Well, let me start off by saying that this will not be some detailed report of all my conquests but rather some general commentary and observations about my first trip to Rio. I initially went back and forth about posting a report (not sure I can add anything that hasn't already been said) but decided to post this report directed to those contemplating a visit to Rio for the first time.

First, I want thank both the Brazil Specialist and Sandman for all their help in making this really one hell of an excellent trip. Also, the camaraderie of other mongers - especially Wicked Willy - visiting at the same time made this an unforgettable experience.

To begin with, I highly recommend utilzing the local knowledge of expertise of BS and Sandman.

Sandman pulled off an excellent VIP party, which would have been very difficult and time consuming on our own. One word - Excellent!

Brazil Specialist is also an excellent resource and possibly a good place to stay on your first trip to Rio. He provides the opportunity to meet girls pretty much all day at reasonable prices. Its pretty much one fuck fest all/every day. Also, if you are looking to hook up with some other monger that happens to be in town that week, his place is a good place to do so.

I was initially reluctant about my trip to Rio and probably somewhat over paranoid. I read mixed reports of a very dangerous city, with everybody out to hustle you. Well, that might be true but if you use common sense you will not have any difficulties. Not once did I feel in danger. Pretty much avoid walking alone at night, don't wear jewelry, and take taxi's in the late evening and you should not have any problems.

For those budget oriented travelers, is your safety worth an average R$6 ($2.00USD)??? Put aside $10.00 a day for taxi's and you will be in good shape. Just make sure they put on the meter and heed the advise to avoid the taxi's at 'Help'. One late evening coming out of 'Help', Wicked Willy and I jumped into a taxi parked one street over. We told the guy where we needed to go (just a few blocks over) and did not put on the meter. Instead he told us it would be R$15... we both told him that he was crazy and got out of the taxi. We grabbed a taxi crusing by and the same trip was R$5.

Having visited various parts of Latin America - Mexico, Costa Rica, Columbia, etc - Rio really was not that much different from a safety perspective.

I was surprised, however, how different Spanish is from Portuguese. If you speak Spanish it is possible to communicate as the Brazilians understand about 50% of what you say, but the problem is the other way around. They understood me (at least part of it), but I certainly had difficulties understanding what they said to me. But don't let that be a worry - the language of money overcomes all obstacles!!

My biggest surprise was how excellent the food was. Being a very picky eater I was worried about the menus, but the foot was excellent everywhere. I highly recommend the Kilogramas (sp?), which is basically a buffet where you pay according to the weight of your plate. If you are looking for an economical way to eat this is the way to go. They are pretty much located everywhere and have an excellent selection of very good food with lots of meat! On this trip we usually ate one huge lunch, which covered all day. In the evening we often stopped at the corner fruit stands for a quick bite to eat and a juice. On several occassions we also ate at some of the places on the beach and each time were surprised at the portion size - HUGE! The latter, however, is more expensive. "Expensive" being relative, however - An expensive dinner being around R$30- R$40 ($13.00) compared to the Kilogramas (sp?) averging around R$18 for a HUGE plate (I can put down some food!!).

So for sure eating out will not break the bank!!

Regarding the transportation to and from the airport. I highly recommend contacting Sandman and asking for the phone number of his taxi driver. He is an extremely nice guy and will get you back forth safely and cheaply! The way I see it, its one less thing to worry about. Sandman also has some sightseeing contacts that should be considered.

The action with the girls was great. For the most part (yes, there are exceptions, of course) the girls are very affectionate. I highly recommend spending as much time as possible with them prior to going to the room. If they rush you, take a pass. Without exception the best experiences were with girls that liked to hang-out prior to the sessions, making out, etc... I personally enjoy the time hanging with them almost as much as the actual deed. Some of the girls are very cool and playful.

We also visited 'Help' and were very successful in our selection process. Ended up spending a couple of days with a perfect '10' - a German & Indian mix of all things. A tall, slender, long black haired beauty with an incredible complexion... We danced for over 3 hours, literally non-stop with only a few drink stops in between. The first night we were at my place and the second night at hers. She also introduced her friend to Wicked Willy. All four of us went to dinner, hung-out, and even watched a movie (they are in English, with Portuguse sub-titles). Not matter how good the time together, however, don't forget this is all business. Don't be stupid and get fooled into believing it is anything more - otherwise you deserve what is coming your way which is one big heartbreak!!! Their performances are worth a nomination at the academy awards. After a couple of nights together it was time to find my next love and next .....

