INTRODUCTION

I have made two trips to the city of Lima in Peru in as many years. I have hobbied in various locales across Central and South America and the Carribean, including Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Panama. I've appreciated and enjoyed all of these locations, but if I had to choose just one to return to, it would have to be Peru.

For supply preparation the only significant items I can think of that might not be in a general travel kit are the following:
* condoms (freelancers may not always have them)
* at least one power converter (220 in Peru)
* adaptor plugs (two pronged-round, bring the entire set just in case)

I was going to list anti-diarrea or stomach medication in the above list after getting sick the last day on both trips, but then realized I do not know the exact nature of my sickness either time. I have not gotten sick like this in any of the other countries I've visited. My best guess is the tap water, which IS NOT safe for drinking. Keep your mouth shut title during showers and use bottled water to brush your teeth.

The local currency is the Peru Nuevo Sol (PEN). As of today the current exchange rate is approximately 3.26 PEN to 1 US dollar (USD).

At the very least your first night of lodging should be arranged in advance. Arranging your transporation from airport to hotel will likely be more expensive, but more secure. Personally I recommend doing so and will illustrate a good example of why in the next section.

The P4P scene in Lima is expansive with a wide range in both price and quality. The majority of the working ladies will be native to Peru, but you will occasionally find visitors from neighboring countries on the menu. Prices for a good time can range from $7 USD to $200 USD with quality of the lady and the establishment across the board.

NOTE: Street walkers will not be covered in this guide.

Great start Vladimir, and thanks for some very useful info. I'm curious as to why streetwalkers will not be included. Anyway, you've certainly piqued my interest about Peru.

Hi Vladamir. RT here.

Once again, we are following in each other's footsteps. Last time, we were on each other's heels in Santiago. I will be making my 2nd Lima trip next month. You are correct, Lima is a great place to visit. I found the people there to be the nicest of all the places I have visited.

This report is awesome. I will be adding comments/questions here and there. Thanks.

Merlin,

From the research I did and what I saw, the street walkers were primarily located in an unsafe part of town. I spent my share in some seedy areas, but for the most part stayed indoors.

From drivebys, I was not impressed with the quality either. There may have been some gems, but IMHO Cucardas and Trocadero are better alternatives for budget options.

Also, like many other destinations, there seemed to be a significant mix of fake ladies in the mix. The ones I saw weren't difficult to tell.

Then there's the increased risk of theft. Theft is more likely from steet walkers and freelancers as they are more apt to disappear.

The freelancers and semi-pros in Pizza Alley or that supposedly can be picked up walking around town are probably better, but I did not focus much attention on them either.

In leaving out street walkers, I was mainly referring to the ladies that stand in specific parts of town and are very obviously working as street prostitutes.

In addition to the great overall friendliness and personalities of the people, I also have found Lima to be one of the most comfortable places to be. Unlike most places, I do not feel like a tourist while in Lima. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but it makes Peru I country I could envision living in later on in life.

I'm looking forward to your updates RTGooch, the specifics in your posts have been very helpful in my preparations for past trips and it's always nice to read what's new.
