Ezy's Guide To Buenos Aires
12/15/01

It's tough to find an ugly woman or a bad restaurant in Buenos Aires. Beautiful women and great food are two compelling reasons to add Argentina to your list of places to visit. But be forewarned: Buenos Aires is expensive.

A good meal with wine will cost you $20 or more and a good woman will set you back at least $100 or more for an hour-and-a-half. Yes, these are U.S. dollars. Greenbacks.

Yeah, yeah, I know. In Tanzania (or fill in the blank with your own favorite destination) you can eat for a month for $20 and still have enough change to buy a herd of goats. And for $100 you can have the best looking girl in town for a week. She'll cook your meals, do your laundry, fuck your brains out all night long, and in the end she'll thank you for being so generous."

OK, I acknowledge Buenos Aires is on the expensive side of mongering destinations. BA is expensive, and worth every penny. I say this as one who has visited and enjoyed destinations where the costs are much lower.

Quito is another one of my favorite cities. In Quito I can eat a decent meal for $5, and enjoy a 30 minute romp with a hot Latina for $15, including drinks. But there is a difference between Qutio or Tanzania and Buenos Aires.

Quito is part of the emerging world. Buenos Aires has arrived (at least until the recent economic crisis..who knows what will happen in the future)

BA is a modern, world class city. It's subway system is thoughtfully laid out, and runs on time. It's streets are clean. ATMs work. The parks are beautiful and well maintained. . The restaurants serve not just food, but "cuisine." The toilets flush. The water is drinkable. And the women are not only friendly but gorgeous

Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against the emerging world or lower prices. I love Quito, and part of what I love about the place is that is a bit rough around the edges. And that it's as inexpensive. And that the people are friendly and willing to overlook the flaws in my feeble attempts to speak Spanish . And that the women are muy caliente en la cama.

But Buenos Aires is a special place; a place to go when you want to be pampered; a place where the women, the food, the city are the equal of any place on earth.

OK, you have been warned about prices. Now, come on along as I try to describe what you will experience in Buenos Aires. Perhaps you, too, will want to start saving your pennies for a trip to the city referred to as the "Paris of South America."

ARRIVAL

The international airport, EZE, is a sleek, modern facility located about 35 kilometers from downtown. It is aesthetically appealing and, more importantly, run with an efficiency that is rare in Latin America. The first time I arrived at EZE it took less than 20 minutes for me to collect my bags, clear customs and step into the Remise (private taxi) that would take me to my hotel. On my second trip the total time was 16 minutes.

By the time I had walked from the plane to the baggage claim area my bags had already been placed on the carousel. Next stop, the Casa de Cambio to exchange a few dollars into pesos. For the most part, the dollar and the peso are interchangeable, but an occasional patriot, flush with nationalistic pride, will insist on pesos to pay for a taxi or newspaper, etc.

On to Immigration. The English speaking official looked at my passport and asked the nature of my visit. "10% trabajo, 90% divertida con las Portenas," ( 10 % work & 90% fun with the women of Buenos Aires) brought a smile to his lips as he gestured for me to move on with one hand while stamping my passport with his other hand. The customs official took one look at me in my Levis and Atlanta Braves baseball cap, and waived me on without so much as a cursory look at my bags.

As you emerge from the customs area you will be handed a printed warning about taking a taxi from the airport. Lots of unlicensed taxis are driven by thieves, it said. Go to one of the booths inside the airport and purchase a ticket for a shuttle or for a private taxi to take you to your hotel.

MANUEL TIENDA LEON operates a reputable service. Look for the sign near the exit from customs. The shuttle will cost about $15 and a Remise about $30, depending upon where you are staying. Another option is to ask your hotel to send a driver for you. The price is about the same as for a Remise. If you choose this option, the driver will be waiting for you with your name printed on a sign. 20 to 30 minutes later you will arrive at your hotel, ready to begin your South American adventure.

