao for anybody who enjoys life and culture in the Dominican Republic.

I really enjoy your write-ups as you take the time to go of the beaten path, which I also like to do in my travels. Keep on doing what you're doing...
