Not speaking any Portuguese and not knowing my way around town I bypassed on Prives my last trip. The guide is so frickin easy to read and use. Shit, I was at the prive within minutes of leaving MASP and it was a walk in a great area of town. On a side note, I have to say I really like Sao Paulo on Sunday mornings. The Avelina Paulista side streets are totally dead. I was so weird walking these streets in the middle of one of the worlds largest cities and no one is around.

You may want to check out Alameda Franca 240 or 175, probably in that order. They are in the same general area as Alameda Jau, 480. Also note that Franca 240 recently re-opened, and therefore was not in the guide I wrote earlier, although I recently added a short report that can be found in Treeview, Brazil, Sao Paulo, Prives. Alameda 240 is about 1/2 a block from Franca 175, so you can easily go from one to the other if there is nothing worth your while at the 1st place visited.

Thanks for the info LA. I took your advice. I woke up this morning and headed down Alameda Franco. This proved to be my last chance to monger as I need to get some souveniers and churrascarria before heading home tonighht.

First stop was Alameda 240. Pretty nice set up there. A cute girl greeted me but unfortunately only two girls were working. I asked the greeter if she was availible and she said no. Guys, the two girls working were not of very high standards IMHO. Typically I would have "settled" for one of the girls but thanks to LA's info above I knew I had a second option just down the street.

Hey guys.. wanted to add one last thing.

Many people, including myself, have asked countless questions regarding hotels. Last time I was in town I stayed at the Renaissance. This time I stayed at the Mercure Jardins. First off, the Renaissance is in a class of its own. I stayed at the Mercure based on a reccommendation from a friend and the fact that it is two blocks from the Renaissance.

Renaissance is a much nicer hotel, better service, better ammenities, better bar. All of that aside, I actually liked the location of the Mercure better. I really got to know the Jardins neighberhood better and walked around a hell of a lot more staying at this location. When I stayed at the Renaissance I always gravitated towards Avenida Paulista and completely missed checking out Jardins entirely! I forgot the exact rate of Mercure but I recall its in the 50-70 US range. Both hotels, like practically every hotel in SP are guest friendly. At the Renaissance you have to go down stairs to pick up your date. At the Mercure, they just send her up. Thats all for now.

Last time I went to Alameda Franca 175 and 240, 175 only had 3 garotas and 240 had six (opposite to Suferr3's experience). It goes to show these things depend on what time and day you go, and the luck of the draw.

I'm a bit surprised that a looker answered the door at 240 and said she was not available. With the exception of a middle-aged woman who sometimes answers the door, my experience is all the girls are available (I am combining my experience at 240 with that of the older version of 175, since the operation from 175 recently moved to 240, and 175 is now under new management). Is it possible there was a mis-communication?

As to the Mercure Jardins, that is now my main base of operation when I'm in SP, after having experienced perhaps 10 other Sao Paulo hotels. Not as nice as the Renaissance, but relatively comfortable, free internet, and the rates at the Renaissance are around 4 times higher. If you walk downhill from the Mercure a couple of blocks, and make a right off of Rua Augusta, you are in a very nice area with some good restaurants and atmosphere. Reminds me a bit of some of the better semi-residential areas in Manhattan.

By the way Surferr3, you may want to consider posting some of your experiences under the relevant categories in Treeview. I have started doing this because it makes it easier for people to find specific information, such as information on specific prives, hotels, etc. Keep up the good "work."
