I have been living in Quito for about six months now. I do not believe that I have found anyplace that has not already been mentioned here but it might be helpful to consolidate and update the Quito scene. The following is not an exhaustive list but rather is of those places that I have had personal experience of, in no particular order.

Daytime places (brothels):

1. #1273 Almagro off Orellana. $15. Occasionally, there is a nice looking chica or two and attitudes are hit and miss. Shabby rooms and $2 beers. Open Monday thru Sunday until 11pm. Convenient and good for a quickie as long as you are not expecting a whole lot.

2. #110 Fernando Meneses off La Gasca. $15. Almost always at least a few good looking girls and most have good attitudes. Decent rooms and $2 beers. Open Monday thru Sunday from 9am to 9pm. They ask for the cash up-front before they will show you the available girls. They also will deliver to your apartment or hotel for $25/hr plus cab fare (max $10, both ways).

3. #415 Ventimilla near Jose Tamayo. $15. Shabby rooms and $3 beers (20oz). Very similar to 1273 Almagro but with fewer to pick from. Open Monday thru Saturday, 2pm to 10pm.

4. #557 Jose Tamayo off Ventimilla. $20. Always a good selection of nice looking chicas with (so far) very good attitudes. Nice rooms and $3 beers. Open Monday thru Friday, 1pm to 1am. Look on the SE corner for a white house with a gate on the street and a small concrete courtyard between it and the front door. It is well worth the extra $5.

5. #269 Mosquera Narváez, about two blocks up from 10 de Agosto, one block north of Colon, in the basement of the Hostal La Fragata. $22 in a decent room, $27 in the jacuzzi and/or sauna. Beer is $2 for you, $3 if you buy her one. The chicas have good attitudes and there is generally at least one good looking one. I believe that they are open Monday thru Sunday until 9pm or so.

Nighttime places (clubs):

1. Club Extasis, Ignacio San Maria off 10 de Agosto. $18 cover, which includes two mixed drinks. Many very attractive chicas with very good attitudes. They will ask for $100 but will generally take $70. Drinks for her cost you $8 and the room, another $25. The rooms are nice and the club is comfortable, well lit, and nicely arranged so that you can make your choice(s) at leisure. $25 bar fine if you want to take her home. Open Monday thru Saturday from 9pm to 6am.

2. Club 5-15, Iñaquito at Ignacio San Maria (just around the corner from Extasis). Everything is pretty much identical to Extasis in terms of prices ($12 cover with two drinks, the girls ask for $100 but will usually take $60, the room is another $20, her drinks also $8), chica quality, etc except that the club is essentially a large, dimly lit, amphitheater. Unless you are at the small bar area, it is hard to tell what you are getting unless you overtly troll. Open Monday thru Saturday from 9pm to 6am.

3. Club Night Cat, on the traffic circle at Orellana and Amazonas. $10 cover, which includes two drinks, $15 rooms (a bit shabby), $8 drinks for her, and $20 to take her upstairs (the price is posted on the bar menu). Quality and attitude are hit and miss and, in general, below that of Extasis or 5-15. I have had both very good and very bad experiences here. Open Monday thru Saturday from 9pm to 6am.

General comments:

