TRINIDAD A WEEKEND NEWBIE TRIP, MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS

GENERAL
As many of you know, I currently live in the Eastern Caribbean. I’ve been here about 6 months and have been exploring a few islands on weekends. In general the area is not a great p4p locale and the island I live on, a former British colony, is rather dismal from that perspective. I had heard enough about Trinidad, and it’s a real easy trip from here, that I’d thought I’d give it a try. Many thanks to MitchC (ClubHombre) whose assistance was a big help.

First of all, I would not plan a major trip here from the US. Although there are p4p activities, the island is interesting, and there are some incredibly beautiful local women, it’s not worth the effort compared to other comparatively accessible locales (from Miami) such as the DR and CR. In my case, since it’s a 40 minute $100 flight from here, I’ll be doing an occasional report.

The island is 40% Eastern Indian, and there is a small Chinese influence, that is intermixed with a primarily Caribbean Black population. There are some jaw dropping young women walking around that in general they seem quite friendly. The island is rather Americanized. There are a few crowded 4 and 6 lane highways that are lined with crass billboard advertisements. There are plenty of Pizza Hut and TGIF restaurants as well. After I gagged, I felt homesick. Not really.

The Port of Spain airport is a good 15 miles out of the downtown area and surprisingly modern compared to other Caribbean locales. It’s comparable to SDQ but not as crowded. If you stay downtown and don’t drive, the best hotel is the Hilton You will go broke paying cab fares. I rented a car and chose a hotel near the airport. I figured it would be easy to find for a night arrival and I could explore better.

I chose the Bel-Air at $75 a night and suggest that you never stay there. The people are very nice and the place is safe. You will need directions to find it. The rooms are dumpier than most places that I have stayed in Tijuana. The hotel is located on a runway and a 7:00 AM BWIA takeoff set off several car alarms. Hot water is equivalent to winning the lottery. I am looking for additional hotel suggestions. I am thinking about using the Crown Plaza (good location in POS) on my next trip, although MitchC has suggested that the Hotel Picaro near the airport is a good value.

Driving is British style and the locals dart and weave on the main highways. A car comes to about $60 US a day. The car rental kiosks are just to the left after clearing airport security. Buy a map in the main airport lobby for 10 TT and study it. This is a big island and a little difficult to learn. Kalloo (car rental company) has an office at the airport and can be reserved through:

Trini dollars are about 6 to 1 compared to US. There is a cambio just past the first customs station. You do not need a receipt to sell back at the end. There are also plenty of ATMS in the main lobby of the airport.

CLUBS
MitchC had recommended several clubs to me and I figured I’d try them all. After checking in to the hotel I hired a cab for my first night. I figured I’d get my bearings and some tips. The cab drive to and from POS from the airport cost $300 TT. The driver waited for me for an hour.

I told the cabbie that I wanted to go to the Limousine in Arouca. This is near the airport. He told me that it was being remodeled and offered to take me to the Caribbean Isle in POS instead. I am still wondering if I was worked for the longer fare and the club that gave a kick back. I drove through Arouca the next day and looked for the club, but did not see it. Directions would be appreciated.

The Caribbean Isle is about a mile north of the Crown Plaza on the coastal road. There is a $10 TT entry fee and drinks are a little pricey. A whiskey for one of the girls was about $30 TT. I got there about 9:00 on a Friday night and there were about 15 girls and 5 guys in the place. Most of the ladies were in the 6 range, but there were a couple of 7+ Colombianas sitting by themselves. I went with one for $300 TT short time. She had said $600 for long time and $1200 for over night. The taxi driver had said that the going rate was $250 TT short time and $600 over night. Then again I wasn’t too interested in the girls I saw him talking to. My newfound friend turned out to have a bad boob job, but other than that was a very good choice. For reasons that I’ll get into later, I went with her several times that weekend.

