After a very successful maiden trip to Rio in Nov 2001, it was time to do more research carioca style. This is my report from my trip, May 11 to May 26 2002.

Hotel

I stayed at the Rio Roiss for 160R per night. Cheaper accommodations can be made at apartments, which can also provide a safe and cable tv. Hotel staff checked with me every time garota left my room so that was better than my last time when they usually did not check with me all the time.

Leave most of your belongings in safe and you should not have to worry about anything. Garota has to leave her id at desk or she does not go up with you.

The hotel Debret, 2 blocks south of Help, is also garota friendly with outstanding ocean view but at a higher cost, 200R range.

Food

There are a lot of churrascos and sucos shops along Ave Nossa Copacabana.

One of the best churrasco is the Green Grill, 3 blocks south of Miguel Lemos. A churrasco offers skewed meat cooked right in front of you.

The Green Grill charges by weight so you pay only what you take out. The beef is incredible, lots of other choice but the beef is what stands out, good source of protein anyway. Decent desserts available. Other churrascos are good but I noticed lots of locals, garotas ended at the Green Grill.

YoungTom and I had dinner in Ipanema at this upscale restaurant Ristorante Italiano, located on Rua Gomes Carneiro, 132, about a block from Centaurus. The food was excellent, top of the line, probably better than most restaurants in my hometown in SoCal, which is known for its high quality restaurants.

I had some sushi in Ipanema, ½ block from the ocean, very good as well but you can find same quality in SoCal.

For Sucos, I keep going to Sucos Kice, which is located one block from Rio Roiss. I mentioned cacau morango (strawberry) in my last trip but in this trip the strawberries were not as good so I will suggest some other ones:

Fruta Conda, same fruit exists in South East Asia, green fruit with leaf outside like an artichoke, inside is yellowish white with black seeds.
For energy, locals take guarana. I cannot confirm it helped my stamina but milk chocolate looking and pretty tasty.
I tried also the Fruta forte, purplish color, very sweet so to be tried once in a while.
Clorophyl drink also available, a bit sweet too but contains ginseng and muira puama.
Try the coco especial, very sweet milk coconut.
I also tried the mangua but nothing special here

If you go eat at the Green Grill, as you step to your left leaving restaurant, stop by suco after crossing first street and try their Sugar Cane, 1 Real, will hit the spot I guarantee.

Corcovado

Man I must be getting older as I did some sight seeing on this trip. By taxi 20R each way, went to Corcovado see Christ the Redeemer. Best view of Rio, can see Copa, Ipanema, estadio Maracana, Centro. Good for a 30 min stay to take pictures. Food available, I tried the hamburger, not bad at all.

There is a train available that will take you to the top and is more scenery than a taxicab but the taxicab was good enough for me.

Shopping

Two malls to go shopping: Rio Sul and Barra Tijuca.
I went only to the Rio Sul mall right by tunnel as you exit Copa from Ave Princess Isabel.

There you will find plenty of shops for CD's, shoes, sports stores, clothing. You will notice right away, stores hire too many sales clerks, they usually are very polite and always try to help. But what stood out for me was how pretty some of them were, more like models than sales clerks. To think than most were very available, tempted me to go after non program garotas.

Supposedly some program garotas advertise in the paper the location where they will look for hooks but I never saw any garota on the program there.

But I liked Centaurus for its younger selection. Bad part is you have to pay upfront 290R so better know you are picking a garota when entering the club. I was disappointed in the attitude of many garotas at Help and Barbarella. Maybe it was me as I can speak Portuguese now but I did not feel that way on my last trip.

Overall a solid but not sensational trip...

The best for anyone is to check local chinese herb store and ask for YSL. I was told same manufacturer is working on a viagra herb.
