Since I have gotten (most) of the cobwebs out of my very tired brain, i will begin a report of my recent adventures in Costa Rica.

Sunday:
After a very busy Saturday night at work, I pretty much just skipped sleeping, walked the dog, took a shower, made a pot of coffee, and at 5AM left to park the car. Check in was EZ since I was travelling First Class. Flights were good and on time. My leg from Tampa to Atlanta was the pilots' final trip before retiring and upon arriving at the gate, they had the ceremonial hosing down of the plane from an emergency fire vehicle, this was a first for me, pretty cool.
Arrived at San Jose on time about 1:30PM, it seems there is a new airport, but Delta still uses the old terminal, no problem. Grabbed my bag and a taxi into town. Checked in the Presidente and my "Junior Suite " was ready. It was actually a single room and an adjoining double room. Not my idea of a suite, but still nice, all marble bathroom, great powerful shower, cable tv with 60 channels, a few in english. Heard a lot of music in the street, went down to investigate to find about a thousand people all dressed in green carrying signs for a presidential candidate. The elections were 1 week away ( on Super Sunday ). Went to the bar to find no alcohol being served due to the political rally. OK, headed up the street to the Del Rey Hotel/Casino and Blue Marlin Hooker Bar.

It was early, about 5PM but the place was happening. The bar was packed and everyone was drinking Cokes, what a trip.Anyway I was ready for some action, so I prowled for a while and snagged Miriam from Dominican Republic, and headed back to the Presidente. Tuesday:
Had booked a tour for today, the highlights of Costa Rica. Bus would pick me up at 615 AM, ouch. Had breakfast, then Max, the tour Guide found me. I grabbed a coffee to go and followed him to the bus. Small group, about 16 people. First stop was the 3 generations coffee plantation ( we had to pick up a few more passengers first) Beautiful grounds, breakfast, again, then Poas Volcano, the Cloud Forest, a waterfall, a pre- Colombian burial ground, lunch at a lodge on a river, then a walk across a rope bridge into the rain forest, Max was like Jeff Corwin (animal planet) picking up poisonous frogs and deadly ants, I got a kick out of it.
Then we headed to a river boat for a ride down the river to spot wildlife, we saw howler monkeys, lots of huge iguanas, and a cayman ( like a crocodile ), then a pit stop and back to San Jose via the Pan American Highway. Back to the hotel about 6PM.

I was in need of a massage so I showered and returned to Arte Sauna, the selection of girls was fair, but Vanessa was there and gave me a big smile, I couldn't resist. Well she smiled and said "I see you are trying to speak Spanish, where are you from ?" Ended up she was an English teacher at the University. We talked for a while and she graciously would correct my grammar, while forcing me to speak to her in Spanish. Anyway, she gave me her pager # and e mail and offered to show me around if I wanted or on the next trip as "a friend", hmmm.

Returned to Centro, more shopping, coffee, t shirts, etc. Hit the ATM again. headed up Calle Central to check out Krysis. This is a massage/brothel with a strip club next door. From what I had read, the strippers work at the massage during the day and dance at night. Is that the entrance fee, and does the chica cost more? If not, do you tip her?

Re: Arte Sauna: the total cost is 10,000 colones or about $28, this includes the girl of your choice, a massage, full service sex, use of the sauna and the steam room. Yes, tip is expected, but I usually gave them 2000 colones or a $5 spot and they seemed very very happy.

I'd say that a tip is not unexpected, but it's not expected.

A lot of the business at Arte`s is from Ticos and they NEVER tip.The girls look forward to the gringo business. I always give them a small tip at the beginning of the session. It seems to put them in a better frame of mind .
