On this visit, since I had wheels, I had a lot more freedom to choose the hotel I wanted. As many of you know from my previous reports on Hermosillo, I prefer the places that Mexicans call "Motels de Paso" and I call "No Tell Motels". Well, Mazatlan is no different than most Mexican cities in that some very nice No Tells are located on the periphery of the city. Both of the below hotels are located on the highway that leads to Culiacan. If you fly into Mazatlan these places will actually be much closer to the airport than the Zona Dorado hotels.
Please remember, that as with most No Tell Motels, the weekend rates will be dramatically higher than the weeknight rates (if you can obtain a room for all night at all). Also, as with most No Tells, these rooms are impeccably clean, have satellite porno, their own private carports and excellent security. I challenge anyone on this board to find a hotel in the Zona Dorado that offers the same.
EL EDEN MOTEL
The precise address is: Carretera Internacional S/N Entronque hogar del Pescador (salida sur). Tel. 80-83-80. The rate for a room with a Jacuzzi was $400 pesos for 12 hours and $600 pesos for all night. A room without a Jacuzzi was $200 pesos for 12 hours and $400 pesos for all night.
XTASIS MOTEL (Spanish spelling of "Extasy")
This place is just across the road from Eden. The address is: Carretera International Al Nte. S/N Col. El Venadillo. I do not have a telephone number. The rates are the same as El Eden. The rooms are a little smaller but very nice.
