In October, 2001 I made my second trip to the Dominican Republic. During my first trip, I had stayed at the Jaragua hotel, but found it unimpressive (sort of like a Holiday Inn quality in the US). However, the casino in the Jaragua is the biggest and best of the three (Jaragua, Melia, and V Centario Intercontinental) which are located adjacent to each other. On the first trip (January 2001), there were definitely independent ladies available in the casino, but they weren't there on this latest trip.
Anyway, this trip I was alone so I had more flexibility to hobby. I also wanted to do some more scuba diving.
DAY 1 - Santo Domingo
I flew into Santo Domingo and cleared customs easily. You have to purchase a tourist card for $10US. Be sure to keep this with you as you will need it to leave the country. I changed some money at the airport. The rate was about 16.4 pesos to the dollar, although at the time, the internet exchange rates were only showing 16.1.
At the airport, there is a crowd of people waiting to escort you the one hundred feet to a pirate taxi in exchange for a tip. This time I found a cab on my own. Flat rate of 350 pesos ($21) to downtown Santo Domingo. The trip takes about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic, most of it at high speed. In the DR, the drivers ignore the lane markings and pass each other with clearance of inches. On the trip into town we passed cars with no front windshields, trucks piled 10 feet high with burlap sacks and people clinging to the top, and motorcycles (not sure I saw more than 1 person in 50 wearing a helmet). At one point in the trip, the driver turns the wrong way down a one-way street. Not to worry though, because everyone does this to shave a few minutes wait off the trip. Everytime I've been going downtown, every driver has used the same shortcut.
Santo Domingo is a very dirty, run-down city. It is also huge and sprawling. I wouldn't even consider renting a car in the city. The rest of the island is beautiful ranch and farm land. In the north on the way to Puerto Plata, you drive curvy roads through the mountains where they grow flowers for export. It takes about 4 hours to drive from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata.
Anyway, I arrived at the V Centario Intercontinental (http://santo-domingo.interconti.com/) in one piece. This is a modern hotel with a small casino on the ground floor. The room I had was on the 7th floor ($115US) with a view overlooking the ocean. The room had a king size bed, couple of chairs, a desk, and a huge marble bathroom complete with bidet. Much better than Jaragua.
I took a shower and went to see if the places I had spotted the last time were still there. The Intercontinental is on Avenida George Washington. If you face the ocean (south) as you come out of the hotel on Av GW, and walk west towards the Melia hotel, make your first right onto a small street. Halfway up the block on your right are a couple of casas. I had seen one casa on a previous trip called the Elegance Club (look for small lettering above the entrance). The front looked closed up this time, so I kept walking (see Day 4 for more on Elegance). I figured on going to Mona Lisa, a gringo friendly club about a block north and east.
As I walked up the block, I spotted a couple of pretty ladies in skimpy pink dresses standing by the front door of a casa just a couple of doors past Elegance. I smiled and said "Hola" and they waved to me and motioned me toward them. I went to them and they unlocked the gated front door and led me past a salon area to a bar. There were about 20 ladies (4-8s) and three or four locals. The ladies were all in pink dresses.
As my spanish is pretty weak, it was a little awkward. I don't think the locals were too happy to see the gringo on their turf, but I just smiled. The ladies were all very happy to see me. The music was loud and some were dancing, two rubbing against each other. The locals at the bar were getting dry humped and seemed to be enjoying things.
I grabbed a beer and then three of the ladies escorted me to the salon. As I sat on the couch, various ladies came over. Just about all of them passed through over the next twenty minutes making sure that I got a chance to include them in my pick. One of the ladies went upstairs and got a boom box and a stack of cds. She sat next to me and we conversed in my broken spanish and her really weak english. D. was a civil engineering student trying to get enough money to go to univeristy in Indianna where she had been accepted, but couldn't afford to go. After two beers and attempts at conversations with some of the other ladies, I indicated that I was ready for a massage. D perked up and we went to register for a room.
