Some of the following ideas and tips are not all mine. They are a gathering of information I have used to make my trips to Cartagena more enjoyable.
I hope they help.
My favorite restaurant in Cartagena is Babar, not becuase it has the best food in town. I really enjoy the atmosphere.(the food is good also). They serve American and European dishes and a great selection of fresh seafood with a local flavor.
They have a nice selection of American music and the service is excellent. They have a lounge and bar upstairs that caters to a younger upscale crowd.Babar is located at Centro/Esquina Plaza de
Santa Teresa. The telephone is 664-2040.I always use the white taxi's because most have A/C.A good place to get a good exchange rate is Garulla (spelling might be off)supermarket. As you enter before the registers turn to your left for the cambio. If you tour Isla de Margarita, remember they have several different islands you can explore.I prefer the Cocolisa tour the boat is much larger and has A/C.The pool on the island is fresh water not salt like some of the others.I do not stay at the Hilton but I do like to eat at the breakfast buffet,it is to the right behind the reception area down the hallway past the shops. My favorite place for lunch is Julias.A short walk from the Las Velas towards the Hilton. They have great fresh fish.If you like to boogie try MR. Babilla's disco things start around 12 midnight bring a date because it's too
loud to carry on a conversation. For a taste of romance and history take a carriage ride in the old city.If you visit Castillo San Felipe at the top near the snack bar ask for a tour guide. They have english speaking guides available. As for now that sums it up.In reference to the title you know you have a GFE going when they tell you their real names. The two girls I spent time with were both named Margarita.