WHERE TO STAY

Two areas of town are well situated for mongering activities. The downtown area and Recoleta, an affluent residential area about 10 minutes by taxi from downtown. Most hotels are chica friendly IF you register for two persons rather than a single. I can recommend one hotel in each area, but there are many other options.

HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS, PUERTO MADERO (Ave. Alem, near Cordoba).
http://www.sixcontinentshotels.com/hiexpress?_franchisee=BUEPT

Located in the downtown area, this is a new hotel with clean rooms, CNN in English, free breakfast and internet access. About $90 per night, tax not included.
The girls will have to leave an id with the front desk, but there is no extra charge and no formal sign in is required. No restaurant, per se, but the Holiday Inn has a working agreement with a local restaurant to provide delivery. The food is excellent and the service is very fast.

ETOILE HOTEL, RECOLETA (on Junin, the restaurant row of Recoleta).
http://www.etoile.com.ar/

$100 will get you a suite & breakfast in this upscale hotel located just around the corner from several of the chica clubs (boliches). No problem with chicas here.

WHERE TO EAT

Anywhere other than McDonalds is a good answer. Pasta, including pizza, beef steak, and ice cream are among the outstanding specialties found in numerous Buenos Aires restaurants. Quality food can be found literally around every corner and in most price ranges, and good food tastes better when washed down with a local wine. Here are a couple of dining options just to get you started.

BISTECA. In Puerto Madero, near the Cines de Puerto Madero. An upscale tenedor libre (all you can eat) restaurant located in trendy Puerto Madero, an area along the river where old warehouses have been converted into offices, apartments and restaurants. Bisteca offers a wide range of foods, from duck pate to pollo (chicken) in lemon sauce. Save room for dessert, and be sure to enjoy the after lemon liquer. About $20 pp, with a bottle of wine and coffee. Plan to spend several hours here. This is not a meal to be rushed.

HEREFORD. In Recoleta, along restaurant row in Recoleta. A great place for a juicy, thick, tender steak. About $20 with dessert, a glass of house wine, and coffee. When the weather permits, sit outside and watch the chicas stroll by....

PATIO DE COMIDAS, Galeria Pacifico. This food court found in an upscale shopping mall downtown has some surprisingly good meals in the $5-7 dollar range.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU AREN'T CHASING WOMEN

Buy a subte (subway) pass and visit some of the outlying barrios. Palermo, for example, has several neatly manicured parks. The Cemetery in Recoleta is an interesting spot to visit. Eva Peron is buried here, and the elaborate tombs are a site to behold! Ave. Santa Fe offers a number of upscale stores in which to shop for jewelry, clothing and leather goods. Ave. Florida is a pedestrian mall in the downtown area...great for people watching. At night there are jugglers, magicians, & musicians performing in the street.

Take an organized excursion to an estancia (ranch) or to Colonia, Uruguay. Travel Line offers an estancia tour for $60. Everything is included in this 9 hour trip. Transportation, a gaucho show consisting of music and dancing and an exhibition of the riding skills of the gauchos, a parrilla (grilled) lunch with wine, and horseback riding.

I took this tour with my chica favorita and she had a lot of fun riding horses, although she tried 4 mounts before she found one to her liking. Most of the horses were tired of greenhorns trying their hand at riding and refused to budge from the stable area. It was pretty comical watching city dudes kicking their horses in the flanks trying to get their trusty steed to budge.

For a night time adventure, try a Tango show and dinner. It will set you back $60 bucks, but the food and entertainment are excellent. I took my favorita, and I think you will have more fun if you share the experience with someone you like.

There is a casino in Tigre, about a 30 minute taxi ride out of the city. They have a nice restaurant, and lots of slot machines. I won $300 playing the slots, more than enough to pay my date for spending the night with me....

WHERE TO CHASE WOMEN

Much like Mcdonalds, Burger King and Wendys are often located side by side in a typical U.S. city, chica clubs tend to be clustered near each other in Buenos Aires. In the downtown area, there are 4 clubs in the 900 block of Suichapa--HOOK, NESS, CATTOS, and a fourth club near Cattos (sorry, I cant recall the name).

