My First trip to CR was fantastic thanks to all the information from this board and one other. This report will cover more than just Mongering Information because IMHO if you just go to CR for Mongering, you are really missing out.
Day one – Arrive in San Jose and clear customs with no problems (They were still letting people in with a birth certificate and photo ID). We took a Pirate Taxi to the Hotel Presidente with no problems. The ride there was horrifying. A Gringo should NEVER consider renting a car and driving around San Jose until they have been there a time or two and learn the local driving customs. First rule of Driving in Costa Rica, Use your horn for everything. Stop signs are optional if you blow the horn before going through the intersection. If you are in the far left lane and want to cut across 3 lanes of traffic to make a right turn, just blow the horn and do it. If you want to pass someone on a blind curve going up hill, just blow the horn to let them know you are coming around. There are very few road signs anywhere, speed bumps are not painted, and there are pot holes the size of New Jersey that sneak up out of nowhere.
We arrive at the Hotel Presidente with white knuckles but mostly in one piece. We were quickly checked-in and escorted to our rooms which were spacious and clean. The Showers at the Hotel are huge and fantastic.
After cleaning up we hit the town. It was still daylight so we decided to walk around and see if we could find the Blue Marlin. After a couple false starts in the wrong direction we found it less than 2 blocks away. Go in and order an Imperial. The afternoon bartender/waitress is possibly the most beautiful female I have ever seen. The rest of the scenery was nice but nothing worth $100.00 in my opinion and all the negotiations that we overheard were not getting anywhere with anything less.
We headed out after a few beers and took a cab to the Hotel Park. Not a lot there on a Thursday night. Had a few beers and left.
We were there for a bachelor party, so we needed a strip club to get things kicked off. We tried three different cabs that all told us Josephine’s was closed for remodeling and we finally gave in and let the fourth one take to Olympus. Paid for 3 drinks in advance and actually had a great time playing with the dancers while they kept trying to get us to buy them drinks. We met the Owners who were gringos that reminded us of Mafioso wantabe`s. We knew all the standard scams as myself and one other member of our party had worked our way through college as Strip Club DJ`s. This place was not much different than a Tampa Strip Club. We hung out for about 3 hours and spent less than a total of $25.00 each and feel that we more than got our moneys worth. Yes, they were constantly trying to scam us for more drinks, but it was fun.
Took a Cab to Idem. I love this place. Lots of attractive women and Roberto was every bit as friendly and helpful as advertised. One member of our party decided to sample the wares and was very satisfied. The rest of us hung out in the Bar swapping lies with other gringos. This was a great place to cap off the evening.
Day 2: The sun rises real Early in Costa Rica and some how the Hotel Presidente and room 616 specifically are the focal point for the brightest and most glaring early morning sun my poor hung over head has ever experienced. By 7:00 am there was no possibility of going back to sleep with the combination of the bright demon fire pouring into the room and the 2 million demons tap dancing in the street directly below my room. I crawled into the shower of life (did I mention the showers are great!) and was almost convinced that I may live after all when Satan Incarnate personally showed up for work in the guise of Construction workers and began taking a Hammer and Chisel to the front façade of the hotel. My buddies were able to able to convince me that if I went outside and tore their heads off, that they would just send more later and that the local policia may frown upon this completely justifiable course of action. So we partook of the free breakfast and were ready to start drinking again.
We went to the Blue Marlin had a few beers and booked a trip to Arenal for the next day at the Travel Desk. We opted to just hire a Guide and car instead of going with a regular tour. We had a few more beers and discovered Pilsen. Much Better than Imperial but still not a world class beer. (Yes, we are guilty of being beer snobs and feel that American Beer sux, and this tasted like cheep American beer). We eavesdropped on the negotiations going on at the adjoining tables and saw that the ladies were holding strong at the $100.00 mark. One gringo summed it up best when we overheard him shout “I am so fucking sick of hearing $100.00” and everyone sitting in the general area replied with an “I`ll drink to that!”. We finally realized that if we went to the Casino Tables, the Beer was free. That was enough to convince us to move on over and try our hand at Rummy/BlackJack. The rules are a little different there. A BlackJack does not pay 3:2 like Vegas style blackjack, it only pays even money, but a Rummy (3 of the same card like 3 5`s or 3 3`s) automatically pays 4 to 1. Same with a 3 card straight flush. We all sat there and played for a while and two of us broke even. I and another were up about $100.00 each. When you cash in, it takes forever for you to get paid as they cut you a check to take to the cashier. We finally staggered out of the BM and headed to the Hotel Park about 7:30 PM to make sure that we would get a ringside seat for the show.
