On the 8th day....Sandman became weak. Even though my good buddy UW and Aldaron were there trying to save me from myself...I succumbed to the lovely Kelly at 4X4. I had done her on day 7. If you are there for a week or more, the internet deal at Fone Rio ($R45 for 10 hours) is a good deal. I drank lots of water and never ran out of bullets. My Portugues has improved a lot and I still continue to study almost daily. I actually began to feel comfortable having a "conversar" with some of the girls. Even when they got into their street slang, I was picking up enough to capture the essence. I am not nearly as fluent as Hector or GCL....but I'll get there. I am going to quit taking so may gifts. Just keep it to Victorias Secret panties, some perfume and chocolates.

Guys....LEARN TO DANCE! LEARN SOME PORTUGUESE.

These women love to dance and even if you can't do the Samba or Latin dances (it takes rhythm eh Hector)...they love to Hippy Hoppe. Get out on that dance floor at Help. You will have women all over you. In the quiet of you homes or Apts., whenever a good song comes on...just start grooving to it, make up your own moves, watch movies or videos...take some lessons.... then get out on that dance floor and seduce em. It is like a drug to them. I can watch and pick up almost anything but am basicaslly a street dancer now. After a few drinks....katey bar the door!

Learn enough Portuguese so that you can have a simple conversation or at least find a bathroom or know how to ask a price for something.

Never buy anything without negotiating....and G-Damn it...quit overtipping these people. Food has service included. A Real or two is fine if the service is good. Round up taxi fare to the next Real. Don't worry. They won't think you are cheap. They will think you are stupid if you overpay.

Yes, rules were made to be broken. As a life-long rule breaker, I have less respect for those who conform rigidly to silly rules (like the 3X rule) than for those who break those same rules when doing so causes no harm. Go for it, Sandman!
