The plane touched down at 12:15, a mere quarter hour late. I breezed through immigration and waited for my checked bag at the carousel. Not five minutes later it pops out. I go over to the currency exchange machine and feed in some 50s. I get barely 40 baht to the dollar, down a full 3 baht per dollar from my March trip. Oh well, it was 25 baht to the dollar before the '97 collapse, so it's still very much a bargain. I pass through customs and look for the hotel driver. My first trip the hotel driver was non-existent and I was half-expecting the same again. In the hotel's confirmation email, they instructed me to turn left after passing through customs and look for the sign with my name on it. I turned left and scanned all of the signs - sure enough my name wasn't on any on them. I then went to the right and looked at all of the signs there. Still nothing. I remember remarking that the hotel's phone number was not in any of their email correspondence and that I should look it up on the web-site, just in case. Well I didn't, shame on me. Instead of wasting more time in that very hot and humid arrival hall, I headed outside and got a metered taxi. He said he knew exactly where the Somerset Lake Point ("SLP") was, so I sat back and relaxed. I enjoyed the familiar billboards and buildings along the way.
Third trip in a year, all of the groundwork I had laid on my first two trips was going to pay off big time on this trip. I couldn't wait to get to the hotel and get cleaned up. 20 minutes later, we exited onto Sukhumvit. I was actually getting butterflies in my stomach. We pass through relatively light traffic all the way to Asoke Plaza and turn right and then bear left quickly onto Soi 16. The Soi down to the hotel was a classy mix of apartments, businesses and shops. This is one of the reasons I decided to check out another part of town. I can't reiterate enough how pleased I was with the Omni, but I wanted something a little off the "Hobbyist's" beaten path. Walking past restaurant after restaurant that catered to English hooligans and German sex tourists was not my idea of Thailand. I was pleased to see not a single soccer match advertised and not a schnitzel in sight the whole length of Soi 16. Yet the action was just a hop, skip and a jump away. Yea, this was going to be good.
We turn into the SLP and immediately two uniformed doorman jump to attention, saluting me smartly and snatch my two bags. I'm led to the reception desk, where I'm told everything is in order and that I'm in Tower B. Tower A houses the main reception as well as the business center and Maxwell's, which serves the breakfast buffet and dispatches room service. I'm given the key and the bellhop leads me outside to Tower B. In between the two towers are Maxwell's, a beauty salon, a Japanese steakhouse that is no longer open and "Angelo's Kitchen Revealed" an Italian restaurant that I never had a chance to try. In back of Tower B is a mini-mart with all of the usual snacks and beverages. We walk up the steps to the door and again I'm saluted by the doorman who then sprints across the lobby to key open the entryway to the elevator bank. This is a 40-story building and I'm a little disappointed at first to see that I'm only on the 7th floor, the lowest floor that has rooms (the first 6 stories are for parking). Upon opening the room, my disappointment fades. The suite is very modern and airy and it looks out onto the pool with the skyline in the background. The kitchen is a nice size and there is even a washer/dryer in a small separate room. There are two a/c units, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. I crank both up and start to unpack. I then take a shower in the nicely appointed bathroom that has a separate tub and shower stall and step back into the already-cooled bedroom.
It is now 1:00 and I need to form a game plan. On my first two trips I had mapped out an itinerary for bars, golf, shopping, restaurants, etc. but this time I was going to totally wing it with no set plans. The only date that I had set was to meet up with two fellow board members, Billcink and Badabing. I met up with Badabing for about 10 minutes in Costa Rica earlier this year and had exchanged a few emails with Billcink. We were all to meet at Genesis on Soi 11 @ 7:30pm.
Also on my first two trips the first thing I did was hit a salon and get the full treatment and then get a nice two-hour Thai massage. My plan was to do that this trip, plus I wanted to get a cell phone at MBK first thing, but I decided to call Nat first and see what she was up to. She was screaming with delight when I told her I was in town and she wanted to meet me right away.
We decided to meet in front of Robinson's, next to the McDonalds on Sukhumvit at 2:00pm. I left the SLP at 1:30 and decided to walk. It took 10 minutes to get to Asoke Plaza and I made it to Robinson's by 1:45. I went inside to get away from the heat and humidity. Checked out the cute sales girls and then went back outside @ 2:00pm to find a beaming Nat. This would be the first and only time she was actually on time. We went downstairs to the food court and had a late lunch. The amount of spices she put into her soup turned it orange. I still can't believe she was able to eat that. I took one spoonful and couldn't feel my tongue for the next hour, all kidding aside. I told her I wanted to go to MBK to buy a cell phone and she said she would help me do that tomorrow. I asked her why not now and she said because she wanted to play pool. So we went over to Soi Cowboy, a mere 5-minute walk and went into Country Road, across from the Long Gun. Guys playing a tournament were using the pool tables, but the dartboard was available. She wanted to play for 100 baht a game and I trounced her 5 games in a row, never letting up. She dutifully paid me 100 baht after every loss. She then asked if she could have some Tequila and I wasn't sure if I understood her correctly, but I said yes. When I saw the waitress bring over four shots of Tequila, what I thought I heard was confirmed. She said she wanted to get drunk. No problem with me. She wanted to bet double or nothing that she could down all four shots in less than 10 seconds. It took her about 5 seconds, we were even, and she was wasted.
It started pouring down rain outside and we sat and watched the rain for a few minutes until she broke the silence by saying "I want to fuck you now, let's go to the hotel." Who am I to argue?

