There are many fine hotels in Montreal, just like any major city in the states. I've yet be at one that wasn't guest friendly.

I've stayed at three different hotels on my trips to Montreal. All hotels are downtown and have lobby layouts such that guests can walk through and go up no problem. All prices below in Canadian.

Loews Hotel Vogue. One of the top hotels in the city, and my favorite. Rooms $150-200 and up. Upscale rooms, furnishings and jacuzzi. Note: elevator now has a card system - you need to swipe your room card to go up. This poses a problem for guests coming to your room. The discrete way around this is to tell your friend to take the circular staircase from the lobby up to the second floor and meet you there. There are some chairs near the elevator on the second floor and there is usually nobody there... this method works well and in fact was suggested to me by one of the hotel staff. Excellent location.

Omni Hotel. Tall building on Sherbrooke. Good rooms, $100-$150 and up. Good location.

Clarion Hotel on de Maissoneuve. Good rooms, $100-$150 and up. Rooms have sunken living room and personal kitchen with fridge and stove... very nice. But not the upscale furnishings like the Vogue. On the edge of the downtown area - not as close to the downtown strip clubs as the other two hotels.