The Hotel Park: For four guys in Costa Rica for Bachelor Party, This place is a sick twisted dream come true!! We got there and found four bar stools at the bar and staked our claim. Bill (The Owner) came in and immediately started insulting everyone in sight. We returned in kind and soon found that we had made a friend for life (or atleast until we sobered up). Bill and all the other regulars at the bar soon started explaining in detail how our Buddy who is to be soon married exactly how much of a mistake he was making. The bar is small and has the ambiance of a typical southern dive Bar. They had a big Sign on the back wall of the bar that read “Costa Rica Dance Team Tonight!!”. At 9:00 sharp Bill went and locked the doors and started collecting 6,000 colonies from everyone in the bar (5,000 for the show and 1,000 for the raffle that follows the show). Soon as all the money was collected, Bill handed out the Bottles of Baby oil and explained the Rules. There are now Three Rules for the Hotel Park Show. #1: Don’t put you fingers in the girls, it makes them sore and then they cant Fuck!, #2 No Pictures! If you want pictures, take a girl to a room and she will let you take pictures. #3 Audience Partisipation is MANDATORY!!.
With that, the show began.
11 Girls in Bikini`s and a Towel got up on the bar. The oil started hitting their bodies and the rub downs began. The girls ranged 5`s to 8`s, but what some lacked in looks they typically made up for in personality. These girls seemed to enjoy the show almost as much as everyone else. Soon they were in their birthday suits and the Muff Diving began. I was dragged up on the bar and having the time of my life, when I noticed that I was already half naked and covered in oil myself. I slipped off the bar at some point and busted up my leg pretty good but was too drunk to even notice. I had 3 women trying to get my pants off, when a moment of sobriety hit me and I realized what they had in mind and lost my nerve. Sorry, I just could pull old Johnny out in a bar full of strangers. I slid down off the bar went back to being just another ordinary pervert at the bar. Then a True Master took the stage (Mr. Nononsense) and showed the entire bar how the show was really meant to be enjoyed. Finally the talented performers paired up and broke out the Toys and went to town on each other. Eventually all good things must cum to an end and the show was finally over. Bill came out to handout the Prized T-Shirts for the best participant. 2nd Runner up was an older gentleman at the other end of the bar. The winner was of course Nononsense who went the entire distance on the Bar for all to witness. And I was First runner up. I will wear that shirt with Pride and fond memories.
The bar emptied out quickly after the show. Everyone kept giving us their tickets for the raffle as they were leaving. Soon we had a pile of about 30 tickets in front of us so it was not much of a surprise when Bill drew the first winning ticket and I had it. We tried to give it to the Bachelor, but he held firm that he would not go. Something about an upcoming wedding or some such nonsense. Well Bill starting giving us shit about being what we had just been eating, So me being the trouper that I am, took one for the team. I made my selection and headed up stairs. Bill kept on drawing until everyone in my group won. It wasn’t too hard considering that we did have all the tickets.
After returning down stairs freshly showered (It felt great to get that damn baby oil off me). I found my Buddies sitting at the bar making a futile attempt to out drink our Host. We sat there for a few hour trying to match Tall Tales with Bill and soon realized that we were in the presents of a true master.
It was then that SHE entered the bar. Ahhh, my Maria. I was instantly completely taken by this 18 year old 85lb Nymph. I had never seen a creature that oozed pure sexuality more than this young lady. She sat down beside me and without speaking a word began describing in great detail exactly what she wanted to do to me. Her smile will stay with until long after I am dead. Whoever said that the women at the park are substandard have never seen Maria. It was now after 1:00 am and we had been drinking non-stop for 14 hours. My buddies began to realize that there was no way they would out drink Bill and were ready to concede the battle. Bill personally escorted us out of the bar got us safely into a cab that he explained to the driver exactly how much they would charge us and that we were get back to the Presidente safely and with our wallets intact or they would answer to him.
Day 3: About 6:30 am the Demons again focused the sun directly into our room filled the room with the most painful light imaginable. Closing the Drapes did nothing to stop the evil light or the throbbing in my head. Why was my Hair The Demonic Orchestra of street noise soon followed just outside the window and forced me to retreat to the shower of life (Did I mention the great Showers at the Presidente). Since misery loves company, I rudely as possible roused my compatriots from their alcohol induced Coma’s as our Guide was awaiting us in the Lobby.
