Flight to Cartagena was uneventful. One thing I realized right away was tremendous humidity and hot weather. I had experience heat and humidity in SEA but this one seemed to be more intense but again I may be mistaken as it was my first heat/humidity wave this year. I had arranged for a tour guide through a non-CH and non-sex site and this tour guide came with very high recommendations. His name was Fabiany and I will NOT be using him again as he turned out to be nothing but a tout trying to extort money on any chance he got. Anyway, Fabiany was waiting for me at the airport and we got a taxi and went to find my apartment. The apartment turned out to be an OK but of course it was not a Marriott and I had to buy soap, toilet paper, and other things. See some of the photos of the apartment. Apartment address is: SOL DEL CARIBE #803. I got the apartment via Mery Salence who came with high recommendations from this board. The apartment had a mediocre air condition and apartment was really hot. More on this later on.



After settling down in the apartment we decided to see the old city of Cartagena and I really enjoyed visiting the old town. The old town is remarkable and Fabiany kept telling me how Americans are buying apartments and houses in the old town and then rent them out to tourists. He mentioned it was a great investment opportunity. He also mentioned prices for the apartment and houses ranged from $15,000 - $ 75,000. The old town is really fascinating and I took a few photos.





We walked for hours and at one corner I saw a group of kids preparing for street dance. These dance shows were just brilliant. These kids could move their bodies in an extent that I thought was not possible and these kids had a ton of energy. I think some of the dance moves that Shakira and Fergie (black eye pea) use may have been stolen from these kids or vice versa. Here are some of the photos of the dance. After a huge dinner and spending more time at the old city I asked Fabiany to call some numbers for me and arrange a visit to different casas. The first girl I really wanted to see in Cartagena was Julieth that caught my attention from Merlin’s recent Cartagena trip report. This is the girl that Merlin labeled as “almost perfect 10”. Anyway, Fabiany got the address of the casa where Julieth worked and right away claimed it was the same casa he was going to take me to as our first stop. I really doubt that as this casa was away from town and the one he was trying me to go to first was somewhere close to the old city. Anyway, we got a taxi and went to see the casa where Julieth worked. The name and address of the casa is: Casa de Marino, Nuevo Campestre Street 10 No. 56B-51. Phone 657 36 25. Funny thing is I got the phone number of Julieth from Merlin and I had Fabiany call her right when I landed in Cartagena and the girl who answered said her name was Wendy and she can come to see me in a few minutes. So we negotiated the price and gave her the address where my apartment was and it turned out that the girl was 5 hours away from Cartagena and she thought we were calling her from her town. Merlin mentioned Julieth may have gone back to her home in Medellin or close to Medellin so I thought Julieth must have returned home and I was a bit disappointed to find this out. Anyway, I wanted to go the Casa de Marino as there were some other girls that got my attention from Merlin’s report. As Merlin mentioned in his report this casa is kind of converted warehouse and when we showed up there we were the only men and there must have been 20+ girls. I ordered a Heineken and it was a cold one and I really enjoyed drinking Heineken and looking at the girls. There was a set of twins who came and sat with us and I thought what the heck lets take them both and add another chapter to my mongering history, identical twins; never had them before. Just when I was going to bar fine these sisters I saw Julieth sitting in a corner with some other girls. I asked the waiter if she was indeed Julieth and he affirmed. I had him call her and sit with us and she came and first thing she asked was how I knew her name. I mentioned a friend of mine told me and she wanted to know who the friend was. I thought she acted like she was in panic and wanted to find out who else knows she works here. Anyway, she calmed down a bit and had beer with us and then I asked her if she was interesting in going with me which she was and we quickly settled the bill and were on our way to my apartment. There was something strange about this girl, sometimes she acted like she was really into me and was happy to be going with me and sometimes she was just lost in her thoughts. At one point she wanted to get some condoms and I said I already had some and then she wanted to get a pack of cigarettes which I got her. When we reached the apartment I gave Fabiany money to buy me some beer, bottled water, and some snacks. As soon as Fabiany left she took all of her clothes off and started kissing me and taking my clothes off. I mentioned Fabiany was coming back but she just did not care. The girl is simply stunning. A perfect body and a perfect face. I started fondling her and was really getting into enjoying her when Fabiany knocked at the door. Julieth did not care to dress up or anything and just sat there. I got the things from Fabiany and paid him for his service. Another thing I forgot to mention, I arranged Fabiany for all my stay in Cartagena and he agreed to it but when I landed in Cartagena he mentioned he was not available the next day due to another obligation and I was really disappointed that he should have let me known in advance so I could have arranged someone else. Anyway, Fabiany asked if he could come back day after tomorrow and I said I would call him if I needed him.

