Buenos Aires – Departure Adventures

My departure for BA started off with a horror story only Steven King could imagine. My friend was going to take me to the airport at 5:30 AM (operative words are in the past tense). The appointed hour came and nobody darkened my doorway. Fifteen mintues later, enroute to the airport, alone in my car Dan wakes up and calls my cell phone. At least drving myself worked. Alas, the check in lines were long but not near as long as the security check lines were. Absolutely, the longest security lines I have ever seen in Louisville, Kentucky.
Finally, on the airplane ready to depart. Almost ready that is. The ground crew announces they need three people to volunteer to be bumped. Now twenty years in the Army taught me to never volunteer. Rationale thinking leaped forward and I bellowed from the swine and swill section in the very back of the plane. I knew there was another flight that would get me to Miami with time to spare....why not take the compensation for waiting in Louisville versus Miami? While the ticket agent is preparing the 200 dollar voucher I casually asked if I could be upgraded to first class for the remainer of my trip to BA. She smiled and handed me the voucher. Just before boarding the lovely ticket agent called me aside and handed me first class boarding passes for the rest of my trip. LIFE IS GOOD. I will be sending a letter to the airlines complimenting this ticket agent for her professionalism and making the flight that much easier.

DAY ONE
The driver was at EZE to wisk me away to the comfortable confines of an apartment at Art Suites. The first order of business, after checking in, was to call Roxanna and verify my e-mailed requests for afternoon appointments. I decicded to forgo an afternooner on the first day in favor of a leisure time at Colmegna Spa. A wise decision to relax a travel worn body and to savor the pleasure of a full hour long professional massage. Life is good.
A stop at Orleans Cafe was next on the agenda. Alas, a lot of the same faces in the same places, but the ¨Queen of the Orleans¨ has moved her seat closer to the bar. While enjoying a chopps of Quilmes two brand new ladies come in and sit close to the bar. At first I was not real sure they were working girls. One is the first true spinner I have seen in BA.
After lots of conversation, the spinner spoke limited English the other none, we agree on 100 dollars for a dupla, time no problem. A short cab ride with lots of touchy feely going on we arrive at Art Suites. The non-English speaker wants her money now. Nope...afterwards. Then they announce that it is one hundred each. I scanned the two ladies, thought about the situation, and did the only thing a good monger could. I reached into my pocket, took out a ten peso note, and pushed them both out the door. We had negotiated the price, and I was not in the mood to do it again.
A nap was in order and the body did appreciated my kind consideration. Later at Checkers having a beer before Madahos got started I ran into a nice looking lady. She agreed to 150 pesos but no pictures. The monger in me agreed, the photographer in me was not able to overcome the horny monger. In bed she was nothing to write home about so I will not bore you with details. I did not even bother to write her name down.
LIFE IS WONDERFUL

Maybe you are fooling us and never went home. You know that we would be really jealous if you got to say down in BA too long.

Have fun.

Ah...but I do wish I had been here all the while. My butt and back say I did do two long airplane rides to get home and back. Next month is RIO:

Lucky guy. You are now experiencing what many of us get to experience. I've also been done to BA several times and it's a wonderful city. You totally did the right thing with those girls that wanted $100 US each. Hell, I don't even think anyone should be talking in dollars down there. Always try to negotiate in pesos if you can. If they tell you that you are American. Ask them if they are in Buenos Aires or the USA.

I think you will like Rio a lot but it's totally different than BA. Have fun.
