BOTTOM LINE: No action. BYO girls.

...also bring SPF 90 sunscreen (unless you can find any stronger), sunglasses, your scuba dive log book, and maybe a cattle prod to get through the crowds here. There are no motor vehicles here except boats; one walks everywhere.

The Pee Pee Islands are a beautiful tropical paradise with white sand beaches. Some of the locals are tanned as black as coal, as in the Caribbean. Pee Pee Don is where you stay and Pee Pee Lay is smaller with no lodging. Some maps spell it "Phi Phi," but I prefer the other spelling due to my adopted maturity level. Since the Thai word for island is "Ko" or "Go," this place is called "Go Pee Pee." :^) [Aside to Khun Mor: the word is spelled with the Thai consonant GAW-guy, rather than KAW-khai. So it's GO PEE PEE! :^)

I couldn't even pick up a radio station here.

I spied one lass sitting next to me at one of the rip-off Internet cafes crowding the island, crammed between dive shops and massage places. Still in her twenties, she had full, luscious thighs, a nice body, "B-" face, and definitely looked the type (meaning "for hire"). She did not react to my occasional prurient glances. Later that evening she was sitting in front of a massage place chatting with a lady-boy who turned out to be the proprietor. Oh, boy! Physical contact! I inquired as to the rate, what type of oil they used, etc., directing my questions to her. Finally she said, "You want ME to give you massage?!" She didn't work there. Oh, well. I saw her again last night with a young farang making travel arrangements, so I think she was an "import" that he brought to the island with him.

There are lots of massage places where all customers are in sight of each other. Some of the big resorts have indoor places where I think you could get some privacy with your masseuse, but there was no one I wanted to be private with (in the afternoon, nor at 10 p.m.).

Just south of the Princess resort I found a hole-in-the-wall bar called "Dang Dang." Actually, they found me. It's like Loi Kroh Road in Chiang Mai: the girls hang out in front and yell at male passers-by to get them to come in. So I went in, sat down on a stool, and ordered a drink. I was the only customer. The four girls resumed their positions to flag down men. Nothing like looking at the backs of four so-so girls while waiting for a drink I didn't really want. If I wanted this kind of treatment I would be at Linda's Bar in Chiang Mai. I said Mai pen rai ("Never mind.") and left.

BYO girl, or just go snorkeling/diving and build up a load for a few days before going elsewhere. And I hope you like cats as much as I do because they don't neuter them here and they are absolutely everywhere.

I was in Koh Phi Phi a number of years ago. Didn't monger(and didn't look for action) as I had company. Pretty place. They shot a Bond movie there a long while ago. Good Tom Yum soup and fresh lobsters.

There was very little on Koh Phi Phi 10 years ago- just some day time restaurants and a few bungalow hotels. It was much more beautiful then . You could actually snorkel or dive and see LIVING coral - not the dead lifeless reefs you see now. The island is being ridiculously over built and ruined. DJ - I believe the Bond movie was in Phang Na Bay north of Phuket-- Not Koh Phi Phi. Of course old Leo DiCapprio and his gang filmed that classic- "The Beach " on Phi Phi Lae as well as in Krabi . TJ --I do not read Thai so I do not know Kaw from Gaw but every Thailand guide published in English spells island as Koh or Ko-- I have never seen Goh or Go. Not a BFD anyway although it does work for ur bathroom humor. Your bottom line is definitely correct- It is a BYOG kinda place as is Krabi, Koh Lanta and most other places not heavily visited by farang or with a population not big enough to support bars and go-gos.

koh phi phi definately had no action although i have heard tell of action in krabi town a couple of MP's etc. and yeah the reefs are dying real quick. i did snorkeling at phi phi lay and that was ok but i also did the one day boat tour out of koh lanta. huge boat 150 people and all the reefs we went to were dead as hell. the last stop i got out of the water early because it was too depressing. koh rok nok accessable only by speedboat however is still georgeous well worth the money.

My 2¢

I spent four nights there in August 2002. I knew to bring my sweetie with me so I had a good time. However, the fact that it's overrun with Farang tourists really turned me off. Of course more tourists means higher prices as well. It was so bad that I couldn't negotiate with the long-tail boat pilots; they set a fixed fee and that was that (who unionized these guys anyway?).

If you must go, it should be because you want to find a secluded beach. They have them, they're just hard to get to. Make an arrangement with a water taxi to drop you off and pick you up.
