For the record, I’m a single, white male, 38 years old and live in Manhattan. I have a working knowledge of Menu Spanish and the Hispanic super in my building calls me “Papi” and I call him “Senor Panama”, so fluent I’m not. But I can make myself understood. I’ve been to Thailand twice in the last 6 months, and in a perfect world, the trip wouldn’t take 24 hours from New York. Each way. But it does, so Bangkok is not an option for a three-day weekend. But at 5 hours from Newark to San Jose non-stop on Continental ($364 roundtrip) San Jose is certainly a weekend option. I’ve read all the reports and postings and knew better than to compare San Jose to Bangkok. What I wanted was to get out of New York and come back feeling refreshed. My first trip to San Jose accomplished both. Here is my story.

WallStreet:
I, too, am in Manhattan.
Recently, I've been looking for a 3-day jaunt to somewhere, but airline prices have been a put-off.
Thanks for posting this.