As we finally slithered our way to the lobby, the head demons dressed like construction workers with hammer and chisel in hand showed up and joyfully began the days work. My buddies did a good job of restraining me as I suddenly became convince that there was no court in any country that convict me for driving that hammer and chisel up their ass sideways. I was finally subdued and tossed into the Van for our trip to Arenal. Our Guide quickly caught on to our Hung Over condition and offered us the local (actually imported from Columbia) Herbal remedy for whatever ails you. I do not partake; however my buddies are experts on the subject and were quite grateful. The guide also stopped by a store so that we could fill the cooler he provided with plenty of the hair of the dog (which has always been my favorite hang over remedy).
We drove about 2 hours out to Valle Escondido. If you are ever forced to bring a significant other with you to Costa Rica, I would highly recommend that you stay here. We did the Zip line tours here. There are two different tours available. The first one we did the Canopy Tour. We are all very experienced climbers and Spelunkers and we were impressed with safety equipment and riggings. This was a safe operation. The scenery was unbelievable. We were not fortunate enough to actually see any Monkeys, but we could hear them all Over.
Next we did the Adventure Tour. This was another zip line tour that was much higher, longer and faster. There is nothing like zipping down a 3000 foot line, 700 feet above the ground at top speed while strapped to a simple pulley!
Having gotten the adrenaline fix out of the way, we went on Arenal. We stopped along the way to check out a bunch of Crocs hanging out just under a bridge right before the volcano. When we finally made it to the Volcano, It was the only disappointment of the trip. The volcano was covered in clouds. From there it was on to the hot springs. We did not do the Tabicon(sp?) springs that everyone was at. We went on to Bali Springs, much less crowded and only $6.00. Great view of the cloud covered volcano. We soaked and drank for a couple hours and then headed back to San Jose.
Back to the Blue Marlin for more gambling, Booze and Broads! True heaven on earth. Again we did great at the tables but did not give in to the $100.00 problem that is now rampant in the Blue Marlin. My partners in crime finally wussed out about midnight and called it a night. I hung out at the BM for while and circled through the Petting Zoo every 5 to 10 minutes. I was groped, rubbed, hugged, grabbed, and molested in so many ways each time that just had to go back for more. I finally found myself thinking of the night before and the Nymphette Maria at the Hotel Park. I flagged a cab to go in search of my hearts desire.
The Hotel Park was dead. Just a couple of gringo`s from that had hung out with us the night before. I inquired about my Maria, and was informed that she had been in the Show that night but had disappeared shortly thereafter. Even Bill was not around for another round of Tall Tails. I had a beer and sat around talking with my new found friends for awhile when suddenly she appeared out of nowhere with that priceless smile. She immediately jumped into my lap and said that I was not getting away this time. I agreed!!
Several Hours later, I managed to limp back to the hotel with a smile that still has not left my face.
Day 4: We hired a Cab ($100.00 for the entire day) to take us out to Jaco. Got there in one piece and did some surfing. Had dinner came back to San Jose. Fun but uneventful day. Went back to the Blue Marlin for one last attempt to give the Casio some of the money they kept providing us. We spent 4 hours there and failed miserably as we left with more money than we went in with, But had a great time circling repeatedly through the petting Zoo.
Then we made our Big Mistake. There were four of us with plenty of street smarts. Why the hell should we take a cab for two blocks? We had been there for 4 days and had not seen anything resembling a threat.
We decided to try it see what happened. 20 feet from the entrance of the Marlin, we were accosted by a small, very dirty boy (9 or 10 years old) with his hand out demanding money. He would not leave us alone. We picked up the pace to keep him from trying to pick our pockets. As we passed the Parking Garage and immediately noticed 4 men hidden in the corner. As we passed we hear them arguing about whether or not they could take us. We pick up the pace to more of a jog. Around the Corner, Almost home when we were accosted by an old woman again set on getting close enough to get into our pockets. We could see desperation in her eyes. Two more men hidden in another doorway waiting for use to stop. We did not. We were very lucky to make it back to the Hotel Park in one piece. We agreed that what we had just done was stupid and would never be attempted again. We are positive that if there had only been 3 of us, we would have been jumped. They mean it when they say take a cab after dark.
Day 5: Get up, Rush around to buy souvenirs, catch a cab to the airport and begrudgingly board a plane for Home.

"We were very lucky to make it back to the Hotel Park in one piece."