A girl (not dressed in pink) was sitting at a small desk at the base of the stairs. She took out a ledger. The cost was 1200 pesos ($75) for fs for an hour. I think I got charged a gringo price, but I was so ready to bust-a-nut I didn't try to negotiate. I expect that I might have been able to get a much lower price if I could speak spanish ... yet another reason to learn.
We went upstairs to a decent, clean room with a double bed, table and one chair. We put clean sheets on the bed. Then we locked the door and we both stripped. D looked even better out of the dress than before. I little thick in the hips, but with a beautiful smile. I got a really good backrub with lots of lotion. At the end, she slathered herself up and I got the full body rub treatment. This was like the soapy treatment in Thailand, but with lotion.
We did the flip and she proceeded to give a great BBBJ for 10 minutes. Then on with the wrapper and she rode me energetically for another 10 minutes while I played with her c cups and oversized nipples. Then we tried a few other positions, but ended up again with her on top. She really liked this a lot ... and was enjoying herself. I have pretty good stamina (sometimes too good) and she rode like a banshee. I finally couldn't take anymore and popped but she was still going like crazy. We collapsed and she cleaned me up.
We grabbed some towels and went to a shower area (shared among the four or five rooms) and took a shower together. They had a whole bucket of those little disposable soaps like you see in hotels (except not in wrappers). Anyway, we ended up back in the room and dressed and I gave her a small propina.
I went back to the hotel and took a short nap. The Dominicans like to stay up late and party, and I wanted to be able to keep up tonight. About 8PM I got up and dressed. The Dominicans like to dress up in everything from tight blue jeans to black tie. I was dressed to the nines and walked down the two blocks to the Jaragua. Not much was happening at the casino bar and I didn't see any of the ladies around, so I walked over to the craps table. I just watched for a while and then joined in. It took a while, but eventually I figured things out. I ended up winning about 800 pesos.
At about 10PM, I headed out of the Jaragua. I used the back exit following the corridor past the restaurants out toward the garden. I then walked to the parking lot exit. Immediately to the left a half block are two clubs - Lapsus and Taboo. I went into Lapsus.
Lapsus has about 30 women in evening dress or sometimes slutwear sitting around. Sometimes one is up dancing (clothed) and around midnight they have a dance show. I didn't see it this trip, but prior trips had some fun watching (a little campy and amateur, but some are real good dancers). I ordered a drink and started checking out the talent.
The ladies in Lapsus ranged from 5-9 in quality, most being 6/7s. As they walk by, they will drag their hands over your shoulders or through your hair. They don't seem to be allowed to come sit down until you invite them. Not wanting to be picked, I smiled but gave no encouragement. I looked around and spotted a 9, she was acting a bit shy. I invited her over for a drink. She sat down on my side of the table and immediately put her hand on my thigh.
I thought, so much for shyness. Her english was about as good as my spanish, but we connected. She had light mocha color skin, 24 years old, maybe 5'2" and about 105 lbs. I like 'em dainty but fiesty. Kenia (not her real name I'm sure, but matched her id) and I had a few drinks and then I told her that I was ready to leave. She asked what I wanted to do. I said get some dinner and go to the hotel. She asked which hotel ... told her Intercontinental. Kenia indicated that Intercontinental was fine, but Jaragua was bad as they did not allow guests.
I paid the tab and barfine (I think it was 500 pesos = $30). Kenia went to get changed into her jeans and we left. Here is my biggest mistake of the whole trip ... I did not negotiate a price.
Then I made my second biggest mistake, I let her see how much money I had in my wallet. I normally hide most of the big bills and I had in fact left most in the safe at the Centario. I did have quite a bit with me though because I had won at the casino instead of losing as I had expected.
We got in a cab and I asked her to recommend a restaurant. She pick Vesubios (Italian), but they were closed by the time we got there. She and the cab driver talked, and we picked the Meson De La Cava Restaurant. This is a pretty cool place that is worth a trip. A restaurant in a natural cave. They have a good list of wines. Food was ok, but not spectacular. Service was excellent. In fact, they were quiet so one of the waiters came and sat with us for about ten minutes to act as a translator. I'm sure they knew what we were up to, but we were well dressed and good patrons and they didn't seem to care.
