Arrived at something like midnight. I took a taxi from one of the ladies standing behind the counters at the airport. Big mistake. 600 baht.
Note: At airport walk down to the far end after getting out of customs. Find a cab and ask for meter into town. You should probably pay about 100 baht maybe a little more to Nana.
Took a room at the Grand President. Royal Suite. Enjoyed it immensely. Had a condition of 'most get work done while there'. After a night’s sleep I got down to business center and they supplied me with the dsl modem and ethernet cable for the room. Couldn't beat it, once I figured out the smtp for their mail server I was off and running. Getting a little bit done while I'm away usually helps me enjoy my time. But I’m getting ahead of myself.
Still early when I got there, which actually turned out to be late by BKK standards. The cab driver outside of GP, young guy, nice guy, named Poo..took me to a place called, and my Thai is a little off but it sounded like 'Star-dok'.
Star-dok or whatever it was, was more like Star Wars. Nothing like seeing lonely, tired, drunk, thai girls sitting in western clothes on a two tiered bleacher trying to catch your eye while you sit in front of them in a room of smoke watching a big screen feature of Chuck Norris out of your right eye while trying to avoid the stares with you left.
Forget it. Get in, get out. First night in BKK. Cost me 1500 bar and 500 for the girl.
Her name was Coffee. Took her back to the GP. The guards do salute you at the GP which after a week gets to be fun. Kind of like the Zen master calling you to attention. And the shit eating grins get wider each time you bring in another girl. I took Coffee up to the room where we ordered room service and turned on CNN.
Observation: Thai girls drink. Alot. My only other mongering trip had been to Rio.
I’d say, Thai girls drink as much as Brazilian girls dance. Not all of them but I could go for a week in Rio drinking mostly water while in Bangkok it’s either whiskey or Singha. They have water but these girls didn’t drink it.
Coffee ordered two beers. I ordered a steak sandwhich. Service was quick. It must have been nearly 3 in the morning. I settled into my sandwich while Coffee smoked her cigarettes and drank her beers as we watched a hurricane reach landfall in North Carolina.
She was shy about the shower but eventually gave in. No kissing just a soap up of the penis. She was pretty but older. Rough. Country. Tough. Made me think of the slavery trade the next day. Luckily though didn’t have those thoughts while I was with her.
We make it to the bed and she lies there.
“Do you have a condom?” she asks.
I pause and raise my eyebrows, ‘Ah, no, sweetheart, that’s your job.’ And I’m kicking myself for not bringing my own. But getting out on one day’s notice allowed for plenty of opportunities to forget things.
“I don’t have a condom,” I say.
“Well, no sex no condom.”
“You got that right,” I say rising up on my elbow.
She repeats, “No sex no condom.”
Genuine pause.
“You call room service,” she says
This strikes me as absurd. I’ve seen the people at the front desk. They’re professional people. Plus at this hour they’re all sitting around. I’m not going to be the brunt of the giggles for the next week as I pass by their desk. ‘yep, that’s the schmuck that called down to room service for a condom.”
“You don’t have a condom?” I ask again.
“No, you call room service”
Shit, I’ve come to Bangkok. It’s my first night. First time. First time in this part of the world. I’m in bed with a Thai girl, following the script beautifully and now we have no condom. Damnit all.
I reach over her and lift up the receiver.
She’s laughing.
“What?” I say.
“I just joking,” she says. “I have condom”
Sex was quick. I'd been on the long flight. Not much sleep. She said I was something in Thai, which translates to ‘the-one-who-only-pleases-himself’. She leaves. Walks herself to the elevator.
Day 2
Next morning, out with buddy from work, we check out Khao San, tourist around a bit, then end up back on Soi 11 (he was staying at the Ambassador which is literally a stone’s throw from the Grand President) for dinner.
Genesis is on Soi 11 right across from the GP. Nice place to gather. Relatively quiet. Girls don't try too maul you. They are available but even after spending a week there, almost every night, couldn't figure out what the deal was.
Girls at Genesis can be barfined but they’ll only have sex with you if they like you or if they decide they want too. Strange but it seemed as if the girls held a higher opinion of themselves then their counterparts down at the Nana Plaza and the Star Wars bar.
In some cases their higher opinion was justified. They were definitely pretty, three or four of them were knockouts. Some had stories of guys flying them to KL, Frankfurt, and New Zealand. I wouldn't doubt it. We talked with a girl one night after her barfine dropped her off, she'd just been to see the movie S.W.A.T. No sex, just out for a movie. A thousand bhat to take her to a movie. The true definition of the word ‘escort’
