A Preface

My interest in hobbying and the lifestyle was piqued last year during what can only be described as an existential crisis. Suffice it to say that over the first several months of the year, I learned the ins and outs of hobbying stateside without ever actually having sought out a provider, let alone setting foot in a stripclub. One fateful trip south of the border to Puerto Peñasco with two good friends and a nasty weeklong hangover during the middle of the summer was all it took to seal the deal. From that point on, curiosity got the best of me. I returned to Peñasco last November to explore a few of the TD bars and had my first experience with a SG and subsequent session in a cramped room at Dunas. The furtiveness of that trip left me wanting to taste more. Eventually, I made my way to Nogi and visited a few of the TDs there, as well as the infamous Conga.

I was slipping into darkness, and eventually had to make the leap. I adopted the commonsense wisdom of a colleague “You don’t pay a hooker to sleep with you, you pay her to leave when you’re done” and made plans for a trip to CR.

I should probably mention that sometime after my second trip to Puerto Peñasco, I discovered this board and have lurked for the better part of this year, soaking up information like crazy. Naturally, one thing led to another, and after spending many late nights reading trip report after trip report, I decided to make my first foray out of the country. It would be an understatement to say that I have benefited from the collective wisdom of the vets on this board. I owe particular thanks to Wallstreet, DonGordo, and Tomo for their insights regarding the tico joints and indulging my perversions. I was able to navigate the mean streets of San Jose, hit many of the hot spots, and have a helluva time as a result of the knowledge gleaned here.

Accordingly, I felt it only appropriate to dutifully submit a report on my recent trip to CR. Admittedly, there were a few pendejadas made, but you live and learn. For brevity’s sake, I am limiting this report to San Jose activities, as I have nothing to report on about Guanacaste. I know there were pros working in some of the beach towns, but really didn’t bother to look. We made a quick trip up to Monteverde as well, but were pissed to find the place populated mainly by eurotrash tourists, with little in the way of nightlife or hobbying that we could find. I had planned on taking some photos, but decided against it. After enjoying this trip, though, I will definitely bring the camera along on future adventures.

Planning this trip, I based my travel on an anticipated business trip out to the East Coast, and flew out of Miami. I would meet a buddy of mine later in the evening for a week on the beach, book ended by two weekends in San Jose. I had reserved two rooms at the Presidente at the “discount” rate of $48/night for the first weekend in San Jose, and knew where we were staying on the beach. We left some flexibility in the schedule to accommodate any changes to our itinerary on the back end of the trip, and were pretty happy with the way the whole affair turned out.

My buddy is something of a vet, having over the past few years traveled to BKK, China, Vietnam and Russia among other places, and knew the routine. We planned on meeting in the News Café when he got to the hotel, and then heading over to Del Rey. Because I was flying in several hours before he was, I was able to scout out the town, using Lumps’ map and the Club Hombre map to navigate my way around town and gain my bearings. I looked like a fucking fool on the streets, but at least I figured I’d fit in anyway. I wasn’t dressed like a gringo tourist, and passed for a Tico the entire trip.
