Just got back from my first trip to Rio. Thanks to all members here and at other boards who shared previous knowledge. I had the benefit of an experienced field guide and he was a big help.

I stayed at the Rio Roiss. It is a good hotel for a first visit. Reasonably enough priced at $65 a night, rooms are decent, staff was great, and there are no problems with visitors. Throw in the buffet breakfast and it's not a bad way to get started in Rio, especially considering the ideal location.

I liked Rio a lot. The terma girls were incredible. On my last night one of the Solarium girls sat with me for an hour after a trip to the cabana while I waited for a buddy. I told her I appreciated her company, but she shouldn't sacrifice her earning power. She just smiled and said “I like sitting with you”. During that hour she massaged just about every muscle group I have and she was damn good at it. This is what is different about Rio.

I visited Rio Antigo 3 times and was very impressed with the quality of the girls. I realize most of them are only 7s and 8s (I grade tough) compared to the 9s and 10s at Barbarella and Centaurus, but the Rio Antigo girls were all such sweeties, that I will never forget a one of them.

Monte Carlo had an off night the one night I stopped by. I left after 45 minutes and didn't go back. I tried several of the jacuzzi suites at the termas. The one at Rio Antigo is very nice. The one at 65 is even better. The Solarium jacuzzi suite isn't as nice, but they charge less and it's still pretty good.

I sat around Meia Pataca during the afternoons. The girls were friendly, but I didn't do any as I liked hitting the termas early before they got crowded. Help has a lot of good looking girls these days, but there are more than a few mercenary types in here. It's difficult to make a judgment with the loud music and trying to communicate in Spanish. All in all it's an interesting place for the people watching if nothing else and an excellent alternative to hold in reserve.

Did I like Rio. No, I loved Rio. Between the beach, the garrotas, the scenery, the garrotas, the restaurants, the garrotas, the pulse of the city, the garrotas, and well the garrotas, this is the best local I have ever visisted. I have never met such a high percentage of good looking, sensual, genuinely friendly women. Given that this was a first trip, I feel that I was probably only scratching the surface. I'll be back, probably for Memorial Day.

Can't anyone say something bad about Rio and its women? :)

Glad you had a good time and appreciate your ranking this city so high. Considering all the places that you have visited that says something about this destination.

Gitano, I am so glad Rio lived up to the hype. The greatest thing, is that it keeps getting better trip after trip..:) Thanks for the update, my friend.

Billcink,

A few words of unsolicited advice. Rio is a large cosmopolitan city of 12 million people. There is a literal maze of small interwinding streets. If you give a cabbie an address, he may not know where it is. Have an idea of where you want to go and if possible print maps from the web sites or other doc. The termas can get crowded, especially during high season, and my understanding is that New Years is part of high season. Basic message is that this is a large sprawling city and getting to know it can be difficult. I had the advantage of an experienced guide. You need to do some prep work.

Also, there are muggings and they use knives. Don't carry too much money or all your ids. If attacked, give up what you got.

Great Post.
Some travel info for others.

If you want some help from an American ex-Pat who basically specializes in being a travel agent for mongers. Try bobby at:

bobby@blameitonrio4travel.com

http://www.blameitonrio4travel.com/

He books hotels (Mostly the Roiss) apartments, rents cell phones, and can arrange airport transit for those who don't want to deal with it on their own. I used him on my fourth trip to Rio in July. He had an English speaking driver pick me up at the airport for $R 50.00 (about 20 dollars) and take me to the Roiss. If you speak fluent Portuguese, you can get a cab for 35.00, but I loved the luxury. He booked my hotel, and the driver had my cell phone, which used prepaid cards, and let you call the US for 30 to 40 cents a minute. Bobby made me promise to post, which I didn't do for four months. I'm taking advantage of the 35K mile special on United and going for 7 days this Thursday. I was about to e-mail him to arrange my cell phone and felt guilty, so here is my post.

I am in love with Rio and on my last trip, decided instead of forcing the number and schedule of my sexual experiences, to relax and see where the wind took me. This is how I hooked up with the infamous D of Malandro's Rio posts, as well as Paola. I had met D with Malandro on a trip six months previously (when I met Malandro) but neither of us (myself or Malandro)connected with her. I need to summarize for I have little time to write now, but I suggest looking up Malandro's wonderful post-Standin' on a corner in Rio De Janiero.