Should Read "We were very lucky to make it back to the Hotel Preasidente in one piece."
I still have the park on my mind!!

Interesting report...nice to hear the perspective of a newbie...I will make my first visit to Costa Rica in October!
I just returned from Buenos Aires...and I have been wondering if San Jose could possible be as good...sounds like there are some possibilities...and if I don't find gfe chicas at least I have a reservation at the Presidente and can take advantage of the shower!

On the $100/short-time problem... I was there the week before you were and like you, just walked away from some $100/short-time bids at the BM, and also had one counteroffer rejected with no further concession. To study the question further, here is the relevant price/negotiation info on the 6 deals I did with BM chicas:
1. Thurs, 11:30pm, Colombiana, 25yo, attractive; bar packed but women well outnumbered guys; she bid $100, I countered 20,000 col ($60), settled on 25,000 ($75).
2. Sun, 1:30pm, Dominicana, 25yo, superattractive/cute; bar pretty empty, women predominated; she bid $100, I offered 20,000 col con propina for 2 hours, she rejected it, I walked, she ran after me, excellent session, gave her 10,000 col propina.
3. Sun, 9:30pm, Panameña, 20yo, elegant/attractive/awesome bod; bar moderately full (and filling), women slightly outnumbered guys; she bid $100, I offered 20,000 col con propina for 2 hours, she accepted, then, after we did the deed, she offered to stay the night if I'd up the total to $100, which I accepted. I gave her a pocket rocket as a parting gift since she showed talent in its use.
4. Tues, 3:00am, Nica, 25yo, well proportioned, but 2nd tier in looks; I offered 20,000col con propina for 2 hrs, session mediocre so I let her go after about 50 min but gave her 5000 col as tip.
5. Tues, 10:30pm, Colombiana, 22yo, gorgeous slip of a girl, she proposed $100, I offered 20,000 col con propina BUT FORGOT TO SPECIFY DURATION; session pretty good but hurried, about 1 hour, gave her 5000 col tip and gave her a pocket rocket when she asked for it (in recognition of a great performance with it).
6. Tues, 5:30pm, found the Panameña from negotiation #3 above, and offered her $200, total to spend 2 nights in Manuel Antonio (expenses paid, of course), Wed noon to Fri afternoon. She accepted and the deal was done.
There are a bunch of further considerations: what are the girls' expectations (high on Fri/Sat nights, low in the day), what are the girl's goals (is she a local Tica picking up a few extra bucks is she a Colombiana or Panameña on a mission to make big bucks during a 6-week trip, is she a Dominicana pro who is there indefinitely?) And how do YOU present yourself? That is, do you seem to her like "one of the kids" (only possible if you're in your 20s or else VERY socially talented)? Do you mind professing poverty, or do you like to dress and play the "sugar daddy" or the "high roller"? What is your bargaining m.o.? Do you seem basically generous to her (which is not inconsistent with being a hard bargainer)? How's your Spanish (probably a double-edged sword)? In my case, I'm in my late 40s, reasonably good in Spn and love to speak and practice, I don't profess poverty, not striking-looking but appear fit and tidy (hmm, but when away from chicas I'm fit to BE tied)..
Anybody else wanna share some data?
And hey Thanatos, thanks for the VERY nice report!

Balam:
I am still confused why you guys fly all the way to CR to pay big bucks for Latinas. Certainly, offers of $100 for short time make TJ seem that much more reasonable.
By Nononsense on Thursday, September 06, 2001 - 04:09 pm: Edit |
I think it's a different atmosphere. Having been to both, I think of TJ as a factory, where the girls are an assembly line, and we mongers are just the parts whirling past them. They do as many as they can in a night, and the assembly line moves on.
Not every venue in CR is like the Blue Marlin, where the girls take a more professional, more detached approach (granted, many of them are good actresses). There are other venues where you can take a girl, expect that you'll be her only customer of the night, and for less than what the short timers go for at the Blue Marlin, you can get to know them and enjoy the whole experience. Or, how does an overnight with a BBBJ and GFE for $100 including tip sound to a TJ'er?
Besides which, while most of the BM girls are asking $100/hr, they're not always getting it. These guys are mostly paying $70 ish for one and a half to two hours... and no one bangs on the door after twenty five minutes.
There's even a difference in the quality of friendship when you make a favorita down there. I think in TJ, the favoritas are very jealous of the other girls, an indication that they view you as an income they have to guard. I have some favoritas who I think consider me a true friend, and there's a very great deal of mutual respect. When I go with another girl, they don't mind, because they have confidence that I always come back to them. I'm sure it took a couple of times for this to happen for them to have that confidence, but it's an awfully pleasant relationship.