We raced to the intersection and jumped into a taxi. 2 minutes later we were in front of SLP Tower B. The doorman waved us in, no ID checked, and we went upstairs. Nat went right to the bathroom and took a shower, while I checked out the TV. She yelled from the bedroom "Fuck me now" and I obliged. This is why I kept in contact with her. This is why I came back to Bangkok. This was going to be a week to remember.
After finishing up, we dozed off and I set the alarm to 6:30. I got up, took a shower and got dressed and then kicked Nat out of bed. I told her I was meeting friends at Genesis @ 7:30 and would pick her up at the Long Gun after her dance show, which ended around 11:00. I asked her if she wanted to spend the week with me and she happily accepted. I gave her 3,000 baht and told her to pay her bar fine for the week. We both walked downstairs and parted ways, her on a moto-taxi, me in a standard issue cab.
I wasn't sure exactly where Genesis was, but Badabing was staying at the Grand President and said it was right across the street. I found the place easily and recognized Badabing sitting at the bar. We adjourned to the more comfortable couches and started to compare notes. Billcink then joined us. This was Badabing's 10th trip and he always stayed at the Grand President. Billcink was on his 4th trip and he loved the Dynasty Inn, wanting to be in the middle of the action. And I was raving about the SLP. Three different guys, three very different opinions, all with one objective. We discussed Pattaya - in all of Badabing's trips he never once went - and had no interest. Billcink went once and didn't have a good time, same as me. It's funny how some things work for some guys and not for others. The time flew by and we agreed to meet again on Monday at 7:30. I have to say that Genesis is a great meeting spot. Very comfortable, good prices and early on it's not loud so you can have a conversation. Later on, the DJ changes the ambience, but you can talk until 10pm or so.
We went our separate ways, Billcink went to meet his steady, a waitress at Woodstock, in Nana Plaza and Badabing went to meet his steady at Angel Witch. I headed over to the Long Gun where the show was at mid-point. I ordered a beer and watched as Nat performed, sexy as ever. Right after the show, I told Nat I was a little tired, so she changed and we grabbed some street food before heading into a cab and over to the SLP. This time the guard asked Nat for her ID, which she left downstairs.
We went upstairs and straight to the shower. We watched TV a little and then gave the bed a workout. If nothing else, Nat is a great fuck with a very tight pussy. I fell asleep around 1:00am and Nat stayed up until who knows what time watching TV.
Day 1 was in the books and no one was happier than me.

That Nat chick is a true pro...I know exactly who she is. She started working at Long Gun at 16, according to the mamasan. Very cute girl with a lot of energy but she comes accross as a serious drug user....you did yourself a favor by not seeing her anymore. She probably took your 3,000 baht and pocketed it without the mamasan knowing you paid her barfine. We should put her picture in a new section entitled "Bargirls to avoid"....she is very popular and crafty but should be considered a short-time girl only. I hope her shenanigans don't make you jaded about Thai girls...they are normally very sweet but the Isaan girls can be ruthless....

First rate reporting. Your enthusiasm comes through loud and clear. I'm sure I not the only one who is feeding vicariously off your report. Can't wait till I get back in late September.

Thanks Platinum.
Blazers: I heard all kinds of stories about her age and that she married an American but couldn't get a visa because she was too young. Bottom line, I just wanted to have a good time the week I was there. What she (or any bar girl) does when I'm not there is her business. I'm not supporting her. But when she's on my dime, I expect her to hold up her end of the bargain. I don't know about the drug use though. I talked to her seeing if she could point me in the right direction for some recreational stuff, but I was always very strongly rebuffed.
I have to admit her actions did hurt me - but I got right back into the game and ultimately found a real sweet one who had only been working at Angel Witch for 2 months - not a hardened pro yet. More to come.
A new Section on Bar Girls to avoid sounds like a great idea. Heck, if I can get enough JPEGs together, I can design a pack of Bar Girl Cards - like the Iraqi Most Wanted Deck of Cards. Don't visit a bar without them.

As usual Wall, I'm really enjoying your report. Hmmm, I guess there are more guys on this board than I thought who've had bad experiences in Pattaya or don't really care for the place. I thought myself and Khun Mor were in a distinct minority. Looking forward to hearing about the Angel Witch girl. I have fond memories of the cutie I got out of there on the last trip.

Wallstreet, great stuff, I appreciate you being very descriptive and detailed. I've always tried to squeeze in Pattaya on my trips and have always enjoyed going there, but it's the old maxim--different strokes for different folks. From the looks of it, I think you found a real great hotel in the SLP, definitely something for us to check out.

Wallstreet; excellent insight on your trip. i guess you can't never expect some of those bar girls to stay away from drugs. it calls my attention having some guys not interested in going to pattaya, oh well, freedom of choice!!!. only thing is the place you stayed would be a little to pricey for me.///
