In my travels earlier this year I came through Sihanoukville on the Cambodian coast again. Sihanoukville is a sleepy little port/beachtown with two main area's for "sanuk":
First of all there is the "hill" on the road behind the market and busstation, these are mainly concrete houses/short-time hotels, some have karaoke facility's.
Usualy the girls await the punters in the ally, usually sitting in a row on either side of the brothels entrypoint. They open sometime in the afternoon untill dawn usualy, but if not open just bang on the door and you will be serviced anyway ;)
Shorttime for westeners should cost no more then 5$ including BBBJ and come on face/tits. Take out is possible for 10-20$ depending on the girl and the hour.
Girls are mostly Vietnamese with a minority of Khmer(Cambodians), quality imo ranges from 4-9, a few stunners for every type of body and face you'd want.
The second major area is Phontamay near the port area.
These are mainly wooden shacks with some concrete houseses being build but overall it looks like just another third world shantytown.
Girls are mostly Khmer with some vietnamese, some stunners but mostly the girl next door or worse. ST prices range from 3$ for the expats to 5$ for the obvious tourists. Take out is possible for 10-15$ depending on girl and hour.
In the middle of all this is the Biba discoteque, with a mixture of Thai and Khmer techno and some Thai summerhits played at earsplitting level this is not the place for everyone.
They have ST rooms in the back and if you see anything you like just ask one of the mamasans to get your girl and take her back to the backstage rooms for some sanuk. (5$ ST including the works)
Other places are Rose massage at the busstation witch these days seems more of a hotel for freelancers who are comming down from Phnom Pehn in ever increasing numbers and some bars they hang out in:
Fishermans denn --> Mainly old Vietnamese hags, nice rooftop bar though, they also offer fishing trips.
Marlin Hotel: Look for the girls without waitress uniforms, the waitresses are "sometimes" for take out.
Finaly there are always girls hanging out at the beachparty's witch seem to be on every night at the and of Eutchetel beach.
Get there by boat from Koh Kong (Thai border) by boat for 12$ or get a bus down from PP for 4$. (Only good road in the country)

Thanks for the report. I will be there in a week and a half. This is very useful information.

Careful Dude,
I found lots of info on this town and others in Cambodia as of 1997 estimates were 45% HIV infection rate among whores.
By Blazers on Friday, November 14, 2003 - 09:29 am: Edit |
45%...that's absurd. Not even African countries and India have numbers that high and those countries are currently having an epidemic with AIDS.
By I_am_sancho on Friday, November 14, 2003 - 10:57 am: Edit |
I don't buy the 45% either but I am aware Cambodia has a high HIV rate and will be diligent about using condoms this time. I got a bunch of those "female condoms" for this trip. The kind that you stick inside the girl and it stays there. They look weird as hell but I tried one on Lao girl and they feel almost like bareback and I figure they protect much better than regular condoms to because they cover external areas as well. As for BBBJ's I am trusting the common theory that HIV is not spread by oral sex. I have seen research that indicates HIV does not live well in saliva.

I was told there is an area outside of town on a dirt road known as the "chicken ranch" that consisted of basically a bunch of very third world shacks functioning as brothels with $3 to $5 short time girls. Is that the same place as one of the two areas mentioned or is that a different area entirely?

Regarding HIV seroprevalence rates in Cambodian prostitutes, here's a somewhat dated reference that mentions a rate of 40%. I've seen other figures in the 30%-35% range. The rate has droppped a bit in the past two years, but still is highest of any place in SE Asia.
As to HIV not being spread by oral sex, the odds are low but not zero. If you have any open sores in your mouth, or even if you've recently flossed and caused minor bleeding while doing so, you've got an open pathway for infection.

Regionally, Southeast Asia has a high rate of HIV among
prostitutes, with a 38 percent HIV rate among prostitutes in
Vietnam in 1995, a 10 percent rate among Malaysian prostitutes,
and a 40 percent incidence among female sex workers in Cambodia.