A couple of other notes about 'Help' - Its actually a pretty good place to use USD$$$'s. Their exchange rate at the time of my visit was $2.90 which is a good as any travel agency. They will, however, only exchange a limited amount of money to pay for drinks. Tried to exchange $100 USD and they looked at me like I was from Mars. Settled on $40, which was more then enough to pay for drinks for the entire night.

Also, take some time to dance with the girls. Its a lot of fun and a chance to dance with hot girls without the worry of rejection. You will find a lot of girls dancing alone or with each other. Just smile and approach them. Even if you are self-conscious - get over it - and get out there. Of course also expect to be approached with a monetary proposition at a later time :-) Just nicely decline....sometimes they will continue to dance or move on. If they move on, do the same! Many fish in the sea. What I found interesting is that 'Help' is actually listed as a disco in some travel guides I read and as a place to meet people - that is true, however, do not expect to meet a regular non working girl there. I don't think they would be caught dead in there. At least that was my impression.

As a side note, to get the best exchange rates for large amounts of $$'s, go to the travel agencies. The airport and hotels tend to be more expensive.

The termas were great, with Llumos and Centaurus being my favorite. The girls are relaxed and spend a lot of time with you prior to the session. Centaurus is the most expensive - you pay around R$300 upfront which includes one girl. Each subsequent session is R$200 more. BUT, without saying the room was filled full of the best looking girls I have seen anywhere. The one I ended up going with to the room was incredible - tall, light skinned, incredible hot girl with a very nice and playful attitude. If you are on a budget, this is probably not the best place but should be visited at least once. The facilities are VERY nice. You will get more bang for the buck (so to speak) elsewhere, but quality wise - mama mia!

Llumos was excellent too. The place is much smaller, but quite a few nice girls in there as well. I spent time with several hotties - again, all with great attitudes and personalities.

Oh, one last thing about buying drinks for girls. At most places, including 'Help', the prices are extremely reasonable. At 'Help' the beer was R$2.50 (.86 cents)with most mixed drinks going up to R$4 (R$1.38). I think there are few that might be more, but the moral of this story? Of course always do your research at your particular joint (for example Barbarellas (sp?), which is expensive) prior to buying a bunch of drinks, but I was always pleasantly surprised. It didn't take long to get rid of the 'they will soak me with the drinks' attitude - as you know strip clubs & even regular nightclubs in the US get quite expensive. So be merry, get the girls drunk, and just enjoy!

Now for the worst part about going to Rio - that is coming back home. Its been hard to adjust back and I am already making arrangements for my next trip! I caught the Rio bug and a cure is not readily available. Fuck - driving down my suburb neighboorhood just does not seem the same anymore!

Peace brothers....

Thank you. Please, if you can, what did you budget for and how many days? Also, a breakdown of total expenses would be helpful.

Loving Marvin,

I am planning a trip to Rio this Nov. My flight is $700us and I am planning on spending about $2500-$3000 for the two weeks. Is this more than enough? Please give me some feedback?

Id say its just about right

By Lovingmarvin on Saturday, October 02, 2004 - 07:23 pm:  Edit

I agree.... that is enough for a real good time.

I personally don't like to outline all of my expenses, but as a general guideline budget upwards to R$500 (Aprx $172)for each visit to the termas if you want multiple sessions and drinks. This can make for a complete late afternoon & evening. Obviously if you go to termas each day, this will start to add up.

Girls from 'Help' range from R$200 - R$300 ($70 - $100), but usually are all nighters - make sure to negotiate this, however, if it is important to you. The later in the night, the cheaper and more likely the girl will stay with you. The lookers almost always start of at R$300 but can be talked down. Also remember that 'Help' does not open until midnight, but there are many girls hanging out front within about an hour of opening. Just make eye contact and smile - that should be enough to initiate contact.

Food - Depending on how often and of course where you eat, you can probably average around R$60 a day eating like a king. If you want to always eat at the beach front restaurants, then double that number.

Taxi to/from airport R$80 ($27 - both ways)

Daily taxi's - average R$30 going back and forth between termas, restaurants, lodging ,etc...

For morning and early morning sessions, contact Brazil Specialist and he can usually work something out for around R$150 ($52). Escort Agencies are another option.