The cab driver came back and picked us up after dinner and took us to the Intercontinental. As we walked in, we were almost to the elevators when a security guard stopped us. He asked for my room number and her id. She gave it to him and we went up. About 5 minutes later there was a knock at the door. The guard was there with her id. I took it and said thanks. There was never a charge or mention of things in the morning.
Kenia took a long shower (like 20 minutes) ... I guess she doesn't get access to hot water very often. When she came out, she started acting shy again. We got under the covers and things started to heat up. Eventually I got a covered bj and some good action. However, she was pretty conventional.
We went to change positions and she pulled away from me before I could get a good hold around the base of condom, so it came off but without any contact or spillage. I would have grabbed a fresh one, but she immediately jumped up and ran back into the shower for another 20 minutes. When she finally came out of the bathroom again, the mood was shattered. At this point, I was feeling frustrated and her cell phone was ringing. I ended up with a hj that was interrupted by about 5 different calls. I should have just sent her home, because what started off a magical evening turned mercenary.
At the end, I gave her 1000 pesos. She was offended and said that she was not like the other cheap whores at lapsus, and that she got at least 1500. I didn't want a scene at 2AM in the hotel (and I hadn't tipped the security guard - which in the future I will do every time). I buckled under and gave in. She then wanted money for a clinic because of the condom. She had seen a $50US bill in my wallet. Magically the clinic cost was $50US. I told her that she needed to find a cheaper clinic, because they did not cost that in the US even. I took back the extra 500 pesos and gave her the fifty. I escorted her to the door and told her that I did not like being taken advantage of. I was just happy to get out of the experience without an incident in the hotel.
It cost me too much money, but it was a valuable experience. I got taken by a hardened pro who was quite an actress. I've yet to try to do a LT experience again preferring to use MP and ST hotels.
After the emotional roller-coaster, I just crashed.
Day 2/3 - On to Boca Chica
In the morning, I walked up past the elegance club to a small pharmacy and stocked up on Vitamin V to take back to the states with me. The cost was 228 pesos ($14) for 100mg. However, they mis-marked the package and the cashier charged me for one pill when there were 8 in the package. I didn't point out the difference. There is a small buffet restaurant on the opposite corner, so I had a cheap authentic DR meal for about 35 pesos.
I took a cab to Boca Chica and checked into the Costalunga Residence Club (http://www.costalunga.net/). I had a reservation for $35US for a single. They gave me a suite with two rooms on the ground floor for the same price. I definitely liked the ground floor room. Note ... no elevator here. Last time I stayed, was on the fourth floor. Also note that the pool is not heated.
Costalunga is guest friendly, though I never did bring anyone back. There are no extra charges. They have a guard standing outside all night with a loaded shotgun, so security is pretty good. They are two blocks from Ave Duarte (the street that runs parallel to the beach).
I spent the next two days scuba diving. I don't drink much while I am doing any diving, so my nighttime activities are limited. Boca Chica is a run-down beach town that never really recovered from the last hurricane. There is the oppresive Coral Hamaca all-inclusive at one end and then public beach for a half-mile. Vendors and SGs will approach you constantly on the beach and it gets to be a hassle. Some scary looking SGs are hanging around the Ave Duarte during the day, sometimes sitting at one of the pubs, and around the main park at the other end of Ave Duarte.
At night they close off Ave Duarte to vehicle traffic. Taxis in Boca Chica are motorcycles, but everything is so close, I always chose to walk. I think the fare is 10-20 pesos.
The bars setup tables in the middle of the street and the party really gets going after 10PM. The main locations are Zanzibar and a bar called the Madhouse run by German ex-pats (my preferred location).
I didn't stay up for the nightlife in Boca because most of it girls of quality from 0 to 5, which is below my level of do-able. There are undoubtedly some gems, but most of them work as waitresses in the bars. You can probably get them too, but they will be expensive (more than they are worth).
Boca Chica can be a fun place, but on the weekend it is invaded by locals from Santo Domingo. They party hard and trash the beach.