If you don't see what you want in one club, try another. And don't assume that because you found lots of hot chicas in a given club on one visit that things will remain the same. When I visited Buenos Aires in August, Hook was virtually empty. By December Hook was THE place to go. In fact, Hook was my favorite place to go. On Thursday and Friday night the place was packed with good looking chicas and a few hombres. The price for take out for an hour and a half to two hours was $100. $300 was the asking price for the night, but $200 was readily accepted as a counter offer. Hook and Password in Recoleta are owned by the same people, and the girls are allowed to go back and forth at will. Drinks and take out prices are higher in Recoleta, so the same girl will cost more in Password than in Hook. Drinks in Hook are $10 for hombres and $15 or $20 for chicas.

Ness had lots of younger girls, 20-21 year olds some of whom were quite attractive. The asking price was slightly higher, $150 vs $100 in Hook. Prices for the night were the same as in Hook. Drink costs are the same as in Hook.

Cattos and the fourth club did not have my type of chica, so I did not spend any time in either of these establishments on either of my trips.

A word of WARNING about CUTTY SARK on Reconquista in the downtown area. One of the oldest chica bars in Buenos Aires, but, in contrast to most bars, you will get no help from management if one of the girls rips you off. I speak from experience. My suggestion: Avoid this place at all costs!!!! I told girls from two other clubs about my problems with a chica from Cutty Sark. They were shocked that the manager did not set things right. Most managers won't put up with nonsense from chicas. It's bad for business, particularly if the police get involved.

The clubs don't open until late and don't really rock until after 11 or so. So if you want daytime action, try CAFE ORLEANS on the corner of Cordoba & Santa Fe. The girls at the tables who are smiling are not overwhelmed with your good looks. They are pros looking for your business. Rates are about the same for chicas as in the clubs, but drinks are $3-7 instead of the inflated prices paid in the clubs.

Recoleta offers an array of clubs. Password and Affaire are next door to each other on Guido, just around the corner from Junin. Expect to pay about $60 in drink and exit fees to get a chica out the door and $125-150 for an hour and a half session. Lots of chicas and very few hombres the nights I went, so it would not hurt to bargain.

Newport , on Junin, is a bar where the chicas are not on the program. Drink prices are $6-7 dollars, and the fees for chicas are the same as Password. Some real beauties here, but the two girls I took home were more "businesslike" than I would have preferred. Lots of girls from brazil work here, starting at about 11 in the evening.

Several blocks away, on the other side of the Recoleta cemetery is another cluster of clubs. Play Women, Solid Gold, Sodoma and Brut. Costs are roughly the same as Password and Affaire. That is, it will cost you $60 to get out the door with a chica, plus her fee which will range from $125-150 for an hour or so.

SERVICES

Buenos Aires is a wired city, with lots of online escort sites. Unfortunately, as in the United States, the girl pictured on the site who looks like Brittany Spears may more closely resemble Rosey O'donnel when she shows up at your door. There is a notable exception.

http://www.escorts-argentina.com

Escorts-argentina is a reputable site run by Adriana the Webmistress. The 50 girls pictured on this site are exactly what they appear to be. Pictures and descriptions are accurate. Adriana takes many of the pictures herself. She will also set up a date for you if your Spanish skills are not up to the task. Expect to pay between $100-200 depending upon the girl and how long she stays.

Adriana serves as Webmistress for several other sites as well, but cannot maintain the same level of quality assurance for sites with hundreds of girls as she can for her smaller site. She tries, but there are inevitable slip ups. For example, I scheduled an appointment with Natalya from the Platynum site. The phone number listed for Natalya is actually a service. The girl working at the moment is sent to your location and uses the name Natalya. The girl who arrived at my door was a brunette with very curly hair instead of the blonde with straight hair pictured on the site.

CONCLUSION

Good food. Good wine. Great women. The prospect of lower prices in the midst of an economic crisis. Start packing.
