This was a trip I made in early 2003. I'm posting it as my first post in CH since I just joined, but the info should still be useful as its within the past year. This trip was a real adventure, first time in DR and can't speak more than a few words of spanish. The weather was beautiful, probably high 20s C the whole time I was there. But unfortunately the poverty in this country is apparent everywhere.
Flew in to Santo Domingo, damn the taxi drivers there are annoying in trying to get your business. Literally dozens of them, eyeing me (white gringo that I am) like I'm some movie star I could not believe all the attention. Some even followed me or kept shouting at me as I walked around looking for a bus. Harassment. And I could not find a bus either. Eventually found a cab to drive me eastward, as I wanted to go down to La Romana then work my way back to SD. Initially the cab was going to drop me off at Boca Chica to catch a bus there, but the intersection with the main highway looked a little dangerous with motorbikers around and I sure as hell didn't want to exit a cab there with my luggage and wait who knows how long for some bus which might not be safe either. Fortunately, the taxi driver was willing to take me all the way to La Romana - about a 2 hour drive. The ride there was very interesting as we passed through a few towns as well. When we got in to La Romana, a local on the street came up to the cab and ended up helping me find a place to stay. I figured he'd be expecting some $ for his services, but he was very helpful and in fact turned out to be invaluable. No price negotiation up front the three of us were just going with the flow, trying to find the gringo (me) a place to stay. We tried a couple small hotels in La Romana but both were booked. Ended up driving out to nearby Bayahibe, and found a nice cabana which turned out to be the best thing I could have hoped for. Paid the guy and driver (both 400-500 pesos... can't remember exactly but it was reasonable).
Many cabana units in Bayahibe, very informal not like a hotel at all. Got a cabana with 2 beds, washroom, A/C, and TV for 500 pesos a night. At the time this was $25 US/night, due to the continued devaluation in the Dominican peso that's now $13/night! Great deal. I realized I had been fortunate today, considering I had no specific plans when I had arrived just a few hours earlier.
In Bayahibe there is one main beach with two parts - a public section and a private section belonging to the all-inclusive Casa Del Mar resort. The public beach is just fine, great sand and water and requisite palm tries. Not crowded at all and lots of room. There are vendors but they are way at the back of the beach, nowhere near the main beach front The Casa Del Mar beach had many more people than the public beach.
The hidden gem of Bayahibe is Casa Daniel. It's a small boat-trip service run by Germans. They have a few options for trips, I highly recommend the Isla Saona day trip for $45 US with lunch included. Be sure to bring sunscreen. At Isla Saona you will find some of the most pristine and perfect beaches imaginable. If it's a sunny day out and nobody else using the beach when you arrive (like in my case), it is the ultimate, utopic beach experience. The Isla Saona day trip actually consists of a stop for snorkeling in the morning, then on to Isla Catalinita, then a 2.5 hour stop on Isla Saona for lunch and leisure, then an afternoon stop at Piscine Naturel then back home to Bayahibe.
OK on to the chicas.
I was fortunate (again) to by pure luck hook up with a local in Bayahibe who had access to a car and was willing to be my driver when I needed transportation. I probably paid him $10 US each way between Bayahibe and La Romana... a little pricy but for the convenience, friendship and the fact he waited on me in the clubs so I always had a ride back right away, it was worth it.
Tried a few small clubs in town but nothing even remotely interesting. Maybe it was too early. We ended up going to El Deseo Night Club. When I arrived I realized once again I had been fortunate. This place was incredible and I knew I would not be needing to look elsewhere during my time in the La Romana area.
El Deseo is on the outskirts of La Romana on the main road coming in from Santo Domingo. Just past a Shell gas station. Long pink metal gate with a good size parking lot in front. Blue swordfish on the roof. Oval sign up on a pole in front with Night Club (in blue) El Deseo (in pink). The girl and dance pole on the sign should clue in even the casual observer that there are girls here. Inside it must be 2500 sq.ft. easily.
I went to El Deseo on two consecutive evenings and had a blast. Huge dancing floor, bar and lounge area. Each night 15-20 girls. Several 6s & 7s, some 8s and a couple 9s. Not too crowded at all when I went so plenty of selection and the girls all eager to be your companion. The rooms in back are OK but not the greatest. The first night, after hanging out for an hour, I chose a girl named Kenya Elizabeth. 1600p for 1.5 hours in one of the rooms (small studio apartments) in back. The second night I brought another girl (can't remember the name) back to my cabana for 1.5 hours, 2000p. Yes I probably paid a "tourist tax" but I had no complaints. Both girls were an 8, around 20 yo, friendly and provided good service.
On my way back to Santo Domingo I stopped for a few hours in Boca Chica. Based on what I saw, I’d say avoid this place. The whole vibe was crowded, pushy, a little seedy and higher rip-off potential. I knew there was much better waiting for me in SD.
In Santo Domingo I went to Spa Michelle. If you don’t speak spanish all you need to remember to get there is "Cinqo Santiago" which is the street address. Although don’t let the driver come in with you, I think they try to collect a fee which makes your fee go higher. I actually walked around the block and the taxi driver was following me wondering what the hell I was doing, which proved my suspicion. I waited several minutes for him to drive off, then went back around to the entrance to the place. Saw Marlenne. Massage and nice long BBBJ, russian finish. 800p for about 45 min.
Also brought a girl from Jazzy’s back to my hotel for the night for 2000p. I believe this rate is well below what a tourist gringo like myself would normally be charged, but I had a spanish speaking friend with me who knew the club and negotiated on my behalf. The girl was Bobus, hot looking stripper, early 20s, slim with great tits. Average session though. Hard to connect when you both don’t speak more than a few words of the other’s language. We slept until the morning then she was off. Jazzy’s Elite Club is at Av Espana No. 46, Ens. Isabelita (I’m reading off the matches I still have from my one visit there). They have one of the best stage shows I’ve ever seen, at least when all the girls come out for their special lingerie modelling routine to fast beat music with strobe lights… a bit like a Victoria’s Secret show but with some lesbian orgy action thrown in. BTW the laps at Jazzy’s are expensive I think 400p each song. So if you’re there for take-out best to save your pesos for that.
I stayed at Hotel Napolitano which I can certainly recommend. Guest-friendly though the girl must sign in with her ID papers. Casino on main floor and an outdoor pool. Good prices for the rooms which were 3-star I’d say.

