HOOOOOOO WEEEE! Two RIO vets and I spent one helluva week in RIO and had the absolute time of our lives. This was my first trip to RIO, but I’ve been to Thailand numerous times. It was certainly a change of pace to be the pathetic Newbie again, but not as traumatic as the first time to Thailand due to the multitude of resources and individuals at my disposal to help with the transition. Naturally, since my reference point is Thailand, my jaded experiences and observations were viewed from that prism. There are numerous excellent reports on both Thailand and RIO on this site, and I won’t even try to emulate them. What I will try to do is fill a different niche that some posters on the Asia Board and some SA guys I met have inquired about – i.e. how are the girls? I’ll dedicate this report to the awesome group of guys on the ASIA section and the new friends that I met in RIO who selflessly gave me their time and ears.

PREFACE

One thing I can boast about is that we did almost everything there is to do in RIO, including visiting all but one major Terma (RIO ANTIGUA), hooking up at HELP disco every night, venturing into the depressed area known as San Cristobol, visiting a “Love Motel” with a favorita, ogling the gals at MEIA PATACA, picking up gals at the beach, etc. RIO vets have probably nailed down their favorite hangouts, but we had to try them all.

COMPARISIONS BETWEEN THAILAND AND RIO ARE INHERENTLY MEANINGLESS

Let me cite McDijj who stated it so eloquently, RIO and Thailand are “two districts in heaven”. If you’re a die hard hobbyist (I hate the word “Monger”) and you LOOOOOOVE WOMEN as much as I do, then your mission in life is to make a pilgrimage to BOTH places to pay your due respect before you leave this earth. It’s truly comparing apples and oranges, I can attest that both destinations have so many beautiful girls to offer, albeit in differing and unique ways -- I liken it to debating one’s preference for a Porshe versus a Mercedes, both have strong adherents based on their tastes and preferences.

I’ll try to cover the main topics upfront, and hit the miscellaneous observations about the flight, preparation, and hotel at the end.

GENERALLY OBSERVATIONS OF THE GIRLS

Most of the things I heard and read about concerning the Brasilera Garotas (“girls”) are for the most part true. The Garotas (“girls”) were, as a group, incredibly affectionate, extremely energetic in bed, consistently passionate kissers (DFK). And yes, many did have those voluptuous, perfectly formed bundas coupled with firm, rock hard bodies that I adore. Let me tell you, I’ve been to a of different countries to practice my craft, and I must admit that the Garotas here have HIT the genetic lottery when it comes to their bundas (“asses”), which were well rounded, shapely, and without cellulite -- magnificent works of art! Someone sequence this genome. Tit-wise, most girls had nice firm tits and, surprisingly, I did not come across any silicone tits, which I detest. RIO guys were surprised when I told them that many Thai girls also have nice tits, perky tits, as well as some Thai girls with big knockers. For comparisons see my friend OHM from Nana Disco. On average, the Garota had bigger chests than their Thai counterparts.

I was expecting a lot of big-boned amazon type girls, but I was pleasantly surprised that the girls in RIO came in every shape and size imaginable. I mean, the diversity was astonishing, you had short, tall, blonde, brunette, skinny, big-boned, Anglo-looking, surfer blonde types; olive skinned Morenas that looked latina; some big-boned Amazon girls; light skin and dark skin black girls; some of European ancestry; and a few non-working girls I met who were of Asian descent, etc. Brazil is truly the melting pot that the U.S. says it is.

The Garotas were obviously taller and more filled-in than their counterparts in Thailand, a bit more curvy, and bodacious as well. Thai girls are sexy in their own way—more girlish, slender, and younger looking. Many of the working RIO girls were in their early to mid - 20’s; whereas Thai girls are in their late teens and early 20s. Of course, THAI girls look uniformly younger than their ages.

Generally speaking, I found the Garotas to have firmer, more athletic bodies. I obviously have a personal preference for the small framed, girlish, petite girls we LOS guys call “spinners”. There were some of those, but not as plentiful. Thai girls are diverse in a different sort of way in that you have Latina looking morena types and Asian looking, light skinned girls from the North. It’s also worth noting that a lot of THAI girls come in all shapes and sizes as well. Although you won’t find as many well developed bundas in Thailand, I can say that I do encounter them in Thailand. I found Thai pussy to be tighter and smaller as general rule, naturally due to their small frames and possibly due to the sheer volume of girls and the huge turnover. As a rule of thumb, I found very few Thai Girls who have or had kids.

THE SEX

Generally, the vast majority of the girls in RIO consistently gave out very enthusiastic and expert BBBJ. Thai girls generally give you CBJ (especially at the Massages), but BBBJ is not unheard of – I’d say about 1/3 gave out BBBJ in Thailand. The programa Garotas had incredible fellatio skills, especially since it was BBBJ – this included, skillful use of the tongue, a longer time doing it, and often, expert deep
throating. In fact, one gal at 4x4 gave me a BBBJ for 40 minutes! I did her 2x of course.

Most of the Garotas, especially the Termas girls, were extremely energetic in bed, very passionate, and truly looked liked they loved having sex. The girls loved to take the initiative. The sex was always covered and many were eager to try the non-standard positions. The few that did permit anal were from the Termas and they did it with relish, the experience was incredible. For me, it seems that there are so many working girls in Thailand and since they rotate in and out of the go-gos so often, there are many who are not as experienced, and some could be more passionate. But the shyness, and seeming naivete, and reserved quality is sexually more appealing in a sort of way than a hardened pro.

One thing unique about RIO was that all the Garotas were enthusiastic and expert in DFK, I’ve never been kissed so deeply and passionately as I have in RIO. Most Thai girls (as with most working girls elsewhere) don’t like DFK as it ventures into a higher level of intimacy for them (and fucking doesn’t?). But the DFK was very enjoyable.

The freelancers that I picked up at HELP disco were a hit or miss type of deal since many were by definition “freelancers” or part-timers. I’ll note this later, but some of them were off-duty “programa” or working girls (who had good bedroom skills), and some were there to make an extra buck for school or to supplement their day time income.

The biggest difference between Thailand and RIO (aside from the obvious physical differences) is the sheer numbers of working girls in Thailand, which would be inconceivable to someone who has only been to RIO. As much as I tried to explain it, some RIO vets could not conceive of the concept of unlimited supply. RIO has a lot of girls, but imagine one larger go-go in Thailand with 80+ girls, and then imagine 30-40 or so such clubs clustered in just one entertainment complex called NANA Plaza! There are hundred of go-gos and bars and massage places. Plus, Bangkok is just 90 minutes away from Pattaya beach, which probably has more working girls per capita than anywhere else on this earth. The sheer volume ensures that there will never be shortage of girls, and better yet, it ensures that there is always a new girl to hunt down. The concept of waiting in line for a popular girl (which happened many times) or a room to taker to her was unheard of for me while in Thailand (more on this later). Also, RIO had a lot of attractive women, many who could easily grace the pages of Playboy or Penthouse; but there were not as many of the bite-sized “spinner” types that I find so attractive.

GENERALLY OBSERVATIONS OF THE SEX VENUES.

RIO was a blast during the week preceding the Memorial day weekend, plenty of Garotas and not long waits for rooms. But once the memorial day weekend came around, some venues were just absolutely wall-to-wall guys. For instance, Terma 4x4 on Friday was literally elbow-room only with guys and standing room at the Boites or bar area. At Centaurus on Saturday around 5:00 p.m., the waiting lounge area (where guys wait for the rooms) was similarly packed with guys and their gals waiting for rooms, some guys having to stand around as there were no sofa lounges to wait in. I waited 30 minutes for a room, but the poor smucks that came after me easily waited 40 minutes or more. I heard Luomo on Sunday had a line outside 7-10 guys deep! Again, due to the sheer number of gals and the hundreds of different options in Thailand, waiting for girls or elbow room only type of things are unheard of.

Other posters have correctly pointed out that the sex scene in RIO is rather discrete in the sense that there are no huge, neon signs or girls yanking you in from the sidewalks to try out their go-go or bars. Rather, the Termas are located in often very good areas and are non-descript from the surrounding buildings for the most part. If you didn’t know it, you would mistake HELP disco for any huge disco with lots of young people --- great music, dress code, good lighting and setup.

The other uniqueness of Thailand is the mindboggling variety of sexual entertainment that is available throughout the day. For instance, there are huge massage/entertainment complexes, hundreds of beer bars that often open in the morning, hundreds of go-go bars, blow-job bars (yes, they exist), call girls, beer gardens, Thai traditional massages, free lancers in the streets, free lancers at the discos, karaoke bars with hostesses, artists bars with girls wearing prom dress wearing girls, the Thermae and Grace Hotel after hour hangouts, etc.

In RIO, the options are Termas, Discos, Meia Pateca restaurant and the nearby beach, the call girls, freelancers at the discos, and some other seedy areas not worth visiting.

THE TERMAS

The Terma experience is a one of a kind thing experience. I enjoyed it immensely when it wasn’t busy, but it can quickly turn into a zoo with guys competing for the best looking girls. In fact, at some times, it was so claustrophobic at some Termas that I just bailed. My RIO buddies noted to me that RIO is “on the map” now and they expressed deep concerns that this place will get too popular for its own good.

Most of the girls at Termas were average to slightly above average, with many Terma having at least a handful of stunners. The Copacabana area Termas had the better looking girls. Although many Termas claimed to have upwards of 80 gals, most are nto at the Boite area at one time (some in rooms, some not at work). One problem with some Termas is that there was an inverse correlation between a girls looks and her aggressiveness – i.e. the uglier the girl the more aggressive she was. I mean, it seemed as though every Terma I went, I was assigned an UGO for me to shake off utilizing any desperate measure I could think up. I found that lighting a cigarette prevented them from attempting to kiss you (which is an act of commitment), then you start blowing smoke in their faces. Another tactic is to rush to the shower room, but one fucking girl even followed me into the shower room to wait for me. At one downtown Terma, I fucking had two ugos literally do a “pick and roll” type blocking maneuver to corner me at one end of the Boite. And the stunners, I’d make eye contact, but a lot of them were taken or would bail on me when one of their long time customers came in later.
The other slight issue I had is that once you visited a Terma and had a girl, this girl thought that she owned you. I made it clear to them I was there to “butterfly”, and many girls respected that, but some girl couldn’t take the hint. Once I was labeled, I got the sense that I lost all hope with any other girl (some sort of professional courtesy I imagine).

Although there’s nothing like a Terma in LOS, I can roughly say (for comparison purposes only) that in some ways it resembles a little bit of Edens, a little bit of the Thai go-go and a bit of the Massage experience. The Terma resembles a Thai Massage in the since that you enter what is essentially a multi-purpose entertainment facility. The Termas have showers, saunas, locker rooms, rest areas, lounges, some with steam rooms, and a boite (or bar area). The Termas are not as big as the Thai massages facilities, which are incredibly HUGE by comparison. Thai places have the famous “fishbowl” type of arrangement (glass enclosure with stadium type seating with girls dressed in nice dresses). Many Thai massages do not have the bar or BOITE areas where you hang out, although some have bars and restaurants. To give you an idea how big some of these Thai facilities can be, the POSEIDEN Massage occupies a huge buildings (about 10 stories), 3 or 4 of those floors are full of dozens of nicely furnished rooms with bathtubs, beds, sofas, etc. There is also a big restaurant, one floor is entirely a café/lounge with playboy type models, and there is a bar if I recall. Another massage place called CPII has a fishbowl area with girls easily numbering over 100 on any given day.

As you enter Terma, you are given a locker key, and everyone changes into these terry cloth white robes that is the great equalizer – i.e. no one looks good in them. You keep your street clothes on in Thailand until you pick your girl and go to the room. In RIO, after you shower and hangout at the sauna, you enter an area called the Boite or bar, which is essentially a small bar with stools at the bar and some lounge sofas to sit on. These bars are not huge, but rather small. As you take your seat on a stool area or the lounge, there are girls in bikinis or other revealing outfits either standing, dancing or sitting with other guys. Our routine was, after we get a drink at the bar, we would sit around, drink, and try to establish eye-contact with someone we liked. The best part of this experience is the interaction you get after making eye contact with a Garota. It really helps to see if there is chemistry before you go into the rooms, which are quite small (some are like 20ft by 30 ft) and sparsely furnished with a bed, mirror, pillow etc. If you like the girl and she likes you, you or she can initiate the DFK, which seems to obligate you to go with the girl to a room. As I noted, he interaction can be a drain in the sense that the less than attractive Garotas may latch on to you. Other times, I had girls I did previously “lay claim” to me come and bother me for a while.

