BOTTOM LINE: Slim pickens'. BYO girl.
Even the motorbike-taxi driver who picked me up at the pier told me straight up there's no action here when I asked: My mee. ("There aren't any.")
Not to be put off, I found two lady bars in Sairee Beach: Hogs' Breath Saloon (2 girls total, no customers in site) and the No Problem Bar (6 girls total, no customers). Also, a masseuse offered to go home with me.
The price of an all-nighter was 1500 baht at Hogs Breath. I felt bad afterward. I should have waited until getting back to the mainland for that.
No Problem bar: Half a dozen languid, hard core hookers sitting around a TV. Not a smile anywhere.
Don't worry about directions to any of these places because this is a tiny island.
The hot tip: don't go home with anyone until you have breakfast at the intersection near these two lady bars. You may see a nice one stopping by for breakfast on her way home. I did, but I couldn't approach her because I was with mine. The breakfast queen out-classed all the girls I saw at the two bars. I can't be absolutely sure she was for hire, but she looked the type.
I like Ko Tao because it is one of the very best scuba sites I have been to. Unbelievable. Sairee Beach is a long beach with lots of topless Europe women. Cute Japanese girls running around learning to scuba, too.
This is the smallest of the three tourist islands in this area, Ko Samui being the largest, and Ko Pha Ngan. The island Thais are different from elsewhere; they're kind of burned out on dealing with tourists and some of them seem rude. (It's kind of sad to see this in Thailand.) Each island feels different from any other.

This was favorite island of the three. I had a nice beach bungalow for two weeks and did nothing but do two tank dives every day. Play chess eat at some of the restuarants and go out drinking at night. You are absolutely right....It is a definite bring your own girl type iof island. When I was there about three years ago there was two or three beer bars. You are now saying they must have torn those down.