a) When you enter a club here, high-end or low-end, they tell you about the cover charge and the two drinks that come with it but no money is paid up-front. Drinks specifying a brand name, drinks for the chica, drinks beyond the second one are happily delivered but they never tell you that Johnny Walker is $5 more, that her drink is not counted as one of your two, or that your third drink is another $10. You never see your ticket until you are walking out because your waiter has it the whole time. At the exit, you are not presented with an itemized bill, just the total which is always way more than you thought it would or should be. Whatever English your waiter might have spoken before has now vanished. How well can you argue in Español?
b) All prices cited above are for 30 minutes and one pop. If you think that you can go more than once in 30 minutes, negotiate that beforehand with the girl but, regardless, you will get a knock on the door after that half hour at all of the clubs.
c) With rare exceptions, everything is covered.
d) The clubs also have "shows". Maybe every 30 to 45 minutes, someone will go to the dance floor and take off her clothes. Maybe. If you are looking for just a strip club, I do not know of any in Quito. The girls make their money in the clubs by having you buy them $8 drinks and by going upstairs with you.
e) Many of the locals go to the clubs to drink and to paw the women but do not take them upstairs or outside. Therefore, go to the clubs around 10pm or so for the best available selection.
f) Virtually all the girls work outside of their place of employment. They will gladly give you a phone number and come to your apartment or hotel room for a couple of hours for $50 to $70. Many in the clubs have regular jobs during the week and only work at the clubs on the weekends. Best selection at the clubs is after 10pm, Thursday thru Saturday. On the other hand, your ability to get one upstairs for $50 (at Extasis or 5-15) is considerably better Monday thru Wednesday when business is slow.
g) Chicas here are not going to approach you or even make eye contact with you. Do not misinterpret that as apathy. They are generally very friendly but only after you have chosen them.
h) In the clubs, always tip the matron $1 before you enter the room.
i) Turnover is very high. The doll that you saw last week may very well be nowhere to be found on your next visit. A place with only fat ugly girls today may have a couple of knockouts tomorrow. This applies to both the clubs and the daytime places.
j) The clubs are reasonably well marked and most cab drivers will know where they are. However, the daytime places are very discrete, unmarked and unnamed, and most cab drivers will not be able to help you find them.
k) Expect very few (cab drivers or girls) to have anything beyond very rudimentary English.

Parting note:

I live and work here in Quito and, while I am considerably better paid than my Ecuadorian counterparts, I am not nearly as flush as most who come here on temporary assignments from North America or Europe. That said, in my opinion and despite what is generally said about them in these pages and others, clubs like Extasis and 5-15 are not worth the money. When all is said and done, a minimal evening (a few drinks, 30 minutes upstairs, one pop with one girl) at 5-15 will cost you around $125 and at Extasis $150. On the other hand, you can go to the "upstairs" place (#4 above) or the Medellin Café (#2 above) some afternoon, try someone out for $20 and, if you like her, have her for the entire weekend for about the same money, with no compromises made in terms of looks or performance.

That's my two cents.

I have held back from visiting Quito for a while now....I just don't see why I shoudl pay in US currency when in the country next door (Colombia), I pay in pesos and it comes to a fraction of the price (45USD) with some real Shakira look-a-like stunners!

I am in Quito now.

I went to #5 yesterday but they were closed and the hostel people said to return on Wednesday (en miercoles por las chicas abajo).

I will visit #4 when it opens later today and will report back.

I am not into the expensive clubs so will not be visiting them.

BTW, be careful of gender when being approached on the street by independents. I had one approach me who seemed cute, but on closer view I am pretty sure it was a dude and I split out of there fast. Doah!

As for accommodations, you can get a nice, clean, recently remodled room in a hostel for $7 to $20. Anything below $7 and you pretty much lose comfort and convenience (bathroom, etc.) and the place gets much older. The hotels will be more expensive than the hostels, but they will probably have carpeting and additional comforts (high pressure and hotter water). I am in the Loro Verde hostel, which was listed in the Lonely Planet travel guide (along with many others) and nicer than some of the others.

Stay in the New Town if you like to have easier access to restaurants (local and international), taxis, travel agencies, internet, nicer accomodations, etc.

Negotiate for rooms, taxis, etc. Spanish helps a lot, but most of the hostels and restaurants in the new town speak English also.

#4 was a very nice experience. I spent my time with Tatiana a young lady of about 26, fairly tight body and pretty (say a 7). Cost at this place is now only $15, but I tipped another $5 when she asked because she was very energetic and she also allowed me to take all the explicit photos I wanted in the 30 minute time limit. I asked to see her outside but she said she actually lived there, so it was not possible. The hours appear to be the same as it was closed until 1PM today and not open Sunday.

I may return later tonight, but otherwise will tomorrow for sure...
