Bohol Island is one of the most beautiful islands in the PI and probably the nicest people in the PI(well maybe second to Bacolod). If you are tired of the scamming Pampanga people you see in the PI and Manila...then head to Bohol and get a fresh perspective of how warm and nice Filipino people really are.
Two ways to get there. You can fly to Tagbilaran(capital) from Manila with PI Airlines and I believe also Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific. You can also take a speedboat ferry from Cebu City. Both take approximately one hour. I prefer to start the trip in Cebu because it is so central and you can take a ferry or short flight anywhere in the Visayas or Mindinao.
The main tourist attractions in Bohol are: The Cholocolate Hills, the Tertier monkeys, the river cruises, Panglao Island/Alona Beach and the old churches. They are called chocolate hills because the hills turn a chocolate color when the PI is experiencing a drought and look like hershey kisses(I guess). The tertier are the smallest primates in the world and originate from this region(although you will see them in Thailand). Panglao Island has some beautiful resorts and I recommend staying there if you want to spend a legthy trip as it is 15 minutes from Tagbilaran City.
Your best bet is to take a taxi for the day and they will give you a guided tour of the sights or you can rent one by the hour. (You can rent a driver for about 1,300 to 2,000 pisos for the day.
Here are some pics:
