Made my first trip to BA the last week of June, for 10 delightful days. Returned this week to the usual ton of work, so I'm a little late in posting.

I think you guys are all experienced BA hobbyists, so I don't imagine there's much a newbie like myself is gonna tell you about your favorite city. But, I do have some current info and maybe some things that you guys haven't tried yet.

I stayed in an apartment in Recoleta, Parera 156. I booked it through Mayra at Argentinago. It was $80 USD per night, which is a little pricey, but that included the VAT, or whatever they call it in BA. So, basically, it's equivalent to the Diplomatic suite at the Etiole if you factor in the tax. I had the entire 8th floor to myself. There are 4 bedrooms, livingroom, diningroom and kitchen. There's even a washing machine, which came in handy in the humid BA climate, constantly changing clothes. Maid service every day with clean towels, and then clean sheets twice a week. I think the chicas seem to prefer it to a hotel. The porter is very cool, no problem with chicas coming and going at all hours. We had quite a party there on Friday, calling in chicas from La Nacion. It's almost too much for one person, but it's big enough that 2 guys could go in on it together, since the two main bedrooms are at opposite ends of the floor. It's also a great neighborhood. Parera is a very quiet residential street, and yet it's just a 10 minute walk to the heart of Recoleta.

Ironically, I arrived on the same day that Zappaman was leaving and we ended up having lunch together with Roxana and Mayra. I visited Madahos that night and Black, PlayWoman, Hook, Salome and Ciceron on subsequent nights. This is my first time in BA, so I have no frame of reference, but I think I can safely say that the rumors of the death of Buenos Aires as a mongering capital are greatly exaggerated. There are still plenty of beautiful chicas in BA. I will say, though, that the bloom is definately off the rose. Those heady post-devaluation days are gone. The dollar is down and the chicas are starting to wise up.

As far as the clubs go, I was greatly underwhelmed by Black. My impression was that it was full of stunningly beautiful women, but the night I was there, I couldn't see that the chicas there were any better than any of the other clubs. They are appealing to a different clientele, so they package themselves differently, but in terms of physical pulchritude, nothing special.

It appears that Affaire is closed and there is a new club next door called Ciceron. The talent there looked pretty good, IMHO. I would say that Madahos is the top of the line, in terms of venue, quality and quantity of the chicas right now.

I actually found myself attracted to Salome. It's a tiny little place, but it has the atmosphere of a neighborhood bar, which I liked. I found that if you get there before midnight, there is actually quite a nice selection of chicas. Some of them could rival those at the Recoleta clubs. There is one there in particular, who works as a bartender/hostess who is a real knockout. The chica I was with said that you might be able to take her out, but it would be "muy complicado".

I did end up taking one chica out of there. Her name was Soy (as in "Yo soy") I'm afraid I probably paid too much, (permiso, Andres). But she was willing to leave at midnight and was with me until 7:00am. I guess it was just a case of the spirit to negociate was willing, but the flesh was weak. She told me that all the girls at this club have to be back at the club at 7:00am. Can anyone confirm that, or was she just feeding me a line?

Something I noticed is that there is no strict hierarchy of chicas in BA. I was under the impression that Black was the top and then you worked your way down through Recoleta, microcenter, etc. What I discovered is that beautiful chicas are where you find them in BA, and you can find them anywhere. And the amount of money you pay has nothing to do with your experience. If anything, there seems to be an inverse relationship.

I also visited the Periplo, which I also liked. Probably for the same reasons that I liked Salome. Neighborhood bar kind of atmoshphere, quiet place, can hear yourself think. The bartender there actually knows how to mix a drink. And all the tapas you can eat, although I'd stay away from the ones with the mayonaise.

There is a small selection of chicas there, typically late 20's, early 30's. It's $25 pesos to buy them a drink, of which they get $5. They are independant of the bar, so whatever you negotiate with them is just between you and the chica. Also, a little tidbit if info, all the chicas who work at the Periplo are required to have a medical examination every 3 months.

I ended up taking one little gem out of there at 2:00am on a Thursday night/Friday morning. It was $200 TLN, no time limit.

I also tried a couple internet chicas, Evy from Escortsbaires and Julieta from Platynum. I will post about them in their respective sections.

The last weekend I was there, I met a chica from La Nacion. her name is Pamela and she is an absolute sweetheart. She comes from one of the provinces up north and she's only been in the business for 5 months. She charges the least of all, $70 pesos/hour, and, IMHO, the best one I met all week. The problem with her is that she is working for an agency and they watch her time very carefully. I tried to get her for TLN, but she wouldn't do it without the agency and their calculation went something like, 12 hours x $70 per hour = $840 pesos. I tried to explain to the woman at the agency that $300 pesos would be better than nothing, but she could not be budged, so, she got nothing. Pamela's agency number is 4783-4446 if you want to check her out.

So, I had a great time, and now I am in BA withdrawal. Not sure when I'll be able to get back there again. Thanks to everyone who has posted before, I never would have enjoyed myself as much as I did without that accumulated knowledge.

A big round of applause goes to Moondog and his maps. I printed them out and carried them around in my hip pocket the whole time I was there and they proved to be invaluable, particularly for a first timer. You might want to update them a little. I would add the Periplo, for one, and also Ciceron, which is right next door to the old Affaire.

In conclusion, I would say 3 things to those who may not have been down there;

1. Learn some Spanish,

2. Learn some Spanish, and

3. Learn some Spanish

Which is not to say that you won't have a good time in BA without it. As Grshel1 likes to say, just tape a $100 peso note to your forehead and that speaks volumes. For myself, I find that my experience with a chica (or a dyevooshka, as they say in Russia) is always enhanced if I can make a personal connection with the woman I'm with. I find that women are always more responsive that way, as opposed to a strict monetary relationship. I'm not saying that you have to be able to read Jorge Luis Borges in the original, just simple conversational stuff like, "What's your name", "Where do you come from", "Do you have any family", etc. will go a long way with the chicas.

I would say at minimum, you should be able to count (you will be doing a lot of that), at least from 1 to 1000 and tell time and the days of the week (in case you want to make an appt.). That should take you about an hour. Any additional facility you develop will enhance your experience with the chicas exponentially.

Muchisimas gracias amigos,

El Bobo

El Bobo:

Nice report, thanks.

I would recommend that you don't present yourself saying "Soy El Bobo" in Argentina. "Bobo" means moron in Argentine slang.

Anyway, going to the Salome issue, the girl was right: They have to go there to pick up their stuff or to make management know that they arrived safe. At least, withthe 10+ times I went out from there, I always left them there in one way or another (even if waiting to carry them home after checking).

However, not always they have to pass through Salomé, especially when they go out late (3:30 or 4AM) in which case they may not return to pick up their cars or to share a cab back home with other girls.

Hope you enjoy BA again.

Andres,

Entiendo.

I have a long history with the word Bobo. I first encountered it with a GF that I had from Uruguay. She liked to call me her "Bobo", which, from the manner (and the timing) when she used it, I took to be a term of endearment. We lived together for 8 months, so I don't think it was a matter of she couldn't stand me.

Since then, I have found that 60% to 70% of the time it tranlates as "fool", moron being perhaps a meaning more specific to Argentina.

I think it is a very old word. In Shakespeare's time, a fool was someone who lived by their wits, and you have to be very smart to do that.

It seemed like a good screen name. But, no, you will never catch me introducing myself as, "Soy El Bobo".

4 bedrooms? It sounds like you could have sublet the place out and still had room for yourself.

Bobo, when I was learning Spanish back in high school my teacher took my last name and gave it back as you would say it in that languange. It's a weird name in English and the Spanish word is not one you hear often. Too bad. It would have saved me some grief. I couldn't believe it when some guy took me aside and asked if I knew what the word meant that I was using. Not good, not good at all. And I really liked that teacher too. :-)

You know that "bobo" is also used in the Dominican Republic to refer to a baby pacifier. Those rubber things you stick in their mouth to suck on when they are crying. That version of the word isn't too bad asuming you make a bee line for the chicas tits like I always do. "Yo soy el bobo porque me gusta mamar las tetas. Y espero que te gusta mamarme a mi tambien."

Just don't use La Baba for someone you like. Dominicans use that for what we call drool.

El Bobo,

Glad you had a good time, and I am glad the the maps helped you out. I will be updating the maps shortly. Just to be sure about Periplo, it is one block away from Paraguay, and about a half block over from Florida St? It has a black door on the front? Is this correct?

Moondog,

Periplo is on M.T. de Alvear. It's just a door or two south of that intersection of the north end of Florida and the traffic circle at the southern tip of Plaza San Martin. Between Florida and San Martin. West side of the street, right across from some big fancy hotel, I think it's the Marriott? It's very unremarkable, no signs or anything, just a big black door. Don't blink or you'll miss it.

hey bobo, did you see barbara, the little hottie blonde working at the bar at periplo?

By El_bobo on Thursday, July 17, 2003 - 01:39 pm:  Edit

I did. Very nice. I never saw her mixing drinks, I'm not sure what she does. Very busy though, coming and going. She never gave any indication that she was interested in anything more than hanging out with the management.

Thanks for the post, can you recommend a couple of reasonably priced hotels near the action in Recoleta I guess? Thanks much.
