It had been about a year since my first visit to Mazatlan so I was overdue to revisit one of my favorite mongering destinations.
I had been planning the long road trip South for months. A Mexican friend of mine and I were going to take my little red Nissan pick-up all the way to Guadalajara. To some of you, such a long drive may seem nuts. But I had numerous reasons for driving. First of all, I love to drive. I love adventure! It allows me to really see the country. I have criss-crossed the U.S. many times in the past. So I thought, why not Mexico? I had made numerous drives from Tucson to Hermosillo over the past 12 months without a problem and I was all set with my Mexican insurance and permits.
Secondly, my friend did not have the money to pay his way and I didn't want to buy a bus or plane ticket. It turns out his little vacation had to be cut short and I had to purchase a bus ticket home for him anyway - but I will explain that later.
Finally, this was not to be a trip totally dedicated to mongering. Besides fucking, I also enjoy some of lifes other pleasures. History, culture, archeology, geology, etc. I'm sure many of the rest of CH members share in these interests also.
Nogales to Guadalajara is about 1,000 miles. Driving in daylight only for safety, I decided to divide my drive up into four sections. Tucson to Los Mochis the first day (that would be the longest stretch). Los Mochis to Mazatlan the second day, then Mazatlan to Tepic and Tepic to Guadalajara the final two days.
I have already posted my trip report about Guadalajara under that respective section. Suffice it to say, that I agree with Explorer 8939 that GDL is not a good place for mongering. It is the most expensive Mexican city I have ever visited. Over the course of the next several days, I intend to also post my reports on the rest of the above mentioned cities in their appropriate sections.