Late the next afternoon I drove down to the San Fernando area looking for the Villa Capri in Marabella. This a well recommended club that is supposed to have a lot of hot Colombianas. The main highway south (Uriah Butler) was under construction in this area and although I gave it a shot I got lost and never found Marabella much less the Villa Capri. I’ve studied a map since and think I have my act together for my next trip. Explicit directions would be appreciated. My refined plan for next time is to park in the general vicinity and then hire a cab. Although MitchC is a great guy, he does directions about as well as my friend YoungTom. “Yeah go down over there”. In any case, having batted rather badly on finding the clubs, I made a few return trips to the Caribbean Isle in between exploring the island this time out.

I should comment that there are a lot of good things written about the non-p4p clubs. MitchC recommends a casino area in a large Shopping Mall called the Grand Bizzare. I think I noticed this where the two main highways intersect. Anybody know ? Also, the following non-pro clubs were recommended in the few sketchy reports I read.

· The Pelican club, 2-4 Coblentz, Cascade POS
· HIRPM, Gulf City Mall, POS
· Club Coconuts, Cascadia Hotel, POS
· The Anchorage, Chaguaramas
· Pier One, Chaguaramas
· The Tunnel, Chaguaramas

Additionally, the St. James area is recommended for non-p4p nightlife, but MitchC suggests that the Grand Bizzare is equivalent.

OTHER STUFF
Saturday morning I drove up to Maracas Bay. This is a very laid back beach area on the northern coast. There is a lot of parking, plenty of food stands, and a well marked undertow. I got a few encouraging looks from two local girls up here, but wasn’t all that interested. The ride is pretty, reasonably well marked, and worth the effort. My cabbie had offered to take me for $500 TT, saying I could not find it by myself. I betcha the Limousoine was open. See fotos of Maracas Bay.

SUMMARY
As you can see, I am stumbling about finding my way in a new locale. I hear there is good escort action, but I usually don’t care for that venue. Any comments to my questions would be appreciated. Trinidad is an easy weekend trip for me, so I will likely return frequently. There is no central p4p area, so it is difficult to learn. I would not recommend it as a primary destination from the US.

Nice. I am going to get some more concrete intel on my trip there over Easter. Villa Capri is great. You must check it out on your next visit. I will try to remember to get good directions for it as well as Limosiune. I once rented a car from Kaloo's. Was there an extremely hot Indian chick working there still? How many of the girls at Caribean Isle were Indian? At Villa Capri, only about 10% were Indian and most were the imported Colombians.

No hot Indian girl at Kalloo's, when I was there.

The Caribbean Isle had about 5 Indian looking girls out of the 15. None of them struck me a being over a 5. I grade hard. 3 of the 10 Colombians were pretty.

Have a good Easter trip. I will be going to Saint Martin. I am thinking I will return to Trinidad May 2nd. Let me know when you are in Rio and I'll buy you a couple of beers.

My next door neighbor is from Tobago but I'm afraid to show her your post. :-) How was the food during your trip? I have heard that the island(s) have among the most varied and interesting food in the entire Carribbean.

I was grabbing quick stuff or using the highly uninspired cusine at the hotel. I had a shark and bake (fish in a pita like baked bread) up at Maracas Bay and it was interesting. There was obviously a wide variety of resturants available covering rotis, Chinese, Indian, and more traditional Caribbean.

Man, you guys seem to have had not too good trips.
When I was at grad school in New York with no time to sex, weekend trips to Trini left me so spent it took months to refill my gonads!

Firstly, if you are going regular get a hook up with some of the guys there. I'm half Trini so am always there and when I land, we all drive down to pure slackness places. I always see a few guys from US, Columbia, Barbadoes who have plugged into the local circuite. The local are strongly influenced by the New York vibe so it's not like a dry English Caribbean island.
There is much private panty action, where the beats blare and girls are winding up that shit all over the place, beers and blunts always go with these joints (coke is not difficult to find as Trini is so close to the South American mainland).
With this type of action, it won't be found in places like Limosine (con con con).

To get your local connect ion.. DON'T RUSH IT! Trini's are not obsessed with sex like the rest of us in New York etc coz they GET IT so regular. So try hanging at some bars, drinking your brew and hanging. There are many, many people in Trini who have lived/earned bucks in the US and gone back. So they will not be looking to crowd/hussle you like what happens to me in poorer countries like Jamaica, Columbia etc. Hang with some of these guys, and they will hook you up.