The bay is really shallow, so people go way out toward the reef to make out and have sex in the water. One day coming back from a dive trip, I saw a fabulous chica sunning herself topless on a platform in the water by Coral Hamaca ... I suspect she was a guest though. We also went by at least three couples doing it in the water.
In Boca Chica I stuck to the MP that had opened just around the corner from Costalunga. It is a house with a couple of private rooms. There are about 3-4 chicas working. I paid 800 pesos for a bbbjtc from a beautifully stacked lady of about 23 years in age. One day was topless. The next was totally nude. Probably could have had fs, but was much more interested in a good massage and bj.
Day 4 - Back to Santo Domingo
I took a pirate taxi back to Santo Domingo. I was having trouble finding a cab, but the teenagers on motorcycles called a friend. I wasn't sure about the guy at first, but everything turned out really well. He was pretty funny and a better driver than most. This turned out to be necessary as we passed vehicles with no headlights, no windshields, a car with a windshield so spidered with cracks that the driver had to stick his head out the window to see where he was going. All of this took place on a main road with no street lights. At the same time, we were dodging potholes and motorcycles.
When I arrived back at the Intercontinental, I was thankful to be alive. I got cleaned up and went to check out the casas again. They were both closed (I think by 10PM).
I ended up back at the craps table at the Jaragua. I spent the next four hours gaming and watching the live music in the casino bar. There were some pretty good musicians and dancers. I ended up losing about 2000 pesos (should have quit while I was ahead 1000).
I was wiped out, so I went and crashed. In the morning, I went to check out the casas again. Club Elegance was open, but there were only two chicas. They were both about a 7. I drank a coke and we negotiated. They were both trying to get me to pick them. I asked about the price. They said 1300 pesos for one girl. I countered with 2200 for both (leaving me just enough pesos for a cab and lunch at the airport). Done - not even a moments hesitation!
We proceeded back to a room that had a massage table and a couch. Everyone disrobed and they gave me a pretty decent massage, but it only lasted about 5 minutes. They both knew why I was there. The next hour was some of the most intense, physical sex of my life. I had taken a 1/3 viagra while drinking my coke. They say it takes an hour for that stuff to kick in, but in 20 minutes I'm hard as nails. With the vitamin V I can last for hours sometimes. I got a bbbj from both girls (one at a time). They alternated with just about everything. While one was mounted the other would touch and caress me. They weren't into each other, but they were definetly aggressive. I wore them both out. We finally finished with a four-hands hj. Leche everywhere! They were impressed and laughing. We had a great time. They were complimentary on my stamina and production ... making a bunch of disparaging remarks about their typical customers. I highly recommend Elegance Club. I had another outstanding experience on a prior visit too, so this is definitely a local place that is worth putting on the agenda.
I went back to the hotel and showered (could have done it there, but the club does not seem overly clean). Packed my suitcase and headed for the airport.
There are definite possibilities in the DR. Some of the ladies are outstanding, but I have high expectations and look for good attitude over appearance. I would definitely stay at the same hotels again. There are other options around, but these are clean, safe, and well-maintained. I plan to go back to DR about once a year. Scuba is pretty good too, but not fabulous.

Sounds like you had a pretty good time. 1000 pesos is the price for ST and 1200 for LT in the nice places in SD. No sense in that but that's the way it is.
Your "date" certainly knew the nicest places to eat. Expensive anyway. Both Vesuvios and the Meson de la Cueva have been around for decades. Another excellent restaurant not too far from where you stayed is a Spanish one whose name escapes me at the moment. It's about 2 blocks or so from the Jaragua right there on Independencia Ave. The Jaragua used to have a top notch breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings. Pricey by local standards but good. A short taxi ride up Bolivar Ave. will take you to the Hotel Lima which has a killer restaurant with many Spanish entrees.
SD has a number of casas in the upper part of the city but you will need a taxi to get to them. Or rent a car and pray. An idea I have used in the past is to pay one of the taxis in front of the hotels a set amount to take you around to the places in the daytime. That way you can get a feel for them and come back in the evening without getting nailed for a comission to the driver.

Interesting... I'm not sure I'll ever get there, but I enjoyed reading the report. Dogster
