I first came to Rio in 2004. (See my reports.) It was an unforgettable experience, so much superior to San Jose or Cali where I had visited prior. For the next five years I visited often, including two summers for 3 months each and another longer stay of 5 months. I was speaking Portuguese pretty well and felt at home. After 2010, my trips slowed and eventually trailed off after 2012. Now I'm back, and I must admit, it's not the same. I've seen a couple garotas off Photo Acompanhente and they were very nice. I realize the methodology for meeting girls has gone digital, and that's fine. In some ways, perhaps it's easier.
What's the one change that has made the biggest difference? The dissolution of the club Help. For those who may not have experienced it, it was a large disco that attracted girls from the whole country, all looking to hook up with guys who had money. Simple concept, but it was magic. I remember going to Dulce Vida in Cartagena during that period and thinking, "This is no Help." It wasn't only a draw for some of the most alluring girls, or a place where scoring with a sexy girl wasn't in question, but an incubator of 18-plus y.o. talent that churned out beauty and hot sexy women, year, after year, after year. To be sure, there were plenty of 5's and 6's all about. But with a little effort, 7's, 8's and 9's were always on the menu. In addition, the club acted as a distributer to all the bars and clubs, shoe stores, and area beaches, so that walking down Nossa Senhora was not just a method of getting from point A to B. It was an adventure. You never knew who you might run into. The club also had an influence on non-working girls who were curious. I met more than one girl who didn't frequent Help, but wound up fucking my brains out anyway, often not asking for money - though I always offered. And now? Let's just say the tourist board or whomever was responsible for tearing down Help is happy. The museum which took its place is an eye sore in my view. And over the past week walking Copa and Ipanema, I can report not one garota de programa on the streets or beaches. Zero. In fairness, I haven't frequented a boite yet, though I'm not even that motivated to do so.
I have some time left. I'll hit a massage place, call a few more girls online, and maybe even scour the escort sites. I'll hit a club or two. But it's not the same. The spontaneity is not what it was, the deluge of phenomenal girls, nation-wide, is absent. Rio is not the splendorous place I remember.
And that's a crying shame...

Escort sites are a total waste. If you want to find freelancers use https://www.photoacompanhantes.com/acompanhantes/rio-de-janeiro/capital

Help is a loss, but I'm not sure I agree that it was an incubator for girls who worked the bars and termas. Most of the Help girls were from the nearby favelas and hooked out of Help because they didn't want the regular hours at the clubs.
I may be a minority voice here, but my sense is there are as many girls working as there's ever been, and plenty of very hot girls, but the vast majority are either freelancers who advertise on the internet or work out of smaller places, mainly in Centro. This makes them less visible for sure, and there is less spontaneity. But if you want spontaneity, the termas are still a good bet. Solarium, 4X4 and Cancun all offer plenty of choices and a party atmosphere.
