Back to BKK

ClubHombre.com: -TripReports-: Trip Report Archive: Asia: Thailand: 2004 Reports: 2004/03 Steeel - First Impressions of Thailand from a TJ Addict: Back to BKK

By Steeel on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 12:52 am:  Edit

When I got back to BKK after all the things I had done in Chiang Mai and Phuket, it seemed like I had been gone for a month instead of just seven days. With a slight case of nausea and having fucked like an animal for the last week, I wasn't keen on doing any serious mongering right away. Story of my life, in sex paradise and I got a headache. Oh well, I relaxed and had a great time for the next three days anyway.

My Thai buddy set me up at the Choaphrya hotel on Rachada just up the road from the Grand and Poseidon. A first class joint. I gotta give it five stars. Too bad its not real close to the ground zero entertainment area, but should be fairly convenient when that subway line is completed.

My buddy got me a rate of 1500B, and have seen the same on their website. Check it out if you like clean, comfortable and good service.

Wanting to get me closer to the Sukhumvit action, somehow my buddy sweet talked the girl at the desk and was able to get me out of the three night minimum deal. Don't think I would have been able to do that had I been on my own.

Checked into the Royal Benja hotel at the foot of Soi Seven later that day at an outrageous low rate these guys had set up for me through one of their army friends. The Benja was ok but at the bottom end of quality compared to the other places I stayed. My room had some funky odors whenever I switched the AC off. Location was good though, walking distance to alot of fun zones.

There is a heavy concentration of Arabs, Africans, and Indians close to the hotel. Walking through some of the alleys in that area was kind of like leaving Thailand and entering the Casbah or something. Cross to the other side of Sukhumvit and its all westerners. Most of the girls I saw on the street seemed to be pretty hardball pros that didn't appeal to me.

Same in some of the clubs I hit. Too much of a hustle I didn't want to deal with. Never did get back into mongering during my last days in country, so that's about the end of my report, except for some closing thoughts.

Almost everywhere I went in LOS, the locals were interested to know if I liked their country and if and when I would be returning. There seems to be a real awareness among the people that if they show alot of hospitality now, they will reap bigger rewards at a later date. Don't know if it's related to the Buddhist teachings of the future and how it connects to the present or what. I saw it as a striking contrast to the way of thinking you find in TJ where its all about how much they can get from the gringo right now because they are thinking they will never see you again. The Mexicans would do well start learning to think about the future rather than always going for the quick kill. Not to say that there aren't thieves and cheaters in LOS, but from what I've seen, there is no question that the tourist industry is much more highly evolved and robust in LOS than it is in Mexico and a big reason for that has to be the general awareness among the local population that if the tourists are happy they will return and when they return everyone benefits.

The Thais have evolved prostitution to a fine art. The staff at Adelitas would do well to visit and take notes. It was nice to walk into a club and not have an obnoxious DJ calling everyone a mother fucker every thirty seconds. And I didn't experience a single foul smelling pussy the whole trip. Since my return, I've been to TJ a couple of times but its not the same anymore. A little bit of the luster has worn off. I still love TJ, but if I was driving south and there were two gates at the border, one says BKK and one says TJ, I'd become a BKK addict for sure.

Steeel

GREAT REPORT!! It's always fun to read about someone taking a different path in the same town...

I know what you mean about TJ just not having the same appeal after a gorgeous Thai girl GFE/molests you ALL NIGHT for less then you pay that fat ass TJ whore to say "feeneesh" for 15 minutes between the knocks on the door.

I'm certain I'll bump into you roaming around the Nana area in the next few months!!

Welcome to paradise...

Great write up Steeel, you certainly did more in two weeks than many of us have done in years. Hope you'll continue to explore LOS and offer us up the blow-by-blow reports.

And Yes, stinky receptacles are a HUGE pet peeve for me and something that I rarely, if ever, come across in LOS.

Great report.

I was a TJ monger as well. The way the Thais do it has to do with their culture and their religion. Having a good heart and a cool heart is something to be admired in LOS vs. TJ where it's every man for themselve much like the LA scene where caring for strangers is a rarity.

Even in TJ when you are a repeat customer, the people there are still short sighted on customer service and the logic they work with baffles me. Poor on customer service and greedy as hell. They actually seem to hate US visitors for the most part and the mexicans get a kick when the DJ at ABs or the lead singer of Mana yells out pinche gingos.

If you guys think Thailand is good I'd advise that you should consider giving PI a try. ;o)

Great report by the way Steeel. Good to see that there a still newbies out there willing go against the grain and try places that have a less touristy, more gfe type approach. I love Chiang Mai as a place and for the occasional scorcher you can find there. At certain times of the year CM can be one of Thailands best kept secrets.
