Unfortunately, most places advertised on salsa websites (americasalsa.com, salsapower.com, salsaweb.com) are out of business. Recession? Lack of interest? Whatever. Here's a small review of some.
-------------
Azucar (Rivadavia at 3300)
ar$5 the entrance. Went there a Friday after 1AM. Nice place, nice crowd. Very laid back, no girls provocatively dressed. It seems that on Saturdays the place gets more crowded and music more varied.
---------------
Champs Elysées (BA design center, Azcuenaga St and Pueyrredon Ave).
A daylight coffee shop that turns out into a salsa disco on Friday nights.
A LOT of potential there (girls seated by pairs or by 4, waiting to be invited to dance), although small place and most girls over 30. Most people know each other, which provides the feeling that it is a closed community. salsa, cha-cha-cha, merengue. The usual.
You pay what you drink. That easy.
------------
Puerto Libre (Santa Fe Ave 2512, almost the corner with Pueyrredon)
Lame place. At 1:30 on Friday it was empty. ar$3 the entrance. It doesn't seem very upscale.
Hope this helps,
Andres
