Getting around in Bangkok can be a hassle, especially during rush hour. Between 7 and 9 am and 4 to 7 pm, don't even think about getting into a taxi to go anywhere..sky train only.
TAXIS:
The only dark cloud that hangs over my trip is dealing with taxi drivers. They all have meters but many want to scam you out of money. If they are waiting in front of your hotel or are stationary...DONT USE THEM. Always use taxi's in motion as they are usually the ones whom use their meter. If you get in the car and he gives you a flat fee, get out and catch the next cab. The only time this rule does not apply is during high season when there might be a shortage of taxis..then they have the leverage and you want to get home. Taxis are cheap so use them freely but do not use them to go to massage parlors except for CP2 and a few others.
TUK TUKS:
Only use them to get around the temples on your first trip to say that you road in a tuk tuk. After that, try not to use them. They are the biggest cockroaches in Asia. They will try to take you to jewelry stores and tailors and to massage parlors....all at huge commissions..
SKY TRAIN:
The most efficient way of getting around, especially for shopping. The closest stop to your hotel will be at the Nana Stop. Get a guide/map and it will tell you which stops take you to Soi Cowboy, Patpong, Soi 33 and all of shopping centers. You can pay for individual trips or get a daily pass for 100 baht. You can also get a 3 day pass for 280 pass(best deal). If you are traveling to Patpong, remember that you must get out at the Siam transfer center and take the bus headed for Sala Daeng.
MOTORBIKES:
If you want to live, do not use these guys. They drive like maniacs and could care less if they live or die.
