I guess the better things in life are worth waiting for. My third air ticket to Bangkok actually got me there. At this point, I am officially applying for dual memberships in the Latin and Asian camps.

I'll share some quick observations, none of which will amaze the vets, but maybe a few others who wish to make an initial visit will benefit.

I spent my first several days with a semi-pro that I met thru ThailandFriends. Nice girl and I got a quick intro to Bangkok that included guided tours of some well known spots, such as the rotating deck at the top of the tower, and the Palace and huge Wat that is there. She and I went our separate ways after a few days and I reverted to my copious notes on LOS.

I found the Soapies to be disappointing. I tried a few, but the format is a little too structured for my tastes. The whole fishbowl scenario left me a little cold. I guess, even when the girls can’t understand me, I like talking to them a little before committing to some time together. I also tried Annie's and Barron's and liked both of them. They just have a little warmer customer focus.

I walked around NEP and checked things out a few times, but never took a girl from there. They all seemed a little too young, or too hyped, or too something. Interesting enough place and I am sure I will find many over time.

I really liked Tilac on Soi Cowboy. I had been to the Long Gun and was not that impressed. The couple of girls that I saw that I liked at LG, were grabbed early with what looked to be pre-scheduled bar fines with regulars. I went across the street to Tilac and liked the layout and format of the place a lot better. They were attentive without being pushy.

I sat around with a girl for a while and talked with the mamasan Pet as well. Pet is about 40 and over-weight. She is likeable enough and told me that an American owns the place. She said it was her birthday and I bought her a drink just to be on her good side. I would guess that she has had other birthdays this year. Anyway, good place with lots of cute girls.

Drove down to Jomtein Beach with my initial semi-pro buddy. We hung on the beach and ate a bunch of steamed crabs and fresh oysters that we had bought at the Pattaya seafood market. I could get used to living like this. Meant to look-up some ex-pat friends while I was there, but my friend was uncomfortable with meeting my male friends. I’ll be back in Pattaya for Thanksgiving.

Had the pleasure of having a few with an ex-pat friend back in BKK while we looked over the Soi 7 Beer Garden. This is a VERY interesting place, with enough character and characters to last a lifetime. The pool hall across the street has it’s distinct charm as well.

Late in the week I tried one of the hostess bars on Patpong II. I went to the Executive Club that a friend had spoken favorably of in the past. I like this place and the girls and mamasan were all very nice. The hostess bars on Patpong II are very enjoyable venues that I will definitely repeat with. Not as noisy/smoky as the go-gos and based on this one experience the girls were a little better companionship. Met a cutie from Issaan that I took out to eat and then had over-night. Very nice girl, early 30s with a college degree. Most if not all of the girls that I met outside the the Soapies were pleasurable to be with, even with my language problems.

I like Bangkok. Every time you think you know an area, you turn a corner onto another Soi and there is a whole other world of exploring to do. It’s hot, it’s humid, it gives you a headache from the noise, it’s polluted, the cabbies are motherfuckers, oh are they motherfuckers, the city wears you out. My kind of place.

I ended my trip having a light dinner in a place on Soi 11. I got to talking to the bartender, who is a cute lady in her early 30s. She gave me her phone number for when I come back. Sounds like a plan. Maybe I will need two tickets to Koh Samui for New Years.
