I land in Thailand with nothing but suitcases. I remember folks saying “There are soooOOOooo many hotels available you can ALWAYS find a room.” These people were NOT talking about Bangkok in mid-February!! The place is PACKED with hobbyists looking for their next pooying fix. A friend (Progman) recommended Majestic Suites so I arranged for a taxi driver (no, NOT Travis Bickle!!) to take me to the hotel. I used one of the expensive places, so it was 650B.
When the driver was taking my bags to the car I just walked up to sit in the front seat and found myself staring at a steering wheel. OK, this is NOT what I expected!! Getting myself into the correct side of the car I enjoyed the ride. A bit disorienting at first as I was riding right next to the left hand side of the street, but still quite an impressive city.
I arrive at the corner of Sukhumvit and Soi 4 and my driver stops at the 7-11 there. He says “you can walk – it’s just right over there.” Hmmm. Guess I’ll walk with my tip too. At that time I didn’t realize what a nightmare getting in front of that hotel could be!!
I walk in and ask for a room. “I’m sorry sir, we are fully booked today.” This is NOT what I wanted to hear!! Cheers to the gent that helped me out: “Dynasty Inn, around the corner, may have room for you.” That suggestion made my trip worth having…
Wandered around the corner with a 30” Pullman in tow. Anyone that’s walked from Sukhumvit to Dynasty Inn knows what the sidewalk looks like and how full of people/vendors it is. As I’m getting ready to walk in the front door I bump into a guy I chatted with in Cebu Airport!! He also had a suggestion for lodging, but he was referring to a place farther down the road and I was done walking for now!!
Approached the front desk and was greeted by a mass of goddesses!! Many gorgeous Thai ladies working behind the counter (turns out a couple of rhinos were working the night shift…). One told me they had ONE room left, but it was kind of “expensive” ($35/night). Seeing as I was paying $45/night at Orchid Inn I thought how bad could it be?
I was BLOWN AWAY by the size/quality of the room!! This room was almost DOUBLE the size of the Orchid Inn room and cost LESS!! I had a nice city view, king size bed and a shower that could hold me and four brown girls simultaneously!! Such a deal. Here are pics from my window:

I only had my room for a few days, so I called up Scooter and arranged to meet him in Pattaya. He offered to give me the whirlwind tour and show me ALL the fun spots!!
Now, off to “business”. Directly across the street from the hotel is a GREAT little bar called Charming Bar 2. I wanted to do some siteseeing and so needed someone that spoke passable English. Sure enough, I ended up with a nice girl named Mem. Mem is NOT young, but she’s nice and fun. We hit it off and I brought her back to the room.

This place is NOTHING short of AMAZING!! 7 floors of foot massage places, odd little shops selling EVERYTHING under the sun and movie theatres that are 1/5th the cost of the same quality stateside!! I love this place!!
Got my new number, ate some food, saw a movie and headed back to the room. We abused the sheets again and I told her I wanted to go see Wat Phra Keow the next day and asked if she’d like to join. Tried the SIM in the phone, but it didn’t work. Turns out my “unlocked” phone from AC was indeed locked. Guess this means another trip back to MBK. Since it was about 10pm this would need to be tackle the next day.
Mem went back to her room and brought back a change of clothes. Since EVERY girl in Thailand lives 100km from work it took her 3 hours to get home and back. She finally showed up around 1am and I was dead tired. We got into bed and crashed.
Next day we got up, screwed like rabbits and went back to MBK to get my phone unlocked. Now I was ready for Wat Phra Keow!! We take a metered taxi across town (less then $2.50) and check out the place. I’m turned away at the door. Turns out you need to wear pants and I’ve only brought shorts to SEA. Didn’t feel like “renting” trousers, so ended up doing something a little different – took a river tour!!
I don’t remember how much, but it wasn’t much for us to get in a boat and see Wat Arun and a few less significant sites (including a reptile farm). BORING!! Back to the real world please!!
Mem went to visit with her friends for a few hours while I decided on a massage at Nana Beauty, next door to Dynasty Inn. This is a boom2 parlor and the massage girl ended up giving a spirited HJ.
