I visited Flamingo Beach last week in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica ( North West ).
Flamingo and near by beaches are simply "paradise" in terms of Natural beauty. You can fly directly to Aeropuerto de Liberia and save yourself 4.5 hours drive from San Jose!
We stayed at very nice Hotel called Estela de Fuego ( formerly known as Fantasy Hotel ). Rate $50-65. 300 hundred meters from the hotel you will find a restaurant/disco/casino called Amberes, owned by some kind of Belgium guy. This place works like a normal restaurant till 21:00. ( no cover or minimun consumption ).After that time you will start watching some freelancers arrive. Some of them might even be staying at Estela de Fuego Hotel!.
Chicas are from San Jose, leaving to Flamingo for a nice holidays and some extra money. Lots of 6-7s. Some 8s. Asking price ( as always ) $100. But we managed to get along with $50 for an hour or so.
Amberes is the only night club in the area so do not bother to look anywhere else. Girls and stuff very friendly and cooperative. Enjoy your holidays!

DooDoolv,
Your information is right on time and much appreciated. I'll be in San Jose for 3-4 days next month and then to Guanacaste. I've been to San Jose and Jaco, but never have never been to Guanacaste. I'm hoping to do a little fishing in Guanacaste and I wasn't sure if I would have to wait until I returned to San Jose to enjoy the hobby. Have you been to Tamarindo? and if so how does it compare? Thanks again for great info.

Tamarindo is not far away from Flamingo. ( 1hour or so by car ).
Have not being there for a long time, but I have heard, Flamingo is much better in terms of nightlife and entertaiment. By the way, there is a nice Marina in Flamingo where you can also arrange your fishing. ( I think they charge $800 for a 1 day high sea fishing, all inclusive for up to 5 people ). One guy I met there just caught a 400 pounds Marlin just that morning! Name of the ship was Isabela, owned by a guy named Cantalacio. But there are many others. I guess Flamingo is more cosmopolitan than Tamarindo.

You're right Doodooly. There is not much to Tamarindo. Just a small resort town with mostly unpaved roads. But, there is one place that I know of to enjoy the hobby, Club "Why Not". Club "Why Not" is on the main road into town.

Mello and Doodoolv,
Thanks for the taking the time to provide excellent info....doodoolv,I believe I saw you just returned from Colombia, which do prefer Cartagena or CR??

I personally belive Cartagena is better, even though I must also admit that Americans might feel safer in Costa Rica. Kind of trade-off.
Value for money, Cartagea is better. You can not find the girls in a place like "Dolce Vita" in San Jose for that money.
