I looked through my old passport and realized it had actually been over 6-7 years since I had been to BA and alas, it had been a quick business trip without any mongering. Rare for me but known to happen on occasion.

I wanted/needed to get out of town for a few days so a quick hop to BA sounded like a good adventure. Coupled with the fact my good buddy GodFather was on his maiden voyage to establish residency and the temptation was just too great. I almost had Sweetmesquite talked into joining me but a bad case of the Rio crud dampened his exhuberance.

Armed with a great weekend all inclusive package from Bobby (airfare, transportation, hotel (Etoile), breakfast Etc. at a price that was not much more than the cost of airfare alone, I was off and running.

The flight was uneventful (best kind), late (so whats new) and there stood my driver when I emerged from customs. It had been a beautiful day in BA but I was tired as hell and decided to turn in early.

Made contact with GF the next day. He had just arrived on Fri., was unpacking but we agreed to meet for a drink. It was great seeing him after almost 18 months and we reminisced over dinner, talked about his move to BA and generally caught up with each others lives. He is a world class guy and fun to hang with anywhere. (Watch the portions at many restaurants. More than one person can probably eat....and cheap too!). With dinner finished and knowing he has a ton of stuff to do to get settled, I ask for a recommendation of where I should go on my first full evening in town. Like dangling meat in front of a hungry dog. We are off to Madalhos.

It is early and not many people. GF introduces me to one of the waiters who is a friend. Guy lived in N.J for several years but is now living in B.A. Bobby shows us to a table and we order a coffee. He chats with us for a while and we decide to check out Black and return later. Madalhos is a really upscale nightclub kind of place. You might think you were in a swanky club in S. Beach or some other major city. The only difference being that all the girls are takeout and available.

We head over to Black, pay the cover and order a drink. Place has about 40 girls. One really cute blond catches both of our eyes and we muse on the quality of the rest. Girls in Black are not allowed to approach you unless you call them over. GF calls over one he knows that is Brasilian. We chat for a few minutes and she asks for a drink. She gets sent on her way. Rest were in the 6-7 range with an 8 or so thrown in the bunch. We decide to head back to Mad's.

We walk in and the place has a lot more people. GF comments that most of the time it is packed but slow on Sat nights. Bobby gets us a table and we order a drink. We are viewing the eye candy and watching the stage show while catching up on old times. We are both tired from long trips and busy days so we call it a night and make plans to return another time. Nothing was really igniting my rockets anyway so no problem going home alone.

Slept late the next morning (not like me), had breakfast, read a little and decided to walk around a bit. Huge fair in the park in front of Etoile so I did some shopping. Leather goods are cheap in BA and I managed some good finds. I also hopped a cab to an area that is like a garmet district in BA (thanks GF). Bought a great leather coat for just over $100US. Would cost $350 or more in the states.

GF had given me a number and address for an outcall place. I hopped a cab, went by but since it was a holiday weekend and Sunday, not many girls were there and nothing jumped out at me. I returned to the hotel, took a long nap (anticipating a late night) and walked out to have some dinner. Raining, little colder and not many people milling around. Had an awesome filet and salad (think the total was around $13US) and left a lot on the plate I couldn't finish. I am getting up to walk away and here comes GF. We decide to check out a smaller local place called Solomon (is that the correct spelling GF?). Anyway, small cozy little place with lots of locals. Girls milling in and out, some leaving with clients, more entering but nothing really exciting. GF and I lock onto one and funny as hell, she turns out to be Brasilian. GF calls her over and we all chat for a while. She spoke English, Spanish and of course Portuguese. She was quite good at switching between the languages too. GF is much better in Spanish, I am much better in Port. and when we both got stumped, we switched to English. It was a done deal for GF and I kept looking. He was getting antsy so I asked for 20 more minutes in hopes something would walk in that caught my eye. Nothing did. He dropped me off at my Hotel around 1:00AM. I fought with myself about going back out to another place but wound up going to my room and going to sleep.

When I woke up Monday morning (my departure day), I realized I had been in BA 2 days and had not sessioned. Oh well, it wasn't really a mongering trip in the first place but damn, one has to sample the local fare when one travels. I went back to the outcall place and selected a cutie. She was 24, blond and returned to my hotel with me. (You can do on site or they will go back to your place). Only did an hour with her (100 pesos plus taxi). Nothing spectacular but had a fairly nice body and very pleasant attitude.

Got a late check out and headed for the airport. Glad I was there early. Long line at check-in; long line at departure tax; long line at immigration. (Funny thing happened at Immigration. They had run out of departure forms. No one knew what to do about it and it was holding up the entire process. Finally a guy comes over and tells all the agents to just forget about it and let people through. Two female agents started arguing with him that they had to have the forms. He said something to the effect that nobody ever looked at them anyway, he was the boss and they would do as he said. Macho latin guy at his best!). Arrived 2.5 hours ahead of flight and made the flight with only 20 minutes to spare.

Another interesting tidbit. In BA, they checked my bags through to Rio, even though I was changing planes in S.P.? I always thought you had to go through customs at your first point of entry with "all" your luggage. Seems Brasil does not require this with Arg. I waited in SP for my luggage, missed my original flight but found my luggage waiting for me in Rio when I arrived? Go figure??

I'll go back someday soon, as BA is a very pleasant city. Much more upscale than Rio, people dress up, great restaurants with great food at affordable prices. Will probably stay at one of GF's Apt's next time and will go with the intent of mongering more. Can't honestly say I saw a bevy of beauties but it was a holiday weekend, raining and chilly at night. Plus, BA is a late night town. We probably didn't give it the chance it deserved for the second shift to arrive. It was kind of humurous that the only girls that caught our attention (except the blond) were Brasilerias?????

It was a good visit with an old friend, got lots of sleep, walked around the Recoleta area a lot, found some good buys on leather goods, ate some great food (Arg. beef has to be the best in the world) and added another country to the mongering list.

Now, back in Brasil and wondering what I'll be doing today?

You barely added another country to the mongering list...are you slipping, Sandman? Nonetheless, it does sound like it was a relaxing and enjoyable time. I'm looking forward to a visit to BA and Godfather this coming year. It's been awhile for me as well. Since I'll be living in Porto Alegre, BA will be just a short hop for me.

Hey..it was GREAT seeing you again Sandman. Always nice to spend time with a friend. You hit BA on the weekend which surprisingly isn't the best time to go to the clubs.