The Terma rooms are quite small and Spartan by Thai standards. Thai massages are a lot nicer, and better furnished, with bathtubs, and a bigger bed, and lots of mirrors. Terma rooms have just enough room for a twin sized bed and mirrors on the walls, most places do not have a shower in the rooms (except for 4x4).

The go-go experience is somewhat similar to the Terma only in the following sense: at go-gos, you have a dance stage (with poles) were dozens of girls are dancing around in skimpy outfits or nothing at all on a raised dance stage. Go-gos have a tiny bar area, but most guys get seated on nice seats circling the go-go stage. Terma girls sit with you or dance near you in the middle of the bar or Boite. The go-gos essentially look like U.S. strip clubs. There are no locker rooms, showers, etc. at go-gos. Like a Terma, however, if you like a girl, you can make eye contact or ask the waitress/mamasan to call her over to you. I even have one of those laser pointer pens from work and outline the girl using the red laser – this ensures that the waitress who fetches the girl knows which girl I want (the girls are packed onto the stage and imagine the difficulty describing a girl who shares 80% of the characteristics of the girl next to her). As with a Boite, there’s a period where you can briefly try out your pantomime act with her and attempt to converse with the girl (Thai girls know the essential English phrases “Short Time” “Long Time” “here on Holiday” “1000 baht” “2000 baht” “Hansome”). The conversations are brief because the music is blaring at these places) to see if you want to take her to your room or not. One other thing about go-gos, it is rare to wait around for a looker because there are SOOOO many girls to choose from. For instance, I would say that some of the bigger, nicer go-gos in Pattaya like SuperBAby or SuperGirl or Happy, will easily have at least 40% of the girls that are very attractive.

MONTE CARLO

This was easily our favorite, we visited this place 3x to visit my favorita, a stunning blonde named Carolina (who was the closest to a spinner that I could find in RIO). Carolina was so beautiful and sexy that she could easily have graced the covers of Playboy or Maxim magazines. This chick was on the shorter, slender side, but she an incredible body, and a breathtaking face, and a great attitude to melt any soul. Sex with Carolina was a dream each of the three times that I did her, she gave passionate DFK, a BBBJ to make your skin crawl, and sex so enthusiastic that she rode me for about 15 minutes one time on top until she got off. Monte Carlo is a smaller Terma, with multiple stories, in Copacabana. Close to the hotels. Each time I went there, there were about 20 garotas, most average, but about 4 or 5 definite lookers. I found the girls here to be the friendliest and the most flirtatious. It had nice shower and sauna facilities.

The best part of MC is the management, just outstanding. I was impressed at how they remembered me after my first trip, and the front desk never failed to inquire how I was doing and that Carolina was “beezy” for about 30 more minutes.

SOLARIUM

I went to Solarium on a Sunday and found the place to be packed with guys around 5:00 p.m. (one of only two Termas that were open that day). Very nice setup and facility; and there were three or four very good looking girls there out of about 20 girls, most of them were taken up. I did catch the key of a nice looking girl named Vanessa, who I remember from pictures posted by others on this board. This girl was hot, great ass, nice firm body with nice tits. Vanessa had the firm, athletic body that I encountered many times in RIO. I liked Solarium, and it too was very well managed and efficient; probably because it was under the same management as Monte Carlo. But it is about 15 minutes away, and I wouldn’t go back on a Sunday when tends to get so damn crowded. The girls were friendly, but my beef was that the truly hot looking ones were preoccupied.

LUOMO

This is another highly regarded Terma that is located in a shopping center in Copacabana. I went to LUOMO on a weekday. It’s a very nice place facility-wise, but I did not choose a girl. My most memorable thing there was that I couldn’t shake an ugo despite desperate smoke blowing. I hung out for about an hour and found a couple of good looking ones in here, but they were with other guys. There were about 20 girls when I went, and they had a strip show type of act in the BOITE. The girls were generally good looking here, which got me scratching my head as to why I was assigned the only ugo in the place.

4X4

This place is huge, with multiple stories. It’s in downtown and a lot of guys – Americans and locals were there when I went on a Friday. I had the bad luck of going on the Friday before Memorial day and this place quickly morphed into a claustrophobic zoo; jammed packed with guys and girls, in a really small, confined Boite area (there was a bigger Boite upstairs but not a lot of people up there for some reason). I didn’t like the narrow hallways and the small bathroom and shower facilities. The girls were the best part, with tons of blondes for some reason, many good looking ones but it was difficult to find an opening in the sea of sweaty bodies to make my move, let alone establish eye contact. I almost got in a fight because some idiot kept stepping on my toes. The rooms were tiny, with a shower stall. There were at least 50 girls in the small boite. I don’t think I’ll go back during a weekend again, only weekdays.

Notwithstanding the mass of humanity, I did manage to hook up with a girl while we were both going up for air in the sea of humanity. Her name was ELESA MARIA, who would not let me photograph her due to some bad experiences she had with someone posting her photos on the internet. AEROPUERTO

I went to this place on weekday and had a blast. This place was where I had two dupla experiences on two different days. Again, none of the girls here would let me photograph them because of some bad experiences of being posted on the internet (any guy breaking the sacred goal of not showing our posted photos to gals should be tarred, feathered and hung by his dick). The dupla sessions were awesome! Very experienced girls (late 20s) going at me full throttle – licking me everywhere, animated fucking, BBBJs, sucking everywhere. This was the closest experience to EDEN for Thai Hobbyist, but EDEN girls and the EDEN experience cannot be duplicated in my view; although it was close.

There were about 40 other girls who were mostly average looking, but there were 2 standouts lounging around in the sauna area (the boite is extremely small here so the girls sit in the lounge sofas by the sauna area downstairs). The facilities were decent, but not as nice as other places. Most of the guys here were locals, with some guys looking like your local, friendly mafiosos (greased hair, gold chains, chain smoking, and bad attitudes).