You can volunteer to help out AIDS patients' clinic/house. There are people rotting away there and there are also children(who may have gotten them since birth or elsewhere).
A doctor told me many HIV+ people can't afford treatment or medicine since it costs more than their salaries. So it spreads.
Someone here posted a list not long ago which included Cambodia and it has a 1.8% HIV+ rate(esp since there are drug users too) that would suggest 1.8% X 12.5 mil = 225,000 people.
From Yahoo World Fact book:
"Population 12,212,306
note:estimates for this country explicitly take into account the effects of excess mortality due to AIDS; this can result in lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality and death rates, lower population and growth rates, and changes in the distribution of population by age and sex than would otherwise be expected (July 2000 est.) "

Sancho and Bwana,
Your risk of becoming hiv+ being an insertive partner with a HIV+ recepticle is generally considering eXtremelely low risk. Let's say arounnd the odds of you get hit by lightning tomorrow. Basically, you'de have to have an open sore on your member that would come in contact with blood in their mouth for any chance at all. HIV does not live and transmit via saliva. In fact many studies report saliva may quicken the demise of the virus when coming in contact.

BTW, according the the CIA factbook Cambodia has a per capita HIV rate of 17.3 per 1000 as of 2002 (1.7%%)
In 1999 there was an estimated 220k people living with HIV in cambodia.

It seems there is only one way to settle this issue. I will have to go to Sihanoukville myself next week and get BBBJ's from about 20 or 30 women. Then 3 months after my return I will get another HIV test and see if I made it out alive. All in the name of science of course. I will be having those 20 or 30 test subjects give me BBBJ's for research purposes only. I will do BBBJ research in Pattaya, Koh Khong, and Phnom Phen as well. This is very important science. I think this is an area where much more study needs to be done.

Sanches: Chickenville is called Phontamei in Khmer, there has been a rumour going around for a long time that they want to move it 10K up the road as in Phnom Pehn but for now they are still taking aprat houses and rebuilding on the other side of the village.
On HIV: There is always a chance of you getting it from BBBJ, but if the girl is not coughing (TBC) or has bleeding gums there shouldnt be any problem. I always take the extra strong Durex from home, never failed me and besides, the local #1 condoms are about as safe as riding bareback.
Have fun in Snookyville

We'll look forward to the new and improved, more matured Sancho with Genital Warts etc. I've seen guys like that who claims they are impervious to STDs. "oh we Germans genetically can't get AIDS." "We Chinese don't get AIDS."
The local #1 condom is also about as sensitive as a balloon. Since my groundbreaking condom test 3 years ago everybody's been saying Durex. -DJ

Ah yes, genital warts. The dreaded HPV virus. I have read that almost 80% of the American general population tests positive for having been exposed to HPV. Condoms offer only limited protection. In the vast majority of cases the bodies immune system controls the HPV virus and a wart is never seen. In approximately 2% to 4% of cases warts appear. Now it seems to me that if 80% of the general population has been exposed to HPV then something like 100% of the guys on this board have been exposed to HPV in which case statistically 2% to 4% of the guys around here are running around with warts on there dick and 96% to 98% have immune systems that controlled it. I never had a wart so I assume I am one to the 96% to 98%. In any case it seems quite inevitable and quite futile to worry about HPV. Either it will never affect you or you are one of the unlucky 2% to 4% and there is little you can do to avoid it.
In any case I will be using condoms in Cambodia. I have a whole shitload of condoms just for this trip. Unless the girls make to much fuss I will be using the "female condom" you shove inside the girl and then stick your dick in. They look weird as hell but feel really good and actually cover even more and are stronger than Latex. Of course as a backup or for any anal action I have plenty of my favorite Columbian plastic condoms on hand for this trip as well.(100% more sensative than any latex no mater how thin) TSA agents will have a blast if they decide to search my carryon bag. Only the blowjobs will be bareback. Sure it is possible to get HIV from a blowjob but it has to be statistically many times less likely than you are to be killed on the back of a motodop. Life is full of risk. HIV from a BBBJ is down the list quite a ways in terms of risk.
