Every get a song stuck in your head? Somewhere in Italy, in a shop or market, I overheard the GoGo’s My Lips Are Sealed, and it stuck like flu for days, through hailstorm and power outage and post-flu delirium. I finally willed it away by concentrating on another bit of muzak (strange how the Italian markets that used to blast EuroTechnoDisco now play American pop): the theme from the NBC series Las Vegas, which better suited my Frankfurt intentions, crying out as it did for “a little less conversation, a little more action.”
When I arrived in Frankfurt airport, I’d been Internet-deprived for 8 days, and gratefully availed myself of a Samsung-provided free station in Terminal 1–B. Thanks to kind last-minute advice from FKKmeister Peter29, I tapped www.hrs.de to locate Hotel Lindenhof, a small (36 rooms) family-owned (5 generations) hotel in Friedrichsdorf, outside of Bad Homburg. Since Oase and World are some distance from Frankfurt, I saw no reason to stay in the city.
d’Artagnan’s recent Trip Report documented his frustration with auto navigation systems, so I passed on the computer, fetched a brand-new (236 km on the odometer) black BMW from sixt and set out for the autobahn. Though I too was confused by the lack of compass directions, sun position (an LA crutch) helped me get my bearings: from the airport, take A3 toward Frankfurt (east), then exit A5 toward Kassel (north).
Friedrichsdorf is a half hour away, an exit or so past the Bad Homburg turnoff. The room at Lindenhof was small, the bed smaller, but it was clean, and I had no intention of wasting much time there anyway. On the second day, while asking directions, I mentioned a few small complaints to the owner and he promptly offered to move me to an upgraded suite at no additional charge (€55/night, tax included.) The Lindenhof enjoys a quiet, traffic-free small town atmosphere, great staff and abundant free breakfast. More significantly, it is only minutes from Oase - highly recommended.
I cleaned up, set out for FKK Oase, and soon learned first-hand that, as I see d’Artagnan points out in a thread I missed, Sabio/Dcool1’s Driving Directions to FKK Clubs could use a bit more detail. For turn-by-turn directions with mileage (actually meterage) from Frankfurt Airport via Bad Homburg, Hotel Lindenhof and Friedrichsdorf, see 10 - On The Road Again.
And remember: these clubs are no secret to the locals - if you get lost or turned around, just stop at a market or gas station and ask.
