EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: This place freakin' rules!!!!!!!

OK, here's how it's going: I got to Miami International at 3 pm (the new version of on time for a 5:25 flight). A great way to warm up for this trip was to walk the concourse and admire the chicas – it was just what the doctor ordered.

RTGOOCH TIP #1: Don't buy Costa Rican money at MIA. They only offered 297 colons to the dollar. I got 336 at the hotel I'm in.

The flight was on time and we landed in Costa Rica. I cleared immigration, waited for my bag and was through customs in nothing flat. I exited and got a taxi to the Hotel Presidente in San Jose. ($10 + $2 tip – about a 20 min ride).

RTGOOCH TIP #2: when the cab guys are around you, ask for a cab 'por solo'. Otherwise, you wait around for them to find another passenger and you don't save any money.

We get to the Hotel Presidente, where my reservation was waiting for me. I researched their web site, and emailed their sales department. I am staying in a 'Junior Suite', which is really two hotel rooms, for $55. This place is great: The staff speaks English, they change money for you, they even opened the Business Center for me at 4 in the morning so I could type this (free and a T-1 connection). Oh, and breakfast is included.

SAN JOSE PROSTITUTION PRIMER: This stuff is legal here, so everything is out in the open. It seems that there are three types of establishments: Bars, where the girls dance and go with you to a room on premises; brothels, where there is no bar, just girls and rooms, and 'take out' locations, where you cut a deal and go to your room. I suspect that the first two also offer take out, but you probably have to give the house a cut.

I unpack and go downstairs and get a cab to Bogart's to start off. Bogart's is a bar owned by the Webmaster at costaricasex.com. I had exchanged emails with him, and felt a loyalty to stop by his place first. It was a nice joint, but pretty empty on an early Monday night. There were two girls I liked, but they were both taken up with other guys. Rico, the owner, told me it is 6,000 colons (about $18 to go upstairs with a girl – complete). I will report back on this. Most of the girls were in the 5-6 range, but the two others were solid 8s.

RTGOOCH TIP #3: Cabs within town are cheap. Give the guy 500 colons, and he will take you anywhere in town. If you act too much like a horny tourist, they will try to charge you 1,000 colons. It's only about $3, but why give away money?

Rico walked me out and I hopped a cab to the Hotel Del Rey, home of the Blue Marlin Bar. The Blue Marlin is ground zero for all activities in SJ. And this is why I will move here. They have gambling, food, drinks, a sports book, and dozens (maybe hundreds) of hot chicas, just waiting for you to look at them and take you to your hotel.
Well, I lost some money, and decided to spend some more a little more wisely. First up, Laura.

She was from the Ukraine of all places. This girl is gorgeous. Probably 5'8'', correct weight and natural 36D breasts. She sees me drooling, comes over and makes an offer, along with small talk. Her English is excellent. She offers $100 for an hour, and I counter with $80 and off we go.

We cab to the hotel, she signs in (no guest fee), and up we go. Every thing was as pretty undressed as it was in the package, and we did the two-position and massage mambo. French was not spoken here (DATY was, seemingly to completion, but who can tell), but I forgot to ask, so who knows.

We cab back to the Blue Marlin (BM); I lose some more money for an hour, pop a vitamin V, and look around.

This time I set upon Marjorie from Medellin. No tica women yet. Marjorie will only come down to $90, so I agreed. She was shorter, probably 5'4'' or so and thin with small breasts. More of the schoolgirl look, if you prefer. We get to the room, she wants the lights low, and I say OK. We proceed. French with translator, and the standard two positions again. No DATY. She has some self-esteem problems, I think. I promise to get more adventurous as the week progresses.

Now $80 and $90 are pretty high by CR standards, but it was my first day. I promise I will do better tomorrow. It seems that BM girls garner top dollar in the city. Again, I will report back.

$80 and $90 is pretty high by TJ standards, too. I would have been passed out from the shock of their offers, and looking for a refund on my plane ticket!!

Well, yeah, but: 1. The girls at the BM were the cream of the crop. 2. This was for an hour (or more if necessary) and no knock. 3. It was my first day, and I was horny. 4. No room charge.

Besides, with cost averaging, it came out to $50 per event.

It sounds like the pricing structure is bifurcated - either you're going to pay $90 or you're going to pay $30 or less, but no happy medium.

I was at BM about 14 months ago.. I told the chicas that I had been to Colombia a month earlier and that the chicas only charged $30.. I got all of mine out of BM for $60 for a hour or two.. But the chicas kept asking me if I had been to Cuba..They all seem to have heard that chicas from Cuba would do you for a blouse or things like that. They seemed real pissed off because cuban chicas were so cheap !!!!!! Duh..
I have been to CR for 2 trips and have not been pleased by the talent or i guess the lack of talent in BM,, On last trip I pulled a Tica out of Key Largo for $30.. She was average looking and a bit overweight but fucked like a Colombian chica.. Now of course I wish I had kept her for the rest of the trip..

The girls at Idem were 14,000 colonnes (about 42). As a group, they didn't have the impact of the BM, but they were ALL very pretty.

That's as close to a happy medium as I could find.

If (OK, when) I go back, I will negotiate better at the BM. It was my first night, and I couldn't stop myself.

I have been to CR about 8 times. The BM girls have improved substantially over the last year. All but the superstars will go for about $60. The most stunning girls stick to their $100 and get it. It's not hard to find a girl you like in here and get over night deals for $150 or less. The Idem girls are in the range you mention, friendly, but no bargain for take out. I was quoted a bar fine and prices about the same as BM. There are gems in a lot of the smaller bars. All in all SJO is safe, has a lot of diversity, has incredible day trips available. But after Rio, it pales in comparisom.
