The Trip
This is my trip report, YMMV. I went on the spur of the moment because the planets seem to be aligned for it. I’m in sales, so I don’t take vacations. Decided to look for another job, so I finally took 2 weeks of vacation. No girlfriend, no commitments beyond my family. But the real deciding factor of the trip was Koro agreeing to be a tour guide during his May trip. Having a “regular” visitor who spoke Thai to show me the ropes, made it seem an acceptable adventure. I will compare things with TJ as that is what I am used to and it might help others visualize the place.
I read what I could on the web. Most useful were Nanapong.com, Stickman’s site, Nanaplaza.com, JRSSG.com and of course Club Hombre and all of your insights.
Studied D’Artangan and Xenono’s Trip Report, as it was current, with Bangkok information. Also looked at about anything that came up on a Yahoo search for: Bangkok, BKK, Thailand, Girls, Bars, Go-Go, Massage, in various combinations.
I spent $2111 from April30-May 11, 9 days in BKK 2 ½ days and a time zone in transit. $200 on hotel and laundry, $661.00 for the airfare (Sandra at Travel Network 858- KAL 747’s for the LA-BKK portion.) Took $1250 in Travelers Checks. In addition to the $2111, I spent $250 for a Suit/2shirts/1tie.
Over 20 hours in transit. Damn, it seems to last forever. Koro has a prescription med to help him sleep. Pills don’t set well on my stomach so I just killed time. Fortunately this plane had screens built into the back of the seats. Ended up watching 4 movies.
Stewardesses are cute. Trying to prepare to distinguish between the Asian nationalities. With the benefit of his years of experience, Koro said, “he can’t even get it straight.” Oh well. I was trying to get a feel for the look of Thai women. I pointed out what I like and asked if I could find it there. His response is summarized as “just wait until you get there”.
The return flight was late at night. I was exhausted so sleep came easier. After the long haul and dark plane, San Diego seemed surreally bright. What a lovely place.
