The rooms there were much nicer than the Duque. They had a refrigerator and mini bar and they also had a small safe. The bathroom was also much nicer. They had the key like most of the hotels in Thailand do, where you have to put it on the wall for it to activate the electricity and air conditioner for the room.
After being satisfied with the room viewing, I went back downstairs and asked about prices. It was $50 a night for the standard room with one bed, two beds was $60, and the deluxe room which I did not see was $70 a night. The hotel was guest friendly and did not charge an additional fee to bring a lady back for the evening. Breakfast was also included. Just for you though, not the lady.

I then took this opportunity to check out the Atalaya Apart-Hotel. This place was way of the way and I had no idea where we went off to. It was definitely northwest of the Duque de Wellington, but I could not see staying there and being so far away from the action. The main advantage of the place seemed price. There was a decent small apartment room with a kitchenette, stove, and small balcony for 1200 a night. I guess if one was staying in Santo Domingo for an extended period of time, this might be the place to stay. But for a short visit, you would probably do better to stay around the Gazcue District. The two major closet cross streets to this place were Abraham Lincoln and Ave. Sarasota.

By now it was around two or three in the afternoon and I decided to check out Casa de Modelos on Fray Vicente Beltran. It is directly south of the University of Santo Domingo. In fact, if you walk north on Fray Vicente Beltran for about 50 meters, you will see the fence of the university. This street was incredibly busy with foot traffic when I went into the brothel. I was again given the $80 US quote. This time I said I had been there before and paid 2000 and again it was accepted without any hesitation or further haggling. That was down from the 2300 I had paid the last time I was there. So I would really recommend just using the, “I have been here before and paid 1500” line at ALL the massage parlors in Santo Domingo and see where that gets you.

I would recommend trying the 1500 at each place first, however.