TERMA 65

Terma 65 is in downtown and is located on multiple stories. Very nice locker and shower facilities, with a nice boite. I went on a weekday, around 3:30 p.m. and the place was empty. I knew why because the girls were less than awe-inspiring. About ten girls, lazily lounging around, munching on peanuts, and reminiscent of certain hoofed herbivores. I high-tailed it out of there and went to Aeropuerto. In all fairness, there may have been other girls coming later since I visited the place at around 3:30 p.m.

CENTAURAUS

I was warned by many, but had to try this place out for myself. I didn’t like this place. It’s the only place that required a substantial deposit of 290 reals (305 reals if paying by credit) and there’s no way of knowing how they itemized the bill. In fact, when I checked out, they told me I had to pay another 40 reals for some drinks on top of the 305 reals. “So what’s the 305 reals for” I asked the lady up front, she shot back an icy stare and started firing off some wicked Portuguese. Whatever! It’s a nice setup and there were some decent looking girls, nothing outstanding. I did go with one girl named “Maria” (not sure of the name).

One notable thing about the place is that there is a separate lounge to wait for the rooms. These lounges had reclining seats and a chair next to it so you can get to know the girls while waiting. As I noted, I waited about 30 minutes for a room, and the room soon filled up quickly with guys and girls waiting for a room.

HELP DISCO AND THE FREELANCERS

Help is a huge disco with a nice, modern set up in terms of lights and configuration. The music was great and I picked up 6 CDS which were sold by the DJs. There were easily over 200 girls on the weekends, a 2 girl to 1 guy ratio. Weekdays ratios are better (3 gals to 1 guy) and fewer people. Most of the girls were freelancers, but some were taking time off from Termas or other discos. I’d say the majority of the girls are average, but a few real lookers can be found. I was disappointed that the lookers were all taken out very early, as the night gets late, the quality went noticeably down.

I managed to pickup a girl each of the nights at HELP. It was truly a hit or miss type of thing, on two occasions, I had a part-time secretary and the other was a college girl who obviously seemed less experienced and shy in bed. On three occasions, I had programa girls and even an off-duty call girl who took me on with passion and relish. On another two occasions, I was shocked at a girl who disrobed to show C-section marks, cellulite and sagging tits – I sent it home.

The thrill of the HELP is that although the girls are working, you get the sensation that you’re actually “hunting” for your night’s lay, how our Monger ancestors must have done it while evading Mastodan. I’ve seen some guys get turned down, as did I by a few prima donnas. But if the girls like you, it’s really easy to make eye contact, and some girls will stand close to you or ask a question if they like you. If you smoke, like me, they often asked for a cigarette and we would start a conversation that way. I thought being older made it easier because some late 50s Mongers picked up so effortlessly, but it turned out that these vets knew most of the girls they picked up from prior experiences.

Thailand has a lot of great discos, but the one that is closest to HELP is a place in PATTAYA called “Tony’s disco”. This is where all the freelancers congregate and you need the same “hunting” skills to bag that nights’ lay. A lot of cute girls in their late teens and early 20s at Tony’s and the disco is just as nicely set up as HELP.

LOVE MOTEL

As I noted, I picked up a hot looking girl named Monique at HELP, where she moonlights during the weekday, but her day job is as a call girl. Monique said the call girl agencies rip off the girls and the clients by charging 300 reals a pop and pocketing 2/3 of it. For this reason, she also told me that most of the call girls work at Help anyway and charge about 200 reals, so it’s best to go to HELP to pickup. I picked her up at HELP, but not before she gave a couple younger guys the boot (she was with 2 other hotties from her call girl agency). The Love motels are truly a very well thought out and elegant facility located in strategic areas of RIO. These places were designed to facilitate illicit affairs. The parking stalls each have a separate cubicle with a garage door to hide your vehicle. From the garage, you go straight up to an elegantly and opulently furnished room, each furnished with the nicest bed, tons of mirrors, Jacuzzi, dining area with champagne and fine china, his/her robes, tv, etc. All the transactions takes place while in your car or they come up to your suite to collect payments—so conceivably, you don’t have to see any other patron if you want. Service was stellar and you get the royal treatment. I paid 100 reals for six hours and had their standard suite. I can’t imagine what their deluxe or higher standard facilities would be like.

MEIA PATECA & THE BEACH GIRLS

We often hung out at the famed MEIA PATECA restaurant and at the beach area in front, but did not find any good looking women. MOISE was one of the “barkers” at the beach and he would set me up each day with a chair, beer, and a girl. He overcharged us and generally bothered us one time too many. Some girls were sunbathing topless, but nothing spectacular. A lot of the gals at MEIA PATECA and the beach were seen later in the evenings working at help. But these two areas are a good place just to sit back and people watch. Some girls were hot, but most at MEIA PATECA and the beach were not.

SUPPORT GROUP/RESOURCES

RIO is an excellent destination in that it is “newbie” friendly resort town with a lot of fellow hombres for a support network and lots of excellent reference tools. When I was there, I must have met at least 5 posters from this board and an even greater number from other boards or non-posters. There is always a RIO vet in town to show around the NEWBIE. It’s also very easy to meet other Hobbyists in the Termas, the beach, restaurants, hotel lobby, etc. I also heard there is a great guide for RIO, i.e. DON from RIOTRIPS who can show you around for a fee. I didn’t use these services and believe they are not as essential as one might think, I managed nicely by just tagging along with some vets or going to places myself. RIO is not difficult to get around. Always take an address printed out or a business card to return to your hotel since a lot of the cabbies don’t know where certain hotels and termas are located.

A very good resource was UWPHOTO’s RIO cheatsheet which has the addresses and websites for everything you need to know in RIO. BWANA DIKS RIO guide was also extremely helpful as was ATHOS’s trip report.

Thailand has some excellent reports to orient the hobbyist, but no cheat sheets or guides to show you around town. Because of its distance, there aren’t as many posters in town as I found in RIO. Thailand requires a lot more resourcefulness, thought and energy to get around.

PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE

Portuguese is a very beautiful, elegant and melodic language, with some similarity to Spanish. I noticed a lot of “sh” and “ch” sounds. I’m motivated to learn it. My Spanish is decent, and I found that I could communicate rudimentary thoughts to them and understand a little of the Portuguese. For instance, Cuando Abre? When does it open? Or Se “Loco” was understood. I love the words “Se Bom” or “Ta Bom” which means its good (in Spanish “Es Bien”) What an awesome language when you repeatedly hear “Da Bom” and their Friday’s are called” “Sexto” ! The numbers 1 through 6 are very similar to Spanish, but pronounced different (i.e. Dos sounds like “Doish”), and seven, eight and nine are slightly different but recognizable.

Forget about learning the THAI language, its probably the linguistic opposite of English if ever there was one. It is very difficult to learn as there are obviously no similarities with English. But one thing very interesting to me was that I found more Thais who speak and write minimal English than the Cariocas (RIO residents). Perhaps it is the education system that stresses this or the fact that I usually hang out at tourist type of areas in Thailand where they should speak a few words of English. All the massage places and the go-gos have either a mamasan or someone that speaks English, many Taxi drivers also understood bare minimal English. This was not the case in RIO, very few taxi drivers spoke English and some Terma receptionists didn’t speak English.

SAFETY CONCERNS:

I was a bit concerned about safety before coming to RIO, especially when my first stop was to a bank, which had at least six armed guards armed to the teeth. But after a week, I only saw 2 episodes of petty crime, and felt safe walking from HELP disco to Debret (2 blcks) in the wee hours of the night. The two episodes involved a speedy Gonzales kid who took off with some tourist’s wallet that was lying around in the beach area near Hotel OTHON. The kid got away despite the fact that about 20 people were chasing him. The other episode involved a shoeshine kid who amazingly squirted “bird goo” type of stuff on a guy’s show from about 10 feet away. The tourist grabbed the kid by the shirt and was yelling and screaming at the kid before bystanders broke it up. Also, while walking along Atlantico Ave, I was accosted by kids selling pot, and one shady guy seemed to be following me around. In sum, I don’t think RIO is a place where you’ll get hurt or killed, but there seems to be a lot of petty property crimes. Be careful and use your common sense.

Thailand is absolutely safe, except for the idiot police occasionally pulling tourist over every once in awhile to get bribes. I’ve walked around at 4:00 a.m., drunk as a skunk, and felt safe in areas of NANA plaza.

VISAS AND TRAVEL ISSUES

Getting a Brazil visa was a pain in the ass. I downloaded the form from the Brazilian Consulate website (CH has a good link), took a passport photo, and 110 dollars and headed down to the Beverly Hills branch of the Brazilian consulate. After waiting about 45 minutes, I dropped the visa application off, along with my passport, and was told to come back in a week . I did this visa thing 3x because I couldn’t make my earlier flights to RIO, the Visas expire within 3 months if you do not use it and you need to get it reissued. Once you use it within the 90 days of issuance, it is good for 5 years.

Traveling to RIO from LAX was an ordeal, despite the fact that I flew United Biz class and First class. I flew 5 hours from LA to Dulles, then about 8 hours from Dulles to Sao Paulo, and then an hour from Sao Paulo to RIO. I spoke with other guys and they all stated that most of them had 3 stops – (1) home to Dulles or Miami or Houston (2) #1 to Sao Paulo (3) #2 to RIO. Three stops means waiting and taking off three times just to get to RIO. The biz seats on United are probably one of the best in the business, lots of gadgets, very roomy, reclines about 160 degrees, nice adjustable headrests, adjustable foot and leg rests. The comfortable seats permitted me to actually sleep most of the way to and from RIO, which makes the time go fast.

From LA, the trip to BKK is actually a lot easier. No visa’s to worry about, and there are only 2 stops (one stop for about an hour in Tokyo or Osaka). All the stopping and taking off really tires me out. The difference in the Asia routes is that the planes are all the newer 747’s, whereas my plane to Brazil was widebody 767.

HOTEL DEBRET.

Hotel Debret was great since it was in the middle of everything, oceanfront, 2 blocks from HELP, 3 blocks from MEIA PATECA, 1 block from Copacabana Ave (with a lot of restaurants and shops). I visited a buddy at the RIO ROISS and found it to have nicer rooms, but a bit farther from HELP disco and about ½ block to the beach.
Debret had small rooms (30x40?), especially the space I was in, which was oceanfront. The elevator and the hallways are small, and I had some wacky Portuguese guy next door who partied all hours of the night. The service at Debret was excellent, and there is a nice bar and lounge area on the 2nd floor. I did not wake up for any of the breakfasts, but I heard the restaurant on the top floor was decent.

I am going to Rio in August so I was very interested in your Rio/Thailand comparisons. Some very good information I will use when I go on my trip.

One question. Does Hotel Debret have room safes or just safety deposit boxes? Would you feel safe leaving a laptop in the room during the day while you are out?

Great report! I was in Bangkok and Pattaya in 2000 and Rio this past Jan. I think your comparisons are right on the mark.

I am looking for flights right now for Brazil in August and I though this was an excellent report. The only disagreement I have or difference in perspective is with regards to Thai girls and GFE. I have never had a covered BJ in Thailand and all of the girls give DFK. The only exception to this are new girls who do not know how to French kiss or give head. In that case, you either have to teach them or take a pass. I am really on the hunt for morenas and mulattas but I noticed that 90% of the garotas on this board look like white Europeans with die-blonde hair. Is this look the norm or are their enough morena hotties to go around? If I want a girl who looks "American", I can get that without leaving the U.S>,,,they're everywhere in California.

Also, you mentioned flying on United. I've been looking for a good carrier, and usually fly American, but the prices are $600 to $800. Did you use miles or an outright purchase.

Thanks guys, let me answer some questions:

Xen: Hotel Debret had safes in the room, but the old fashioned type with funny looking metal keys. These safes have seen better days. It didn't look sturdy or high tech like the ones in BKK, but it did the job as I kept my plane tix and good amount of cash with no problems. Debret was anal about security so I really didn't worry too much. I also travelled with my laptop and left it out in the open for 1 week with no problems. I did have a local friend comment that laptops are immensely expensive (U.S. $5-6K) so I should be careful.