It is about 5 AM now and my laptop is broken so I could not play Shakira music which she likes but I have it on my MP3 so I played my MP3 and both of us are singing holding each other and dancing slowly. Around 6 or so we go for another round, may be 5th or 6th one and then we fall asleep around 8 AM or so.

I had arranged another LDV girl through Fabiany to meet me at noon at my apartment and at 11:30 Julieth is still with me and is awaking up. I mentioned I had to meet another friend and she has to go and she agreed and I gave all the pesos I had on me and that brought a huge smile to her face. As soon as she left I grab a cab and go to the nearest ATM to get more pesos, what the fxxx, the limit on this ATM was only 200K per transaction, so I had to do 3 transactions to get 600K out of it. Back to the apartment and the next girl, Michelle is waiting for me at the security guard. Another stunner but not as good looking as Julieth, Michelle was going to stay with me for 6 hours. After we had a great session I was completely exhausted and wanted to take a nap. I mentioned she could take a nap with me or she could leave and she decided to take a nap. We took a nap till may be 4:30-5:00 PM and had another session and settled the bill and sent her home. Now my camera’s memory is becoming full as I could not transfer my images to my laptop and have to be selective with taking more photos.

My plan was to visit other casas at the evening and I took a cab and went to pleyboy, this place had a few stunners but they seemed too young for my taste and the last thing I wanted to do was to get in trouble for doing an under age girl. One funny thing though, I was able to find a Kosher restaurant right next to an internet café so I had some kosher meal, everything else I was doing was non-kosher. Oh well. I browsed through Merlin report one more time and I just realized I have not done any beach scene and I was leaving for Barranquilla next day. It was late at night and too late to do a beach scene. So I started playing with my dates to see if I could have an additional day in Cartagena. At the same time I was thinking of Julieth and the wild and sensitive time we had together. After 11 or so I went back to LDV and still not too much going on and it started to rain as well. So I took a taxi and went back to Casa de Marino. As soon as I entered I saw Julieth who came rushing before any other girl had a chance to talk to me and I asked her if she would like to go with me and also promise me she would sleep when I ask her to and she smiled and promised she would not kill me tonight. I settled the bill and took a cab back to my apartment. Now it was raining really hard but we made it to the apartment building. My apartment was on the 8th floor and when we entered the apartment it was full of water on the floor. I checked all the windows and everything were closed. Julieth noticed a wall and water was pouring in from that wall. What the fxxx. My suitcase and computer bag were all wet and there was water standing in the bed room. I went down to the security desk and have them call Mery but mery would not pick her phone up. The security guard came up and started helping me clearing out the water but it was just not stopping.




I was really mad at the whole situation and asked security guard to help me find another apartment or a hotel. He made a few calls but could not find anything. I had him call Hilton and I talked to them and they said they were all sold out for the night but could accommodate me the next day. I was just getting really angry at the whole situation and realized I made a bad choice going with apartment. At least in a hotel there are people to help you with that kind of stuff and provide you with alternative accommodation. On top of that I was really tired and things were just kept going south. Julieth was trying to calm me down and kept saying “no problem”. Needless to say I was up all night getting rid of water and at the same time trying to have fun with Julieth. I was going to go to Barranquilla in the morning and had already arranged a taxi for it and taxi showed up at 9:00 AM. I sent Juleith home and asked the taxi driver to take me to Hilton and we had to arrange another time for Barranquilla. By the way, Mery called before I left and said it was not her fault that water came to the apartment. The guard told me this apartment had this problem before so I was not sure who to blame or what to do. I would advise everyone on the board to stay away from this apartment I already mentioned the address above.