Side note: asked one of the girls about the infiltration of Islam into Bangkok. She said 70% of her friends were Muslim. Can Islam be giving these girls a higher opinion of themselves? Or is it just MTV? How has Islam affected the sex business in Bangkok? Not to say that working girls, on the average have low opinions of themselves, I understand or more appropriately have seen the poverty they come from. And I know from that level of poverty religion is really the easiest thing to give one a sense of self-respect. I’m just wondering if Islam in some way is working it’s way into the mind of the working girl in Thailand.
Must also say that I was there during the preparation for APEC so a lot of this was on my mind. With Bush, Putin, and Blair, and the prime minister of China coming in what was little over a month, no one was taking chances on Bangkok becoming another Bhali.
More than once the cops came into Genesis and into the Q-Bar around the corner, shutting everyone down at around 12 12:30. While I was there Bangkok was a very early town.
Day 3
I wake up in a stupor. More rum than I've had in years. Trying to match drink for drink with our friends at Genesis. I wonder out of bed at around 2 in the afternoon looking for food. Call my buddy but no answer in his room. I find Condoms and Cabbages (highly recommended restaurant) and sit down for some lunch.
On my way over I pass by a place called 'Darlingz'. Lack of time to prepare for the trip left all kinds of holes in my itinerary. I see a couple of guys walk out and make a mental note to check it out on the way home.
Walking up to the place, I wasn't sure if it was a gay bathhouse. I remember a sign walking down the Soi that read “Turkish Bathhouse” so I walk slowly. A man opens the door, I see the lighted pictures of women in bubble baths; two women with a man in the middle. A sandwich. Perfect.
After my session I came back on Hombre to do some research. Darlingz has been blasted by some folk but for a place to stumble on it couldn't be beat.
I got in and out for 6000 baht, including tip This included two girls, sex, bath, massage, etc, etc. Great action. One girl was just a walking stick of dynamite. Fake boobs, perfect little ass, gorgeous lips and a fantastic kisser. The other was a great masseuse. Between the three of us we had great time. Walked in it was sunlight, walked out it was dark. I was a changed man.
Day Four
Didn't sleep that well the night before. Still hadn't adjusted to the time. We stop by Louis's Collection 172/1 Sukhumvit Road, (Near Soi-8) and have our measurements done. We had picked out a few suit selections the day before. All in all it was a good experience with Kenny at Louis's. But looking back I would have been a bit more selective on the material. I am not too happy about the starchiness and polyester feel of some of the shirts. But it was my first time around in buying custom tailored clothes. I’d say it was my fault, not theirs. Their service was excellent. I ordered another suit at the last minute. I was in Louis’s at 6pm the night before, they had it for waiting for me the next morning when I checked out at 5 am.
Frankly that was all the sex for me on this trip. The rest of the time we spent working with clients. It was memorable. I’d say Rio was more ‘fun’ yet Bangkok more ‘sophisticated’. Girls in Bangkok (limited to general impressions) are more serious, more gloomy and brooding but better sexually. The girls in Rio are more sexy, alive, and fun to be around.
Also found the girls in Bangkok to generally want to leave - too move away, where the girls in Rio, although it was talked about and generalized, were less apt to cling to a guy, look into his eyes and desperately ask him if he ‘liked’ her. I took those as beggars eyes, big round, wanting…I never saw those on a working girl in Rio.
Memories and tips for other newbies:
-Grand President – I would stay there again.
-Insist on metered cabs.
-Tuk tuks are not bad really but there’s too much pollution in the air to enjoy the ride.
-Find Foodland on Soi 5(?)great grocery store with just about everything you need.
-Sauna and Steam at Grand President. Great way to wake up and read the paper.
-Lunch at MK Restaurant. Top floor of MBK Shopping Center. Great Dim Sum and Suki.
-Siam Discovery for expensive western styled items.
-Condoms and Cabbages really is a nice restaurant in a very nice rain forest type setting.
-Seeing the Russian State Ballet perform Don Quixote at the Thai Cultural Center. I brought a girl from Genesis with me. Told her to dress up but she wore jeans and a “Chaps” t-shirt. The King’s sister was there, red carpet and all. Nothing like stares from the upper crust of the farang community. I figured Cervantes would have appreciated the irony. She didn’t give a flip.
-The flooded soi.
-Reading ‘A Killing Smile’, by Christopher G. Moore while on the trip.
-Catching the pickpocket with his hand on my wallet at the Weekend Market.
-Woodstock for relaxed games of pool and a decent ‘black’ beer.
Epilogue
I’d go back. I had never been with an Asian woman before. I had my doubts. But the girls in Bangkok changed that for me. They are sensual, mysterious, soft, they have little pussies, and speak decent english. I'll be back.

