On Sunday I retraced the road to Oase in order to inscribe directions for you lot; drove to the airport to get an early seat assignment, and dined on pad thai in Bad Homburg to complete the psychic connection. Anything after Nadja would have been anticlimactic.
Early Monday morning I borrowed an implement from the Lindenhof kitchen to scrape the snow off my windshield and left for the airport before dawn, uncertain about traffic and weather. Arriving without incident, I returned the poxy cellphone (see below) and the Beamer, put my mental iPod on shuffle, and flew to the land of the free and the home of the brave. I’ve just been sittin’ on the dock of a bay, watching the tide roll away, but on Feb 14 I’m off to Cebu/AC/Taichung - any suggestions for the soundtrack?

Big Warning!
I learned the hard way of a ripoff scam buried in the rentacell.com agreement. They can charge your card a “pre-auth” deposit of €800 (currently over $1,000) and hold onto it for up to 15 days after sending you a printed bill – which they don’t do for 30 to 45 days!
My 3 day rental should have cost about €35 ($50), but my card was charged €836 ($1,076.) The rentacell accounting department at first apologized that the €800 “pre-auth” should have dropped off their system when I returned the phone, and promised that I would see a credit “imminently.” When I pointed out that they had posted the charge a full week after I had returned the phone, they frostily referred me to Section 4.11 of the contract, in tiny print on the back, which says they can hold the float for what adds up to about two months.
In contrast, the phones I rented in the States from Cellhire for use in Italy were properly billed and charged with no deposit less than 48 hours after return.
Unless you really want to lend them a grand interest-free for two months, avoid Rentacell – rent before you go from someone you know.

These are some of the best written posts I have ever read on this or any other site.
Regarding the cell phone thing. If you are travelling a lot buy a GSM phone in any country, and just buy prepaid SIM cards, or even see if you can have SIM cards from your local country. Local calls are usually charged at similar rates to local rates.