By the way, the guy in the robot photo is not me. Have no clue who he is and must have popped in when I was taking the photo.

Jkarp, thanks for this long awaited write up of your CTG portion of the trip. I'm really glad you had the opportunity to hook up with Julieth and am even more excited to read that she turned out to be better than expected in all respects. I kind of knew she would be a bit surprised that someone would know her and I am thankful you were able to put her at ease with it. She was initially reluctant to give me any personal info and phone #.

It's rare to find such a stunner working the casas, and even rarer to find someone who's as sincerely nice as her and who is a genuine GFE IMO. I hope she has more and better experiences with good, quality guys like you, b/c she mentioned that she hated working at the casa b/c of how idiotic some guys were to her. I guess that's why she teared up when you took such good care of her.

I'm sorry to hear that the Apt didn't work out as planned, I'm having second thoughts now about the Apt. In fact, I actually had a great experience at the little hotel I stayed at and may consider going back there.

That Fabiany guy seems like the typical driver/tout that I encountered all over CTG. Unlike Cali, alot more fleecing in CTG b/c of all the tourists. I'm always puzzled how some of these touts can't think of the long term, and focus so intently on short term profits.

Hey Merlin, thanks for sharing the contact info of Julieth. She was one of my best experience in life and a completely GFE as the first night either we talked, had sex, or danced and we did that all night long. My cartagena trip was worth just to meet her. Without her I would have rated Cartagena a below average place for my taste, too hot and humid, not very honest people in general, language problem, and way too many touts. If I ever go back to Cartagena it would be for Juleith or someone like Julieth, otherwise, there are a lot better places for our hobby around the world and even in Colombia.

Julieth was such a nice experience that I feel like flying back to Cartagena, take her with me and may be go to Cali, Medellin, or San Andres.

Great, great write-up. I'm a believer in giving little gifts - some guys are all business and say that giving them pesos is their gift. I don't doubt that those guys get good service from good providers, but I think a little gift can sometimes get you to the next service level. But to each his own.

JKarp, you're scaring me when you say that the heat and humidity was worse in CTG that SEA. Hopefully it only felt that way because it was your first heat wave in a long time. I check the weather in 10 cities on a daily basis and CTG is usually at least 5 degress cooler than BKK with about the same humidity. While excessive heat and humidity is not a dealbreaker, for me it is still a huge consideration.

Another great thing about Medellin is the nonexistence of touts. That's gotta get old real fast.

Sorry to hear about the apartment. Guess Merry (who I've only read RAVES about on this and another board) puts the rain under the Act of God clause. In NYC Landlord/Tenant Court, however, that's clearly the Landlord's problem to rectify.

I've read that apartments are the way to go in CTG, but I don't really want to buy toilet paper when I'm on vacation. In fact, I don't even like to wipe my own ass on vacation. Obviously the water situation was bad, because you were low on storage space in your camera and you chose to document the water damage rather than save space to take chica photos!

Still sounds like you had an awesome time. Julieth sounds like a winner.

jkarp, I have had several friends stay in that apt so I spoke to Mery about the problems that you had after seeing the pics, because she also rents my apt in Edifico Marinare

The 2 aircon units are newly fitted earlier in the year, a couple of months after they were fitted, there was a small leak in the same unit you had a problem with, that leak just caused a bit of paint pealing in that case, Merys aircon engineer repaired the problem, her aircon engineer did not fit the original units.

After you left he came and looked at the aircon unit and apparently the original engineer had done a very bad job on the water pipes which are inside the wall, he only found this out after they took some of the wall out, otherwise he would have noticed the potential problem when he did the first repair.

She didn't explain to me why she wasn't answering the phone, but she said that she didn't charge you for that day, I should think so to.