Blazers: there are tons of mullatas and darker skin girls all over, but not so many in the Termas. Help disco and the MEITA PATECA is the place for you. As for DFK & BBBJ in Thailand, don't get me wrong, I do get a good amount of it, but just not as much as in RIO. Perhaps its my strong preference for massages that skews my experiences. You'll really love it there.

Calboy, you definitely need a VISA prior to even boarding the plane to RIO. It's a pain in the ass! For the plane Tx, I purchase an upgradable fare and then upgrade using the miles, this is the best and most efficient use of miles if you ask me. I never fly American simply because I have FF miles on Star Alliance (United) or Continental.

Excellent report Merlin. I too really want to try Rio, and I appreciate your comparison with Thailand, especially given my predilection for spinners. The only area I'd differ on is that I agree with Blazers. When in Thailand, I can only recall two covered blowjobs, the rest were bareback. And I have about an 80-90% success ratio with the DFK; I occasionally run into a girl who won't do it, but not often.

Now that you've done Rio, are you going to alternate mongering trips between LOS and Rio?

I'm going to be doing the reverse of what you did within 2-3 months. I've been to Rio 13-15 times and will be going to BKK for the first time in July or September or both. Great comparative perspective. I'm going to start doing my BKK research now, and your report is a great start. Currently, there are 81 Thailand reports. Merlin, great comparative report. Ive been to LOS and Brazil once each, and in general your comparisons were pretty accurate in my experience, although my preferences differ from yours, I go more for the Brazilian body types over the Thai. Although some of my Thai providers were very energetic when at work, I found the Brasileiras in general to be more passionate, and really into sex than the Thais as a rule. Nonetheless, as you say, each place is a different sector of heaven.

To those Rio newbies asking about morenas and mulattas, if thats what youre looking for, theres plenty to be found. You ocan truly find any color and shape of woman you want in Rio. For an even larger concentration of darker ones, one may want to visit the NE, e.g. Fortaleza or Recife, or Bahia, where the majority of the population is black/mullata. Another bit of advice for newbies in Rio is either to travel with a Rio vet, or hire a "guide" such as Don. It will save you a lot of time and frustration by cutting out the majority of the bad experiences that can be had, and maximizing your pleasurable times. Especially if you have particular preferences in mind as to body type, or services rendered. You can more easily pre-screen for your preferences w/o going hit or miss.

One more thing, RE: finding morenas, you may be more likely to find a bigger selection at 4 x 4, which has more girls in general, than most termas, and consequently more morena types. There are also plenty to be found at Help and the Terrace Cafe.

Soccer, just to clarify on the Thailand trip reports, my 2001 report, Kicks below the Waistline didn't have many photos, but had a lot of newbie oriented info. My 2003 report, Still the one, is packed with photos and a lot of info, but is more targeted towards the veteran. But I recommend them both, in addition to both of Xen's reports. He sets the gold standard for solid information.

Next trip from LAX check flights with VARIG (Star Alliance with United) All of the internet special tickets are direct from LAX to San Paulo to Rio. No stop in the States. Did this for my July trip. And if you book an award flight early enough with United you can get the same. Doing this for my Nov. 2003 My Nov. trip. The 13.5 hours is much better than the flights stopping in Dullus or Chicago.

DJ: there really wasn't a LT type of thing that I noticed, the termas have either a 40 min. or 1 hr. option and help disco gals stayed on avg about 2-3 hrs, one stayed about 4 hrs.

Outstanding report. I've been waiting for this one ever since you mentioned the trip was on. I've read a lot of the other reports but never realized that overcrowding could be an issue in the Termas - the last thing I want is having some guy rubbing up against me - I get that on the subway every day to the office. I was with a couple of people at the Blue Marlin and had to leave after two hours because it just got too tight. That's what I love about Thailand - everything is wide open from the bars to the golf courses. It's like your own kingdom. I know I'll try Rio eventually, hopefully hook up with a vet, but for now my sights are locked on Bangkok (next trip - last week in August)

Merlin, what a great comparison between probably the world's two formost spots for guys.

I stayed at the Debret in the Lujo rooms facing the beach. Tenth floor. I wouldn't do it again because of the nonstop traffic noise. To sleep I would crack up the A/C, turn on some white noise from this sound machine I took with me, and wear ear plugs. Except for motorcycles everything was pretty much filtered out.

I checked out the rooms at Rio Roiss and thought they were far better. Even the standard room was much larger and the suite was huge. The guy at the desk gave me a fantastic price for a return trip that was just a bit over the 192 Reales a day that I was paying at the Debret.

I forgot to ask if there was a free breakfast like at the Debret. The later one was pretty darn good the days I made it. Two kinds of juice, milk, coffee, eggs, ham, sausage, cereal, a variety of different breads, cheese, salami, several kinds of fresh fruit, and a few more items. They did try and stick a 17 R charge on my final bill for coffee which I contested since I never drink the stuff. The view was fastastic and a great way to start the day. I would just sit next to the window with a smile from the last day's activities and occassionally wipe the drool that was coming down my chin. No one seemed to care accept one woman who said something to her hubby and they moved to another table. Fuck 'em if they couldn't dig it. She was probably a witch and he was pussy whipped.

tight fit, I'm staying at the Rio Roiss now.Yes they do have a buffet breakfast from 7;00 to 11;00.

I too am a diehard LOS hobbyist and recently returned from a 4-day virgin trip to Rio (over the Memorial Day weekend). I was going to post a short BKK vs. GIG report that I had put together during my layover in Miami but, having just read your report, I think I will pass because I don’t want to be accused of plagiarizing. It’s uncanny how close your report is to what I had typed up, including your description of termas as a little bit of Eden Club, a little bit of the go-go bars, and a little bit of the soapies....