I've heard good things about Jazzy's. Tried to get there one night without much success. I am headed back to SDQ in a few weeks. What you say about the overall staff? Is there an entrance fee? Thanks in advance.

To be honest I only spoke briefly with a couple girls. Some speak very limited english. Also the place was completely packed when I was there, many of the girls were sitting with guys, and I was lucky to find a seat to sit down. But my impression overall they were very friendly. I don't recall if there was an entrance fee but if so it wasn't enough to make me remember it! I do seem to recall though you had to buy the girl a drink if you wanted them to sit with you more than a few minutes. Girls were high quality and all wore the same skimpy outfits. I would reccommend a visit to this place for a more upscale experience in SD, let us know how it goes if you go.

Thanks for the report. With regard to the Napolitano in Santo Domingo make sure to ask for a room on an upper floor. If they attempt to give you the 3rd floor room next to the pool turn it down. This is also right above the disco and gets really noisy. 6th floor is best. I have stopped staying here altogether as I prefer Zona Colonial to the Malecon.

Esteban:
How much did you pay for the room at Napolitano?
How are the bathrooms in this Hotel?
Is it a good idea to change money at the SD airport?
Gitano:
Which Hotel do you recommend in Zona Colonial?
Is it close the "action" in Santo Domingo?
Thanks!

Anyone have an update on La Romana, El Deseo and others?
I plan to stay in Bayahibe for some diving, and would want to hobby a little at night (take out, to a cabana or my hotel - not onsite). I read that with some skill, good Spanish, and some looks, it's not difficult to get a girl out of El Deseo for 1,500 pesos. Then I read above that girls wouldn't budge from US$100. Which is true?
Is there any other option for really pretty girls in LRM other than El Deseo (again, I've read conflicting reports)?