Hope this doesn't sound too hokey, and hope it explains a little. CR just has a different flavor than TJ. If I lived in San Diego, I'd probably be in TJ every weekend. But I don't, and so I head to CR every 6 or 7 weeks.

Hey Thanatos. What a morbid name . Good report. I do see a couple of things differently though. I remeber reading reports before my trip and not knowing what to expect. Alot of the reports where so conflicting on everything from the quality of the girls to the safeness of the streets that I began to question the credibility of the authors. Im starting to now conclude that perceptions can indeed differ that significantly. I know that if I had read your report before my 1st trip it woulda worried me a bit. Then I wouldve read another glowingl positive one and been at a loss.
About the walk from the Presidente to the Del Rey... Now, I dont know, maybe im dumb or naieve or both. Im not Mr.SuperStreetSmarts or a tough dude by any means even though ive lived in NYC virtually all of my 21 years. But I never felt any danger, especially on that little walk from The Del Rey to the Presidente and I was almost always alone. To be a little blunt... I think, and I stress "think," perhaps your mind did a little racing being in a foreign country late at night. Maybe being overperceptive of danger? Or like I said maybe im just a blithering idiot bent on suicide.
Ive made that walk dozens of times, multiple times per night, usually alone. First off I dont carry anything with me but about 100 bucks and a photocopy of my passport so a pickpocket or even a mugging would mean little. Id probably head back to my room, get more money and go out again a bit shaken up but nothing that a few beers couldnt handle. That being said I just didnt see it. The whole area is mostly pretty well lit. There are bouncers along the way from the casinos/bars/clubs asking you to go in as you pass by. Taxi drivers hanging out by their cars, other toursist walking, local couples, and even single girls. You sometimes encounter someone asking for money but the people ive seen do this are anything but intimidating. Ive been approached by kids a couple times who have that dirty look you mentioned. Ive seen every form of homeless person you can imagine here in NYC as im a veteran of the Subway. But I never saw little kids and that sorta fucked me up when I saw it.
I remeber before my first trip grappling and trying to understand what kind of economic condition there was in CR. I couldnt figure it out as there seemed to be alot of conflicting information. Was it your typical Latin American poorhouse where desperation ruled or this middle class western nation? After going the answer seems to be somewhere inbetween. Overall I would say that there is NOT a sense of desperation in CR and it seems to be quite nice and stable. Immigrants from other parts of Latin American choose to live there as do Western retirees. Younger locals work in malls or stores (or the marlin) and go to college part-time like they do here.
Something interesting I noticed being a bit younger was that it seemes that younger Costa Ricans (at least in downtown San Jose) act more like kids you'll find in the suburban US. I mean in a cultural sense, the more hardass hip-hop thing hasnt taken on. Youre more likely to see kids in a park or a mall with semi-long hair and a skateboard than anything else. Damn, I always do this. I start blabbering and before I know it im off on something else.
Anyway. There are lots of newer cars driving around and a very healthy number of upper-scale amenities typical of a society with a thriving middle class. The beggers or pickpockets will be found in ANY large city, maybe a bit moreso here, but not at a rate that I think is particularly alarming. What im saying is that these are the exceptions, not the rule. I think there are a number of newbie lurkers out there who hesitate to make a trip to CR or somewhere else. They hear stories about begging kids and how you cant walk a block without fear of death and it intimidates them.
Yea, I got asked for money by the kids. First time I gave the kid 1000 colones because thats all I has and before I knew it there was the pitter patter of feet running behind me of others who smelled generosity. I gave the others 2,000 colones to split sure that there would be alot of fighting between them as to who it belonged. From then on I always kept a few 100 colones coins to pass around. I dont know, I just dont have this deep fear of 9 year olds and old desperate looking women that you seem to have. And those 4 guys... Could very well be. But Id guess they were either taxi drivers, working at the lot, or locals hanging out. Walking alone Ive seen a couple guys hanging out or whatever through the corner of my eye around there and gone on a bit higher alert, but nothing ever happened and I never reall got worried. And yea, this is at 1am, 2am. Hell, at about 2 one night my stomach was bothered by all the booze so I walked down to "Che's" (cant remeber the exact name, its that little cafe type place right on the corner of Central before you make the turn to go towards the Del Rey) and got some bread based food to try and absorb the alcohol in me. There was life in the cafe with people of both sexes sitting at the Cafe eating and chatting.