Here are some additional thoughts, for the benefit of other LOS hobbyists who want to check out Rio:

(1) If you haven’t been to Rio, then you should check it out.
(2) I live in Los Angeles. I mailed the visa application, passport, passport photo, a money order for $110, and a return addressed envelope to the consulate in Beverly Hills on a Monday and got my passport -- with a 5-year tourist visa stamped -- back on Saturday.
(3) I stayed at Hotel Debret. The room was a little small, but clean. Most importantly, this hotel is very strategically located – (i) 2 short blocks from Help and (ii) across from the Alcazar restaurant, where Rio vets congregate every afternoon around 1:00 p.m. A great place to stay for your first visit.
(4) I met Don and Karl from Riotrips at L’uomo. They are both great guys and if you require a bit of handholding, by all means use their service. I also ran into several CH members in Rio, including Bia’s boyfriend(!) Cortogringo … all great guys.
(5) I was supposed to leave Rio on Memorial Day, but got bumped by American Airlines. I got a $400 voucher (which I shall use on my next trip to Rio) and a business class upgrade. Sweet. The funniest thing was that of the dozen or so passengers who got bumped that evening, more than half were hobbyists. We all had a good laugh at the airport, before taking a cab back to L'uomo.
(6) Termas. I liked the ability to interact (i.e., make out) with the garotas in the boite. A long wait for a cabin or suite? More time to make out. You can’t really do that at fishbowl-type soapies (in certain high-end soapies like the Poseidon (Model Floor) and Delilah—my favorites—you can have civilized conversations at your table but you certainly can’t be swapping saliva), and you can do that only to a very limited degree at go-go bars. The Eden Club comes close, but it's not quite the same. On the other hand, I found the termas to be quite small. Yes, there were lots of swordfighting on Friday at 4X4 and on Sunday at L’uomo.
(7) The brazileras are wild. Pretty much anything goes. If Hershey Highway is your thing, then go to Brazil (although you can certainly get it at the Eden Club, and some Thai babes will do it). Five of the 7 garotas I "met" offered it, and I didn't ask.
(8) I only had time for lessons 1-18 on Pimsleur Portuguese prior to my trip, but had no problem communicating. If you speak a little Spanish, that helps. It’s fun conversing (or trying to converse) in a mix of English, Spanish and Portuguese. I'm sure you could probably have more fun if you speak the language.
(9) The only time I felt a little dangerous in Rio was when I was walking from 4X4 to Terma 65 around 9:30 p.m. I wouldn't do that again, solo.
(10) Yes, the famous shit scam happened to me on my first day in Rio, near Help. Those shoe shine boys are fast.
(11) I tried the metro to go to the downtown termas from Copacapana. It was great. Like taking the sky train to go to CPII in Bangkok. I always used the yellow taxi in Rio and every single one of the drivers used the meter.
(12) Brazil is closer, especially for the east coast guys, than Thailand. I ran into several hobbyist from Miami who make it down to Rio 2-3 times a month. Lucky bastards. From Los Angeles, it was 14-15 hours to Rio (via Miami) (vs. 18-19 hours to Thailand). One thing I should add is that the service on the Asian airlines (I’ve flown on Cathay Pacific, EVA, KAL, and JAL) is generally much better. American Airlines, while adequate, just wasn't up to par. How about a hot face towel, especially after a red-eye flight?

Comparing Thailand and Brazil is indeed like comparing apples and oranges. I can totally see myself alternating between the two.

Sugadaddy, you have some great additional insights, which I totally agree with.

I found the comments above about crowding at termas vs. BKK venues interesting. Perhaps I was just there at a slow time (Nov), but the only termas where I ever felt crowded was 4 x 4 after 6 PM (so I usually went there prior to 5) and once at Solarium on couples night, one amorous couple was hogging one of only two hot showers for a long time, which provided entertainment for several brazilian men waiting, who were putting their faces up to the door to try to get a peek inside.

At the same time, Ive encountered wall to wall mongers in the Long Gun, the Thermae, a few Nana Plaza venues as well. I've also been to BKK fishbowl massage parlors after 9 PM when all the interesting girls were taken, with only a small % of the girls in the fishbowl.

One distressing thing that sometimes happens in the more upscale massage parlors of BKK that I never encountered in Brazil was a feeling of unwelcomeness toward farangs, being charged a higher farang price (no, Ive never been to Centaurus)and having to wait until the Thai businessmen made their choice of girls before being allowed to choose.

Despite the stereotypical view in the American media of hostility toward gringos, I never felt any hint of unwelcomeness in any venue there. None of these remarks is intended as a slam against LOS - I had a great time there, and may go back again sometime. I will probably return to Brazil first.

Great comparison. I wonder, why are there so many girls in Thailand? They have much less customers? They make less money? or there are so many more customers in Thailand???

But definitely, I wish there was a Nana Plaza in Rio! it is hard work to find a girl in Rio that is young, has no baby, no sagging tits, and is reasonably priced. No place where you can find 20 bars with 50 topless girls each withing 2 minute's walk.

Too bad you did not venture the 1 block from Hotel Debret to visit me in my apartment to exchange ideas. You could have learned about a few more girl ventures that are used more by locals!!

don¡¯t think it¡¯s a slam on Thailand. Nor should my comments about RIO termas be construed similarly. Constructive observations are important. I agree that some upscale massages can be snooty, but I¡¯ve seen them be snooty to even their own. It¡¯s just the poor Thai business practices that is so common. Also, although it¡¯s true there can be crowds in some go-gos and bars, the difference I notice is that in Thailand, you can go to a crowded bar like Rainbow II or Happy go-gos around 1am and still find 50 or more girls dancing on the stage. In some Termas, they can literally make you wait for a girl and a room during busy times. Also, don¡¯t get me wrong about the congestion at the Termas, it was pleasant before the hectic memorial day weekend. I just will plan more carefully around the holidays, and when I go to 4x4 or Luomo or Solarium on Sunday.

Brazil Specialist: I wish we could have hooked up, but perhaps next time. I agree that VISA policies are a function of foreign policy, we were reminded of this by the Consulate in Los Angeles and the internet

Soprano: There are some great discussions on the "Brazil" section of the chatroom under Rio Hotels. I was at the Debret a week. There were some annoyances but no major problems per se. I booked a double room (w/2 beds) but they still charged me 50 reals each time I brought a girl up. You cannot bring 2 girls to Debret. When a girl checks in, they keep her ID there and they call you when she leaves to make sure everything is fine.

Is there some hotel or motel called VIP ?