I agree with you that is one potential problem with renting apts, if something goes wrong in the early hours of the morning, in a hotel there is always somebody on duty and they can probably just move you to another room, but with an apt, you might not be able to get hold of somebody straight away.

Actually I had a similiar problem on my second stay in Ctg in the Old City back in 2001, a aircon unit dumped water all over the floor, just one of those things.

Nice report jkarp..Cartagena is all about timing. You were there during low season. All the college girls go back to school at the end of July. Also many Colombians vacation there during June and July as well.
There is a huge drop off of available hot girls after this. The touts and the humidity become even more annoying when there is less talent to look at.

Some comments:

I would say the heat and humidty in Cartagena are similiar to Pattaya, but not as bad as Bangkok.

The Old City is fantastic, the prices in the old town are more like $30,000 - $700,000 for apts and houses.

Touts in Ctg, a huge pain in the ass.

Some ATMs only give 200k, but most give 300 - 400k and some 500k, depends on the bank.

Best time to go to the LDV is just after midnight, but I would say the beach for pros or the streets in the Old City for non pros who are interested in tourists for a present etc during the day are far better than the LDV.

I also monitor weather on a dozen cities or so and that was kind of surprising to feel that heat and humidity in Cartagena. May be there is not enough wind or some other factor that I can't explain but I felt really uncomfortable in Cartagena for the first day and then I think either it got better or I got used to the weather and did not feel that bad. About the apartment and Hilton there is so much price difference that you feel like going with apartment. But what I experienced with the apartment, and that was the first time I even stayed in an apartment when vacationing, I don't think I am going to repeat it. Sometimes it is worth to spend extra money and have an ease of mind if anything goes wrong there would be someone to take care of it. And in case of an international or US establishment you can even claim damages as what I experienced in the apartment with my computer bad and luggage.

I think Mery is a good person and I would do business with her again. However, the incidenet did ruin a great night and messed up all my luggage and comuter bag. Mery did not charge me for a day and it was a little comfort as if I were in a hotel I would have asked them to pay for the laundry and other expenses. And Mery wanted to make it better but I said I was going to Cali or something, I did not want to give her another chance on that day but now I think I may give her another try if I ever go back to Cartagena. You are right about LDV, nothing much happening over there before midnight.
Wow. Houses prices go for upto $700,000. I would not have guessed that high and actually there was nothing I saw in the old town that would have rated so expensive but again I was there for only a few hours.

Hunter, I forgot to mention one thing. The security guard who was working that night when I had the problem offered me his apartment for 150K pesos but he said I have to leave by 6:00 AM and it was around 1:00 or 2:00 AM when he made this offer. I did not take him on his offer as Hilton had promised me a room by 9:00 AM. But I could not figure out if the guard was trying to help me or was trying to make some money out of my misery, or both.

jkarp it takes me several weeks to get used to the heat in Ctg, many people don't, maybe it was worse for you, because you just came from chilly Bogota.

Mery has 7 apts, I have been in 6 of them, not been in her new in Playa Mar, but several people say thats really nice. I would rate the Sol Del Caribe apt as number seven and the penthose she rents as number 1. My Marinare apt I would rate at as number 2 or 3, I am in Ctg next week, so hopefully she can show me her new apt in Playa Mar.
I agree with the fellow mongers if money is no object I would stay in a good Hotel, it wins hands down, but most of us don't have Wallstreets or Godfathers money.

There are a good hundreds of casas in the Old City, some of them are 2,000 m2, but to the street you just see a door, been into some of them that have been done up and they look awesome. The best place to see the layout is on the top of that ugly apt building next to the University, I went to a friends place in there once on the top floor and he had the Old City laid out beneath him, then you really see the size of some of the houses.
Here is a link to a company selling apts there, although they are aiming at the gringo market, so I would discount their prices by 10-20%.

I very much doubt the security had an apt, but he either has the keys to one, or more likely know people who rent apts and would have then got a nice commision. So he was probably being helpfull, but also hoping to make a few bucks.

Thats one thing I really hate about Ctg, the touts, because Ctg has been a tourists town for 40 years, to many people there are on the make, if you watch the touts they also hassle the Colombian tourists as well, but they can handle them better than most foreigners.

