So, after everything was said and done, I was able to hike Machu Picchu, party like mad with some new but sincere Limeno friends, and monger almost every morning that I was in Lima ... 8 working-girls -- 1 from Las Cucardas chongo in Callao, 3 from placeresdelperu.com independent in-call service, 3 from Banos Turcos de Los Andes, and 1 from the non-gringo-friendly chongo house in La Victoria. Obviously, there was much that I didn't see ... as you can tell from my pre-trip list in this trip report's "Introduction" section. But, alas, although time was my limiting factor, I do believe that time will permit me to return to further strengthen my friendship with the Limenos that I know, meet some other new friends, and - of course - do some side-mongering at very reasonable prices.

After the trip, I initially felt that I didn't do much mongering at all ... but, in retrospect, I felt that I got the most out of my experience. However, if I were to return to Peru, it would be nice to hook up with another American ... rather than just mongering solo.

Some other thoughts ... include the sad fact that is true in many, many countries: most Peruvians live under very difficult situations. Even with an education in Peru, most Limenos have very little chance at traveling to the states and many have difficulty even finding stable jobs. La vida es muy dura en Peru.

Call me a fool for my social commentary, but I do have a heart these people, and I only wish that more can be done for them on a whole. Then again, this should also remind you (as I, myself, am aware of) that, as an American/foreigner, you are looked at as someone "very special." For me, I don't like being looked at in this manner ... all man is created equal in my humble opinion. On another tangent, this very fact should make you all aware that you need to stay safe and don't get hurt; it's a shame, but there's a fine line between being seen as (1) a friend and (2) an opportunity for many Limenos. If a Limeno ever starts asking for extra money or favors from you, be polite but do NOT give in. I met a number of decent Limenos, and they never asked me for any favors; they were happy to meet a free spirit from another country but respected what it meant to be a true friend. I suspect that I got lucky in this aspect ... or that they just thought I was too down-to-earth to be of much monetary value to them. I also suspect that bad luck could get one in some major league trouble ... so - remember - when in Peru, do watch your back. Having relatively strong Spanish-speaking skills will go a very long way in a city like Lima.

Well then, I just wanted to thank you for reading my postings ... I mean, ramblings! I sincerely hope that some of the information can be of some help to you. Life is good, and we should enjoy it to the max ... as long as staying smart and safe.