To be clear, I would never walk certain places. I would never walk somweher I was unfamiliar and didnt know. I wouldnt go around the back of the Del Rey to the park side. First off theres no reason to go but ive heard I shouldnt, and its not very well lit, and there isnt much activity there. Again, I have seen a number of locals walking in and out of the park late at night seemingly unworried. I wouldnt walk, say, to the Park Hotel from the Del Rey. Its not that close and getting lost would be a bad idea, that is a bit tougher side of town there. Still, If I was with a group of guys, I wouldnt be to worried about walking up and down Avenida or Calle central. Ive walked to idem many times at night(though never that late), both alone and with people. On the way you'll find little outdoor type restaurant stands with people eating there. Basically what im saying is that I disagree with your assessment that you NEED to take a cab for even a block. If you feel uncomfortable then by all means... But I would personally just feel like an ass asking a cab driver to take me a couple blocks.
Now I know youre gonna pick up a copy of the Tico Times next trip and there it'll be in Bold letters "Young American on Vacation mauled to death by band of children and suspicious old women. Stupid Gringo was known to declare the safeness of late night walking on Costa Rican streets. " Seriosuly though, I think everyone should be careful and aware, probably better safe than sorry. There are definitely reports of muggings and the like on the very streets im writing about. Again, as a personal decision, I think the risk is relatively low and the consequence if something were to happen very likely minor.
Going on to prices. Last time I was there in June, it seemed the rate would average $75. I rarely heard someone admit they paid $100. I was pretty confident that $80 would get me my almost any choice. The 2 Del Reys I scored were bargained at 75-80 and I repeated both, one being an allnighter. Its not high season yet so Im surprised to hear that the chicas are stonewalling at $100. You know, 100 is sortof the official starting quote. I think its alot more felxible than most let on. Depending on the girls style, if shes REALLY married to a price and is willing to sit there and go through fullblown negotiations then fuck that. Its my policy not to bother. Its an offer, a counter offer and thats it. If shes wants to push the negotiations any further 9/10 times shes a hardcore who wouldnt be worth a freebie. It just my policy that at any real hint of hardness I pass and so far its done me pretty well.
And Arenal... I got to see the lava flow which was damn amazing. Had a cabin with a window and a porch and sat at night and watching the lava rocks roll down and listening to (and feeling!) the rumbling and howling monkeys. I wouldve liked the trip even if I hadnt seen the flow and wouldnt have called it dissapointing. There drive there and back alone was great. Very scenic, and over a few hours it really sinks in that youre in a totally different world.
On a last note... Did you try Rock ice? I prefer it to both Pilsen and Imperial. Its the strongest beer there and I really acquired a taste for it. Looking forward to my next one.

Explorer Explorer Explorer! I got the BEST half-hour gfe of my mongerin' life with a sweet little 20 y.o. Nica for 4000 colones at Centro Masaje in SJ--that is $12!!! When I went back for 2nds, she made me try to swive her again after I came; when I came back for 3rds she made me accept a BBBJ; when I came for 4ths--well I don't even remember.
Plus, I found that for me, I could get 2 hrs for $75 and an allnigher for $100. I can't TOUCH those prices--let alone the $12 Nica--in Nuevo Laredo and I don't think you can in TJ either. Also, I like meeting girls from different countries with lots of different "looks"... Don't get me wrong I still love NL and the Mexicanas there...
Dapple--Fwiw, I'm with you on sense-of-danger. I've seen the kids and the old lady. Maybe I'm even dumber, but I also don't really see any problem walking from the Presidente to IDEM or to the Park Hotel or even the Molino Rojo from the Presidente...I think I have good radar. But my antennaes twitched a lot more in Panama City and Mexico. Thanatos, I do still admit I wasn't there so I can't pass any judgment about what was around you that time.
Dapple, I also think you're on the money that $75 is about average. Maybe it's a better strategy to counter with $75 (instead of $60, as I did). Although one guy I met was simply SHOWING them $50, and said that that worked for him. Whatever. Hard to figure.

Thanatos340,
Thanks for the great trip report!
My last trip to CR was 2 years ago. On my first night in SJ I went to the Park show and I met a girl named Maria. She was tiny and spoke very little english yet it was probably the best sex I have ever had. What are the chances of this being the same girl you met? Is it possible that there is more than one girl in CR named Maria?
