Duterte's iron-fisted rule is showing. He's from Davao, where everything is strict --spit on the sidewalk and the cops beat your ass. (Kidding. It's not really that strict.) But (for instance) you don't see street urchins around Manila anymore. (Duterte probably barbecued them.)

For the record, it's the worst selection that I've ever seen here. Pathetic flabby single moms shaking their "love handles." Didn't see even one in all of the clubs that I would sleep with for free.

Went into Dimples (CH Link). Customer drinks are PHP 160, lady drinks are PHP 390 (!!), bar fine PHP 3900!! WHAT!?!? Out of the question!

All the hookers --street-walkers and club dancers alike-- are super-aggressive right now, which hints as to how little attention they would get on looks alone. They crowd you and paw on you. I went to one of the mid-eastern restaurants for my first taste of falafels and hummus in a year. It was early enough (around 5 p.m.) that I easily got a booth right on the street. No sooner had they given me a menu than a street-walker brazenly plopped herself down in my booth, right across from me! I did not find her attractive in any way so I did my best to ignore her. She apparently had some business there because a restaurant employee brought her some pesos. But she stuck around and kept trying to chat me up. I was squirming and started to move to another table when she said "OK" and left.

There are still plenty of masseuses and free-lancers around; they are in full-force starting around 8:30 p.m. Most of them are now wearing street clothes instead of those clinical-looking nurse outfits. PHP 500 for a one-hour massage + whatever you can negotiate for extra services. Selection (quality) is down here also.

I didn't waste any time on this trip fighting traffic out to the EDSA complex, figuring it would be more of the same.

Bottom line: if you're heading to the PI and are entertaining thoughts of checking out Makati before heading out to your destination, I'd pass. If you're in Makati anyway, maybe try picking up at the Greenbelt mall?


Miscellaneous Medical Trivia

Got treated for the clap here, as soon as it appeared, after catching it on a run down to Pattaya days earlier. Sancho was right: here in the PI they automatically (without analysis of your goo) give you Zithromax for chlamydia (along with the Rocephin shot for the clap). (And Cipro is only effective against tummy-bugs in these parts.) But screw these details! Don't self-doctor; just get into a hospital immediately if you wake up with white or yellow "lotion" (pus) coming out of your dick. Get in there that very morning before you get a stricture! Don't f*** around with the clap; always treat it as an emergency.

The only time I'd stick my nose in the doctor's business is if the doctor wanted to inject less than the full ampule of Rocephin. (I think the smallest size is 500 mg and the recommended "book" dosage is 250 mg.) Every time I ever caught the clap in Thailand they just gave me the whole ampule --the old "cement bomb" trick --WHAM! But this doctor in the PI intended to give me just the "book" dosage, so I had to coax her into giving me the whole thing. She acquiesced after saying that that would still be a safe dosage.

Try to save one or more mongers (and girls!) by calling the girl who gave the infection to you and handing your phone to the nurse to clearly explain the situation to her in her own language.

In response to a private message, "clap" is slang for gonorrhea. Sorry for the omission!

And no, I was not comfortable seeking medical treatment in the Philippines, but I had no choice. Once again, I regard gonorrhea as a medical emergency. I was down south and looking at two plane rides with a stopover in MNL to get home (Bangkok). As it turns out, they had a generic for Rocephin. Thank God.

And I don't mean to scare anyone, but next time you see your urologist ask him what a "stricture" is and what the treatment for it is. It will change you.

did you visit kojax ? i enjoyed that place but my visit was over a year ago. my manila based friend claims it still has the best looking gals. i'm planning a visit in late january and got an update from him via email a few weeks ago.

one negative on december visits is the girls go to home province to spend time with family. as i'm sure you know, even the 'best' bars aren't full of hotties so a loss of 2-3 hotties can make the place devoid of anything worth looking at. and i think the girls leave early in the month.