Ctg low season is really for about 10 months of the year, there are two good times to go and the place is packed, they are Miss Colombia and Christmas/New Year, Easter is OK as well.

But Medellin and then Cali are far better than Ctg, hence why I don't live there, but in Medellin. Although I do like to visit friends in Ctg a few times a year and for something differant.

I stayed in Playa Mar #703, Mery's new apartment and its very nice. Marble countertops, fully equipped kitchen, big walk in closet, balcony off the BR, very nice balcony off the living room, I didn't have to buy anything, even had coffee in the morning before I ever hit a store. I thought Mery was wonderful, I took her and her daughter to dinner one night and had a long chat. Seems her husband took her there and then ran off with a young colombiana, so she is on her own. She's 60 yrs old, supports her 26 yr old daughter that lives with her that is developmentally disabled, that's the kind of person that you would expect to rip off a tourist, for survival, but on my first day there she hands me 500K pesos because it was a holiday and the money exchanges were closed and I had no local currency, she just told me to pay her back later, after I had exchanged some money, I hadn't even paid for the apartment yet! In a brief moment of philanthropic weakness the next day, I declined the weekly discount, which was a good chunk and paid her the nightly rate for every day, it didn't hurt me and Im sure it helped her. The apartment that she rented me was very nice, and I found her to be an extremely nice person, no one else will ever get my business in CTG.
If you go back to CTG, give Mery another chance, and ask for the Playa Mar apartment, or the penthouse that Hunter was talking about.
I don't know if the students were in town in Aug, but I could not take 5 steps from my apartment building without seeing a GODDESS!! I had no problem finding quality talent, but perhaps Im not the colombiana aficionado that some of you are. Standing on my balcony and looking down on the street during the first couple of days I wish I had brought a bullhorn or a laser pointer to get the attention of some of the girls on the sidewalk, I saw a few that I might have risked a fall from the 3rd or 4th floor, but I wouldn't leap from the 7th...

What happened was unfortunate and it was my first experience staying in an apartment. I am more like 5 star hotel type guy and prefer convenience over price and that is the reason I always stay in Intercontinental in Cali. Have I choice of hotels in Colombia I will always stay at Marriott as that is where I spend 200+ nights a year. I am sure Mery is a nice person and if I ever go back to Cartagena and decide to stay in an apartment then I will do business with her again, but Hilton in Cartagena was wonderful, as good as it gets any where in the world. It must have been a bad timing for my trip as Cartagena streets were dead and the only action was in LDV or may be beach which I did not explore much. But still I manage to do a good number of girls and good number of pops.

Would I advise others to stay in apartments in Cartagena or any other city in the world, only if you cannot afford a decent hotel or hotel has problems with bringing guests. Other than that, hotels are the best way to go, IMHO.

I stayed in that same apt from Mery in January. I thought it was fine and i too love the 4/5 star hotels, but that is for your wife and kids, not players! The only thing with that apt i would say is that the living room needs an air conditioner like in the bed rooms. We would have to leave the bedroom units on all the time to cool of the living room, then the girls would say its to cold in the bedrooms later.....not too bad, but should be changed. Also, the second bathroom is in the kitchen area and the the toilet is in the shower!! LOL!! also, make sure to turn the hot water unit on or like us it took 2 days before we figured it out..cold water for showers is not bad though, accept for the girls who all like warmer showers, especially for sex...We stayed the next time at Playa Mar, but i think it was on the 2nd or 3rd level and it was someone elses unit, but Mery hooked it up..WOW, this was the place, Marble floors, beautiful panoramic views with palm trees and a pool down below, the 2nd bedroom had bunk beds though, my traveling partner was a little bummed out, but make it work. 120 dlrs a night, I paid 80 of it and he paid 40..also, though no hot water again...hence, no sex in the showers... Mery is an amazing person to work with, I kept on wanting to pay her and she kept on saying "later, I will see you later, don't worry about it" thats the persian in her, very good business person..