About the taxis, I have a question.
When I arrived in BKK, I paid 600 as well (at one of the little booth things). When I came back to BKK from Pattaya, I walked outside, and asked a guy to run his meter. He said no one runs the meter from the airport, and I should pay 400. I said ok. Then he even hit me up for the toll.
Oh well, how much do you guys typically pay? I think I will make a poll out of this.
Thanks for the input.

Hard and fast rule-- never get in a taxi unless he opens the meter. Do not believe the crap these guys can come up with. At the airport if you use the public taxi stand they HAVE to open meter. If you go up to departures and try to catch a taxi unloading another fare they will still use meter. If not--- GET OUT. No exceptions. There is always another taxi available anywhere in BKK.
The only exception really is if you get in a cab PARKED at Nana or Patpong or Cowboy. Those dudes been sitting there for a while and will refuse to open meter. They are waiting for a sucker. Even there you just hail a moving cab and tell him to open meter. Again if he says no get out.
BTW 400 baht for a meter taxi from airport is robbery !! As you said you can get a Thai Air Limo for 600 baht.

Yesterday I had my first experience with Bangkok taxi drivers. At the airport I just grabbed a meter Taxi at the Taxi booth. The driver started the meter with no hassles at all. My trip was about 280 baht including a 50 baht surcharge for the airport that had been clearly posted at the booth up front and I paid the toll which was also clearly posted up front so I had no problem with this. The strange part is that returning to the airport the next day the porter at the Marriott hailed me a meter cab, talked to the driver and handed me a ticket with the drivers number if I had any trouble. for some reason the trip back to the airport was only 150 baht and the trip took much less time than it had the night before. Even after the airport surcharge is seems the trip to the hotel was about 80 baht longer than the trip from the hotel. I suspect I saw the scenic route the night before.

You definitely got a nocturnal tour of BKK Sancho. The meter is NEVER over 150-160 at most. Did you do a lot of driving coming off the expressway?? Soi 4 is just a few blocks off the fwy although there are about 6 different ways to get there depending on traffic.

Although....the trip into the Marriott is always longer than the trip out to the airport because of the screwy route the cabs have to take to get off the expressway and to the Marriott, but the difference shouldn't be more than 50-60 baht.

Bruce, nice report. It did seem that the places and girls you decided upon leaves for a little improvement in terms of service and attitude. There are plenty of wonderful go-gos that probably would of resulting in better sexual experiences. Also, I always bring plenty of lube and condoms-- I would never trust a BF to supply them-- especially an abbreviated Thai condom.
