FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST!!!!
Now on to some good stuff from CTG (I´ll skip Cali since it was extensively covered and didn´t do much besides go to the malls and dance clubs)
PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS:
I kind of like Cartegena (CTG) with all its wonderful permutations. Tons of great stuff on the place on this site and others so I´ll just provide some personal obervations based on my experience in different venues.
The beaches and tourist area in Cali is fairly nice, with lots of great hotels, shops and restuarants. The waves are kind of puny by So. Cal standards, but the beach and waters looked decent enough to go swimming and lounging around. It´s certainly not the torqouis blue waters and white sands of Cancun or Cabo, but it´s nevertheless a nice area to hang out.
Most of the other areas around CTG (with over 1 million residents) is dirty, run down and reminiscent of Cali or a third world country. It´s interesting to see the contrast between the nicer beach areas versus the rest of the city (kind of like Cancun). There is a lot of history and old world architecture in CTG if you´re into that kind of stuff.
The people are very friendly here, and you´ll run into a lot of Americans, Europeans and South Americans unlike Cali. Interestingly, the U.S. dollar is the currency of choice as opposed to the Colombian peso. Obviously, things are a lot more expensive here compared to Cali.
GIRLS (Non-Working Girls)
There are some really beautiful girls all over the place, especially near the main beach street of Avenida San Martin and walking around the sands, where you´ll also find alot of nice restaurants, shops, etc. A lot of Romantic sidewalk restaurants and cafes if you´re with your novia.
I really haven´t tried picking up on the local girls here, but they seem receptive and very friendly. Some hotties at my hotel Dal Prieto. I´m sure it´s available if you put some time and effort into it.
THE BEACH
My favorite area turned out to be the beach area near Las Velas Hotel, where the famous-infamous Tony the tout is located. It was crowded with tourists and families over the weekends, but the crowds are tamer during the weekdays. Lots of aggressive vendors. You can rent a little tent from Tony, but his reputation for trying to overcharge is true. To Tony´s credit, he did hook me up with a couple of nice, young beauties from MDE and is good about beating back the aggressive vendors that try to hawk all sorts of stuff.
There are lots of pretty girls in bikinis walking around, some of them working.
THE WORKING GIRLS
I´ll go into the details of the clubs and p4p places later, but generally, the working girls here are average, with a sprinkling of 8s and 9s at some of the nicer clubs such as the Famed La Dolce Vida. Most, if not all, the working girls hail from MDE, CALI, or other parts of Colombia. I met local girls, but not working. The girls tell me they come here to CTG to work precisely to get away from famly and friends. I encountered more Paisas or MDE girls, who are the prettiest IMO.
BEACH HOOKUP
While BSing with Tony, 2 hotties from heaven sauntered up and asked to sit next to me. Just one look was all it took, a pair of 18 y.o. cousins from MDE who wanted a drink with me. They were just simply gorgeous. I spent quite a bit of time with the girls and took one, Kathleen, with me to the hotel and promised her cousin I´d do the same later.

I wasn´t disappointed with Kathleen as this girl had a tight body with small, well formed (all natural) tits that I adore. Kind of like a Colombian version of a spinner from LOS. Tight pussy on this girl, 18 y.o. and suffice it to say that I´m a big fan of hers now.

I don't know where you got the idea that the US dollar is preferred. You will pay a premium for using dollars. I live in CTG 6 months per year and never use dollars. Get pesos from ATM's.

While I certainly can't say that I live 6 months a year in CTG, I was there long enough and 've been to enough mongering places to realize when certain people prefer dollars. For instance, each casa initially gave me the bill in dollars (Casa International, Manila House, Navigator, Casa Merinero, etc) and I paid them in dollars. All the girls accepted dollars, no questions asked. I had a cheat sheet downloaded from Oanda.com that I referred to often.
Moreover, my bank charged me $3.50 per each ATM transaction and the limit at the Convavi (sp?) bank off San Martin was only 200K. I found it more convenient to use dollars and had no problems with it in CTG.