Needless to say, I had far more than a seven day GFE experience with D. Letting the wind take me turned into a force 5 hurricane with her upselling with more and more of her friends. I became the envy of the other terma-hopping Americans at Meia Pataca, with D hanging on my arm and my laid back, I'll go wherever this train takes me attitude. She would disappear for hours in the late evening, but show up at my hotel at six am (I had become the boyfriend-she was still a working girl). I would ask where she had been, and she would answer "having lots of sex with my girlfriends" I never quite understood that one.

Malandro brought her presents for me on a subsequent trip and got sucked into the vortex that was D. I'm leaving in for Rio in 36 hours and I hope I can find her. I'll try to elaborate on this post later.

Gitano, Thanks for the advice.I'm still looking into where I'm going stay.I know I have to decide very soon. All the prices skyrocket the 4 days around New Years.Maybe I'll try one of web sites Copanema recomends.Don't know if I made the right call to go for the first time during the holidays but I've got air-tickets so I'm going.

By Copanema on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 - 07:34 pm:  Edit

Going during the holidays is expensive, but not unrewarding. New Year's in Copacabana is one hell of a party. Make sure you can see the Meridian Hotel, corner of Princess Ysabel and Avenida Atlantica, at midnite, stand on the beach and you'll see a huge hi-rise hotel turn into one big mother-fucking roman candle. I have no idea how the fuck they do it and if they have to keep guests away from the windows.

Bobby (blameitonrio4travel.com) may be able to help, but you'll probably have to take a several hundred dollar hit, at least for New Year's Eve if you want to stay in Copa or Ipanema.

I was talking to Malandro about this topic, and if money is a serious issue, you could stay in downtown Rio the expensive nights where the prices don't inflate for New Year's, and there's plenty of action there. This advice is out of my league, but I'll let him know, and he can post some information.

I'll be writing a long trip report so newbies can learn from my first time experience.
Had the great advantage to going to Rio with experienced travelers, Gitano and YoungTom, so my trip was made very easy, custom made sexo.
I almost fell for my honey and am considering bringing her here to SD for vacation for some tlc.
I loved Rio so much I am currently sad to be back home, comparing TJ to Rio is not fair but experienced travelers compare Thailand and Rio favorably.
Good sexo is so common that you forget it the moment you are done with garotas.
I will keep Kate at Rio Antigo and my honey Claudia at Help as fond memories. Claudia wants to marry me of course but being the monger that I am I have to move on and forget about her.

Athos, great synopsis on the girls. I used to subscribe to a Brazilian site which probably has pics of some of the girls you went with! I may have to look them up. A former TJ acquaintance named Lone Wolf went to Rio once and vowed never to go to TJ again - just wanted to save up for his next Rio trip. I know you're not that strong :)

By Athos on Thursday, November 15, 2001 - 07:51 am:  Edit

Jaime
I also need to save for my next Rio trip so will cut down on TJ this winter as I hate the cold nights.

Copanema, Interesting idea about staying downtown the days around New Years.I wouldn't say money is the sole issue but you take such a hit those 4 nights was looking into options.Any other info you have would be great.Thanks.

I have been avoiding a "Rio Trip" only because I do fear either not wanting to leave or being obsessed (even more then TJ) about returning. It all started with the movie "Blame It On Rio" where the locale just looked fantastic and more recently with a few webpages devoted to Brazillian women and another board where Rio is as popular as TJ is on this one.

Knowing you though Athos, I don't think it will be too long before the memories fade and you're back into TJ with your typical vigor.

Thank goodness, I did get a hardon last night talking to an avg looking chica, we almost kiss while standing. Several prospects so I may go upstairs on sun.

ardvark,

what is this web page you speak of that is primarily about rio. ive been to tj too many times and do not enjoy it.

By Aardvark on Sunday, November 18, 2001 - 08:04 am:  Edit

The page is long gone but it was a personal webpage of a "monger" on another board who lives (I think) in Rio. It featured about 8-9 (personal) photos of 2 girls working at Solarium (sp?). The were 9's (at least) and some of the photos showed the girls pleasuring themselves.

By Sonnyp on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 - 01:45 am:  Edit

aardvark,

i believe the page you are speaking of, was done by the legendary carioca carlos. those pix are the main reason i canceled my trip to thailand, and am going to rio instead. had no idea this thing called thermae's existed at all. will be there jan 10-17,

By Aardvark on Tuesday, November 20, 2001 - 12:47 pm:  Edit

That's the guy. I've chatted with him briefly on another board (zonaroja.net) where those and other photos are.

Very true on the "quality" of the photos...made me think about cancelling some TJ trips to save the $$$ for a Rio excursion.