Soprano, I know you from reading some of your posts about CR and know that you have done much to help others with info on the Morazan. Just my opinion, but I liked the rooms at the Debret much better than at the Roiss. Get a deluxe room with ocean view and one bed. To me, the view is worth staying there vs. the Rio Roiss.
No problems with guests other than a R50 charge and no more than one guest at a time. I can't remember what the Roiss charges for guests, but do remember that they did charge me, also only one guest at a time. I asked why the one guest policy at both hotels and both told me was because if they had problems with the girls it was almost always when there were two of them in the room, theft, fights, etc. I also felt more comfortable walking back to the Debret late at night than I did the Roiss. The Roiss is set back one block from Avenida Atlantica and Debret is right on the corner. The area between Help and Debret has better lighting than the are between Help and the Roiss. Never made it to breakfast at either one, but they both have free from like 6AM to 10AM. Never needed anything more from front desk people than "heres my key" and "heres my girl, I need my key" and in both
hotels no one gave me any problems at all. They both call the room to check on you when the girl leaves. A friend of mine knocked the phone off the hook-he had a really wild time-and since they couldn't contact him by phone, they sent someone up to the room to check on him before releasing the girl-this happened at the Debret.
Debret is next to the prime meeting place(Alcazar Restaurant) of CH members and Don of RioTrips-people I highly recommend hooking up with if you are first time visitor and don't know anyone else. Rioss is next to the cambio and Bobby's Blame it on Rio travel agency. Rioss is on one end of the Meia Petaca, Help Discoteca, Terraza Atlantico, Restaurante Alcazar strip of Avenida Atlantico and the Debret is on the other. You can walk between the two hotels in less than 10 minutes.
VIPs is a "love motel". You can check out their
prices, pics of rooms, etc on their site. Can find the site under the links section of CH. I am just barely out of the Rio newbie stage myself, but I hope this helps you.

Soprano, they did charge me even though I paid for a double. I believe the charge the 50 real during the holiday, and something lower at other times. Since it was my first time there, I don't know if this was a one time policy or what.

But I agree with Costaricardo, despite the minor things, I would strongly recommend Debret for its central location and the awesome beachfront views.

P.S. I've also been to CR several times and loved staying at the Morazon. But RIO will blow you away.

I paid for a single and was charged. From what I understand from other posts if you pay for a double you are still charged.

I just got back from Rio.Stayed a week at the Rio Roiss.I booked a double room,and was not charged for one guest.They have a policy against bringing 2 back.

Soprano, I booked through BlameItonRio.com and felt that they have more pull with the hotels because they book a lot of reservations (volume discounts?). My friend tried to do it himself on the internet, but Debret did not send out confirmations. I would email BlameItOnRio and also RioTrips to compare.

Brazil Specialist: I re-read your comment about why there are so many working girls in Thailand as opposed to Brazil. There is obviously no simple answer but I did observe one difference about the working girls in Brazil vs. Thailand. As I noted, many Thai girls are young, unmarried and out to support their parents and siblings. I've met mamasans who go up north and clear out an entire village to staff a go-go, all with the parents knowledge and support. I've even met a working girl in Pattaya who was told to work by her parents. Taking care of one's elders, is a high virtue among the Asians and Thais, who are predominantly Buddhists. By comparison, in my travels to Latin and South America, girls generally work to support their kids. And the strong Catholic influence in Latin and South America should not be underestimated.
There is also a stronger money differential in Thailand. A working girls in Thailand can make more in a couple of days (2-3K baht) than what an average, blue collar worker can make in a month.
I'd be interested in what other Hombres think.

Great read Merlin thanks. Being a Thai lover I have a few notes to share with you. I agree with your observation about the family support issue being the main reason there are so many working girls in Thailand. It is the resposibility of the females, especially if unmaried to take care of their parents. Often the unmarried or broken marriage ladies have children that their mother takes care of so they are supporting both of them. If a girl stays in a good marriage and does not become a working girl her suport is dedicated to her husbands family, so the unmarried sister gets to cover the costs. The Thai males if married, support their own parents with their wives help, not the in laws. The discrepancy in poverty levels between haves and have nots is so great and the ability of a working girl to earn a substantial wage in comparison to cost of living draws them into the work in such great numbers.
One thing noticeable from your report by it's abscence, is the cost factors. The only insight i got from the read, unless I missed someting, was that it was about 300 Reais (?) for short time, or about 100 US dollars. Is this correct? If it is, the dollar difference is crazy in terms of bang for the buck ( excuse the pun). 100 USD in Thailand is 4300 baht today. or enough to take 3 or 4 ladies ( from a beer bar or disco for example, no bar fine ) over 3 or 4 nights for the entire night and still have enough left over to buy them each diner. So, given the difference in plane fare costs between US to Rio and US to BBK, you get more mileage by coming to Asia.
Correct me if I am mistaken about the finances here.

Kenny g4, excellent and fascinating insights into the working girls of Thailand. It seems that you are similarly interested in all aspects of Thai culture and people.

As for the cost, you're right, I didn't discuss it too much in my report and should have. The Termas charge about 160-200 reals (total), except for Centaurus which charged 290; and the HELP disco girls also charged between 150-200 reals. So it's more like $50-$80 dollars for the girls really; rather than the $100.00. This is still higher than what you pay from Thailand, which is 1K baht to 2000 baht.

The plane fares were about equal to both destinations, but getting a ticket (let alone an upgrade) to RIO is much harder than it is to BKK. It's a very popular destination, especially during the holidays. The cost of hotels in RIO were higher about $50/day at the Debret. Food and Taxi costs were also higher than in Thailand.

Thanks for the clarification. Rio is on my list, but first I need to kick the Thai addiction. Working in Asia makes it too easy to get to and too hard to leave. and really, for all that, who would NOT want to keep going back.

Not too mention the great value in the experience of Thai culture.

I've been to Thailand many times but not yet to Rio. This is a disgrace as I am a Samba player with a bateria.(Cuica). I can't think of how many years I have been interested in Brasil but never got there. I am a little jaded with my Thai experience so i am looking for something new. The only thing about Rio is that I may get so involved with the music I would probably forget about the girls !! Must getting on in years ??

Samba includes virtually naked garotas shaking their asses so you I don't think you have to be afraid of forgetting the girls.
The lyrics are about nothing else too, great way to improve your language skills.