Ultimately how much you will spend will greatly depend on how horny of a bastard you are....

great report
how do i contact brazil specialist and where would you recommend staying?
any tips on airline to brazil

By Lovingmarvin on Sunday, October 03, 2004 - 06:35 am:  Edit

The best airline to take will depend on where you live. I took Varig. Check out Orbitz.com for the best rates from where you live. Usually speciality travel agencies in your area might also have cheap bulk tickets.

Brazil Specialist can give you recommendations on where to stay - possibly even with him. Sandman can hook you up with transportation, sightseeing, parties, etc. The best way to contact them is to send them a message through this message board. One way to do so is accessing their trip reports (on the menu to the left) & selecting their name as the reporter. This brings up their profile, as well as an option on the bottom to send a personal message. Search for profiles for both "Brazil Specialis" (I think the 'T' is left off) and "Sandman".

Glad you had a good time and hope to see you back soon.

Just for the record, I am not a guide and do not perform guide services. I recommend Don for that.

I am not in the tour business (and there are many to choose from)but do help guys that want to go places the normal tour's don't go to, guys that do not want to go in groups and have an English speaking assistant that can go with them to help translate etc. One guy wanted to go to various music stores that sold both music and instruments and then go to different clubs offering different Br styles of music. Try to find that one on a prearranged guided tour?

I do like hosting Festas and like to think I have it somewhat down to a science.

Thanks for the interesting report. I'm headed back for my 4th visit this year, and not that I reallt need any help whetting my appetite...but I'm ready to roll.

The fiesta was most defintely something to remember and I highly recommend them.

I should also clarify the same for Brazil Specialist. His services are more language and recommendation related. Since the language is an issue for most of us, he can faciliate the conversation. Obviously with him living there he knows the hotels & different services available, but he himself does not faciliate them.

Your report is right on. The only addition I will make because of my experience is that you can easily meet non-pro's in the better hotel pools, ie. Le Meridien, Copa Palace, Cesar Park in Ipanema. Also, many garota's are approachable at the malls, ie. Rio Sul. Great report.

Hi Lovingmarvin
Ever been to Recife in Brazil? I'm going over (I say over - I live in Jersey, Channel Islands) next week - 10 days in Recife, 3 in Sao Paulo for the Grand Prix & 3 in Rio before returning home. Your reports for Rio are excellent and all duly noted - thanks. We were in Brazil two years ago but only went to Recife & Sao Paulo - both excellent but could do with more info. Cheers

There's good Recife info here, in posts and reports.

By Lovingmarvin on Friday, October 08, 2004 - 05:49 am:  Edit

Never visited Recife. This was actually my first visit to Brazil. By the way one of the guys I met on this trip stayed at a Rio hotel that I think is called Princess Copacaban (www.promenade.com.br). I checked out his room and it was quite nice. He paid around $70-$80 a night. The room is for a suite, with living room & kitchen. According to him they were very accomodating with no restrictions on visitors (aside from having to sign them in - which is a good thing from a safety perspective, not bad).

By Yodcha on Saturday, October 09, 2004 - 03:41 am:  Edit

I was in the Princess Copacabana-very girl friendly-they do check the girls ID and have them sign in giving their address etc and this seemed like a good idea to me-in theory you cant have two girls in your room at once but one reception guy said as long as he was on duty it would be no problem- a few real to the desk staff is a good idea-if you want when a girl shows up to see you the door man will even bring her up to you-the rooms ok-kind of like the Gran Presidentin Bangkok

Lovingmarvin,

Now back home and my first chance to read your report. It sure was great fun sharing my trip with you and sure made things even better than they would have been otherwise, thanks my friend.

I will try to fill in some of the gaps in my report and hope to get a few photos posted too and where applicable will reference them to your report.

I can reassure you guys that LM perfect 10 was a stunner, I thought I may have lost a running buddy as LM seemed a bit smitten at first, but reality soon struck and LM was soon pulling more really nice girls at an ever increasing rate.

I hope we get to run together again soon, next time perhaps slowing down a little and enjoying some of the other delights Rio has to offer.

I am headed back to Rio in early February (8 Feb through 10 Feb) and will stay in the Copa area (JW Marriott). As it is business and I am traveling with colleagues, I don't have much of a choice in hotels.

I want to hit Centaurus. What other termas are recommended? Should I hit Help as well?

Thanks,

LTT

By Catocony on Sunday, January 21, 2007 - 05:28 pm:  Edit

LTT,

Read the threads on termas and you will see that going to Centaurus is generally not recommended since it's a tourist clip joint.
